Cross Breeds and you
In the beginning, crossbreeding between the four races was expressly forbidden. The mixing of mortal and immortal blood was ghastly and considered blasphemous to their gods. There was no sin more vile, more worthy of scorn and disgust than that of crossbreeding. But centuries passed and many of the old ways fell into obscurity, crossbreeding among them. While the sacred bonds of marriage were still forbidden between mortal and immortal races, half-bloods and mixed-bloods sprung up at an uncontrollable rate. It wasn't until the union of Iris and Algernon Goss that the stigma surrounding mixed-bloods was softened into something less hated. And now, the union of Thelma Goss and Tamlin Wolfsong will hopefully be enough to wash clean the remnants of revile surrounding mortal and immortal children. However, just because mixed-bloods are no longer looked up with the same intense disdain does not mean they are a breed without flaws. While many mixed-bloods are endowed with the hybrid vigor (or the best qualities of their mismatched parents), some are not so lucky.
Notes:
- any cross between a mortal and immortal will always result in immortal offspring, no matter how diluted the immortal blood.
- any cross between a fae will always result in a magic-possessing child, blood dilution may result in these powers being weakened however.
- there was actually a pretty good reason people didn't want the races crossbreeding. some of the results were... less than less than desirable.
- common, if not barbaric, practice among immortals is to deliberately mate with a mortal. shorter pregnancies in mortals means more children faster (as opposed to the 3 year pregnancies immortals undergo. yes, you heard right. 3 years, there's a reason fae and vampire populations are so small). so mating with a mortal cuts that time down to nine months. the result? more immortal babies. this has become popular among immortals only in recent years though. the Mortal Court, thankfully, noticed this trend and hopes to put an end to it before the Immortal Court uses it to their advantage. hence the marriage between Thelma and Tamlin.
Witch/Human: the combination of the sunlight, moonlight, and fire. Half-witch half-human children have a 50/50 chance of inheriting the magic of their witch parent. Many of these children have gained a fair of amount of disdain from the full-blooded witch community and those born magicless have cruelly been dubbed stagnant. However, salt is still enough to render their magic useless.
pros: sometimes magic?
cons: still mortal
Witch/Fae: the combination of fire, ocean, and moonlight. From both parents, they inherit their magical abilities. Thanks to this, there are rare occasion when a witch/fae child acquires two powers (including glamour). The downside? The doubled magic abilities (no matter if the child is born with more than one power) means that they are violently allergic to salt. This means that exposure to salt (sometimes as bad as simply being near it) causes catastrophic seizures and sometimes results in comas. Despite the mix of immortal and mortal blood, witch/fae children will always be born immortal. Oftentimes, these children will be born with the pointed ears of their fae parent and occasionally the dark hair of the witch parent.
pros: double the magic!, immortality, glamour
cons: double the salt allergy!
Fae/Human: the combination of fire, ocean, moonlight, and sunlight. Whereas a witch/human hybrid has only a 50% chance of inheriting magical abilities from their witch parent, a fae/human hybrid has a 100% chance. Susceptibility to iron and salt is weakened, but only slightly. But there's only a 50% chance the child will have the pointed ears of the fae parent.
pros: magic! immortality!
cons: still weak to iron and salt
Witch/Fae/Human: the combination of fire, ocean, moonlight, and sunlight. Always born immortal, they possess many of the qualities of all three bloodlines. However, the detrimental aversions to salt found in strictly witch/fae children is substantially weakened by the addition of human blood. This means, contact with salt becomes tolerable, if not manageable. Unfortunately, this is because the added human blood has also weakened whatever magical abilities they may be born with. The chance of pointed ears in the child is still only 50%.
pros: no more salt allergies (but still affected by it), immortality
cons: slightly less magic (aka no glamour)
Vampire/Witch: the combination of sunlight, moonlight, fire, and ocean. While vampire/witch hybrids will always inherit the enhanced abilities of the vampire parent, there is only a 50% chance of them being born with the magical abilities of the witch parent. Sad, but true. On the bright side, while they are still weak to iron, it's to a lesser extent.
