the good old days~ not that i participated but i saw i'm so sorry you had to witness the nightmare days of death threats, cruel crosstagging, and the rise of two of the worst memes in existence. i don't know how you made it through that without unfollowing me lmao eh i don't really read text posts that often. i mostly just look at pictures. so i probably never read any of it

while I agree the atla and lok fandoms are bad, I wouldn't quite rank them among the undertale, steven universe or mlp fandoms when it comes to awfulness having seen firsthand how two users untagged posts were turned into memes while they received death threats for daring to express their opinions? while other users were also receiving death threats sans being turned into memes? it's pretty well up there in terms of toxicity and general nastiness, and because of the two memes, people just continue, thinking they're justified because other people made it look funny. when it's not. not to mention one of the popular ships had to make a 2.0 tag back in book 1 because people were so abrasive and cruel in the regular tag. it only got worse with time. oh......I didn't know. I didn't experience it all first hand. I experienced MLP first hand, and as someone who was the show's target audience to begin with, which is why I hold a particular resentment for [bad] bronies. I still consider mlp, undertale, steven universe, etc worse, but if you consider atla worse, thats totally fine: its your opinion
and what was the ship?

i've heard about the stuff in the mlp and su fandoms, so i can see where you're coming from. and it was makorra. people hated makorra so badly they actively flooded the tags with hate (when it's SUPPOSED to be etiquette that you do not whatsoever tag your hate), not to mention sent horrible messages to people posting positive material in the tags. and this was years before korrasami even became canon. when that happened? oh man, you didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of going into the tag and finding anything other than absolutely caustic hate + a million posts putting ks on some pedestal while ripping mk apart using out of context screenshots that didn't at all match up with what canonically happened. it spiraled out of control even faster when fans began to substitute headcanon for fact (like "oh no asami had such a hard childhood without her mom i bet she was so lonely and had only her tutors the poor thing" but when mako's parents are literally murdered in front of him at the age of eight, he's just an abusive jerk??? the mako hate posts were such stretches. at the time i was upset at the lengths people went to attack him, and by extension anyone who appreciated his character, but now it's funny looking at the sad reaches that had to be made and how flimsy they ultimately were anyway. well, it's funny when you ignore the rest of it being ugly) honestly I don't like makorra or mako In general but I agree some of the hate for him gets out of line?? and korrasami wasn't really developed a ton anyway.
tbh ive never liked the way canon romantic pairings were handled in atla OR lok. kataang was cute but it wasn't incredibly interesting [for the record I don't like zutara either]. sokka and suki would have been great if suki had a personality. maiko was probably my favourite, and even then I don't like it that much bc it was only a thing in season 3.

i really liked mako because i can really understand being the older sibling and having to look out for your younger siblings, not to mention he came a long way from only looking at himself and his brother to involving himself in events that affected the world. not to mention he became a cop. when he lost his parents, republic city did nothing for him and ultimately, he was ready to give everything back. i just really appreciate it. but yeah, the fandom gets ugly ugly ugly out of line trying to claim he's some kind of abuser (social blunders and awkward situations are not the same, but the fandom hasn't grasped that). and yeah, ks was wildly underdeveloped. i wanted to ship it. i even used to ship it. but when it's underwhelming in canon and the fandom pretends it's god's gift? yeah, no love left for that.
and i feel that. i didn't ship anything hardcore in atla. i like everyone pretty much, but there weren't any ships that stood out to me as "whoa i love this one." i will admit, though, that the "what could have beens" for zutura that i've seen are pretty convincing. had some changes been made, i think they could have had a very interesting dynamic, both in terms of general relations and looking at it thematically.
i'm a sucker for ships that not only interact well but have thematic significance, oops. it's a very handy factor in winning me over.

undertale
The fandom has too many OCS and I really don't think they count as Ocs if they are hybrids of undertake characters

right, if they hate each other the whole way through, that's different. i just like it when they start there and come to trust each other over the course of the plot. that's the good stuff. and yeah, kataang was very...eh. yeeaahh, I wouldn't put it on the level of, say, Reylo, but I'm still not huge a fan of it kataang was just kinda boring

you can't really judge a fandom based on the people in it who are really not great but a lot of the people in the undertale fandom have made it hard to enjoy the game tbh (but then again there are always the nice ones so)
...also just for the record the rurouni kenshin fandom is the best because almost nobody sins. okay bye

definitely the phandom. A lot of youtuber fandoms in general whenever i hear phandom i automatically think 'danny phantom' and im always confused cuz i thought the danny phantom fandom died like 10 yrs ago rip but i agree, most youtubers fanbases are really bad. especially smosh and pewdiepie's fans

That's OK; I can perfectly understand why you would think that. I will agree with you that the fanbase is generally absolutely terrible, and I don't get involved in it myself. I love Hetalia, but I understand why you hate it and its fandom, as it might offend some people, and there are just some fans that take things too far, or is just ignorant in history and do not understand how tragic war is. (I've even heard of ppl making fanarts that portray/symbolize Hiroshima/Nagasaki... ) Despite the fact that I would never do, or even think of, doing such things, I have been called a weeaboo just because I like Hetalia. (I don't even watch that much anime???) I like Hetalia because I'm genuinely interested in history, and is thinking of double majoring in it, but there are quite a few people that don't care about history & watch it just for the hot characters/. I also believe that Hetalia should never be substituted with a real textbook, since a lot of things are just blown out of proportion for the sake of being funny. (In other words: know your history before watching it; it will protect you from ignorance, and you might understand the basic context better) Honestly just steer clear of the stuff that bothers you. And I think as the size of the fandom increases, the greater its proportion of annoying fans will be. Just how life is. I like Hetalia too, and I don't like to mention it to people in real life because of everything you just said. I agree with pretty much everything you've written here.