pros: immortal, sometimes magic
cons: still vulnerable to salt and iron
Vampire/Human: the combination of sunlight, fire, and ocean. A vampire/human hybrid has all the qualities and immortality of a vampire. Vampire/human hybrids aren't much fun. They're basically vampires that can't be burned by iron. Don't get any ideas, they can still be killed by it. Just not burned.
pros: immortal, less vulnerable to iron, enhanced senses, speed, ect.
cons: slight craving for blood, can still be killed by iron
Vampire/Human/Witch: this one's actually worse than the vampire/human hybrid. In terms of boring, at least. Take the vampire/human child, now add a witch into the mix. What you get is a vampire that is now vulnerable to both salt and iron (to a lesser extent than a pure witch or a pure vampire, though) with a less than 50% chance of being born with a magical ability. Viola! That's the witch/human/vampire hybrid!
pros: magic? maybe. immortal, enhanced senses, speed, ect.
cons: vulnerable to salt and iron
Vampire/Fae/Human: oh, this one's fun. Take a witch/human/vampire hybrid, now make it better by adding glamour and a 100% chance of magic! Oh, and did I mention they get to keep the weakened vulnerability to salt? Iron, to a lesser extent, but it's still there. Congrats to all vamp/fae/human hybrids! You are all nearly perfect, non-boring creations! Your parents should be proud!
pros: immortal, vampire strength and speed, heightened senses, magic
cons: salt still effects magic usage, iron is still deadly
Fae/Vampire: the combination of sunlight, moonlight, and ocean. So I think it's important to mention, but crossing a fae with literally any other species will always result in a magical child, their magic may be weaker depending on other ancestry and the amount of fae blood. Fae/vampire hybrids are no exception. Not nearly as powerful as fae/witch children, but they have magic nonetheless! From both parents, they inherit heightened senses, strength, speed, agility and so on, as well as the pointed ears of the fae and elongated fangs of the vampire. The downside? Holy sh*t are they unstable. It's a good thing they're half-fae or this child would starve. Earlier, I mentioned how violently allergic fae/witch hybrids are to salt. The same concept applies here, but with iron instead. Small amounts of iron will result in violent seizures or come, but larger amounts of iron are instant death, no stabbing required. Vampire/fae hybrids can't drink or even touch blood without risking their lives.
pros: immortal, ultimate predator
cons: no medium rare steaks
Fae/Vampire/Witch: the unholy trio. Any combination of these three should be kept inside forever. It doesn't matter if your mother was half-witch half-fae and your father was full vampire or whatever. This hybrid is an accident waiting to happen. They have three times the magic of any fae or witch or witch/fae child and it is POWERFUL. Take the magic of a regular fae and multiply it times 10 and that's what you get from this, the unholiest of children. And combine that unreasonable amount of power with all the enhanced abilities of a vampire. Were it not for their vulnerability, these children would be untouchable. Now top this insane amount of power with both the crippling allergies of witch/fae and fae/vampire hybrids. That's right, these children are born DEATHLY allergic to both SALT and IRON. My advice is never, ever, ever, EVER let a vampire/fae/witch child live to see the light of day. In the old days it was common practice to kill one these hybrids before it reached maturity (this was done only slightly for their own good, but mostly because that was common practice when it came to all hybrids).
pros: POWERHOUSE
cons: WALKING DEATH TRAP
advice: put down humanely. remember kids, if you're a witch/vampire hybrid being pressured into having a baby with a fae just say no. otherwise we'll be forced to euthanize the resulting offspring for its own good and yours as well.
Fae/Vampire/Witch/Human: the only thing that can even out the unholy trio? Add a human. Human blood (if it's in great enough quantities) should be enough to balance out the mayhem that it the unholy trio. The addition of human blood tampers down the violent allergic reactions, but not the insane amount of power. Thankfully, no such child exists yet or it would be disastrous.
pros: IMMORTAL POWERHOUSE
cons: none in recorded existence, still vulnerable to iron and salt, just not to the same degree
