(first of all, curse the character limit in the titles)
So, as the title says, this is (as far as I can tell) the first "roleplay a Clan into existence) thread on these forums. Awesome.
For the moment, this is pretty much gonna be a jump-in sort of roleplay. No form or anything. However, I do have some rules/guidelines I would like for you to read over before you join.
1. This is intended to be a reasonably literate roleplay, so please use your best grammar, and try to keep your posts at a reasonable length. I'm not looking for a novel, but every post should be something that is easy for another person to respond to. It should be more than "Fluffy ate a mouse" or "Fluffy said hi to Midnight" and should look better than "fluffy walked to the freshkill pile. hi he said to midnight"
2. This is a realistic roleplay- therefore, no powers, weird anatomic features, or unnatural colors. Obviously things like coat patterns and stuff don't have to always be 100% realistic, but they need to be believable (like, realistically a gray cat with black spots doesn't happen, but in the roleplay it's fine cuz it's not outlandish). Things that are not believable would be things like purple eyes, a perfect star marking on the forehead, or two tails.
3. Please be as realistic as you can with your character's behavior as well. Since this is intended to form a Clan, obviously the cats all have to end up together somehow, but please give your characters good reasons and motives for this. For example, if your cat is grouchy and asocial they're not going to immediately invite a stranger to stay in their den. If your character is shy and cowardly, they're not going to rush into battle to save someone else. I also don't want to see common "bring us together" tropes used more than once or twice- so I don't want, like, 6 abandoned kits wandering around and 4 cats getting attacked by foxes while 3 more drown. If you want to use a trope someone else is already using, try to work with them: make your abandoned kits littermates, or two cats fighting over prey that drew the attention of a fox. Whatever you can make work.
4. Keep the Clan (or whatever kind of group this becomes) formation realistic. Again: if three strangers get together in a den, they're not going to all of a sudden decide "hey let's form a Clan" after knowing each other for 5 hours, especially since most of our cats shouldn't even have any idea what a Clan is. Again: the cats need realistic motivations to come together and ultimately form this Clan. It may take a while before the Clan itself actually comes into being, and the first while will be a lot of cats wandering around not really doing much.
Past that, I would like give a general description of the area. The territory will be developed more in roleplay as cats explore, discovering landmarks and other things, but for now this is the general idea:
The area sits in the rolling foothills of a mountain valley. In the distance, real mountains can be seen, but here it's little more than gentle hills. A lake sits at the bottom of the east end of the valley, and a river flows from the northwest to meet it. Just north of the lake, and east of the river, there is a small twoleg town with a single large road passing through the hills from east to west, crossing the river with a large covered bridge. Most of the area is forested, but there are a few large, open meadows. A couple farms dot the valley as well, most of them surrounded by large cattle and horse fields. The seasons are mild, with warm summers and winters just cool enough to snow a few days out of the year. The area is North American, so animals a cat might encounter include things like opossums, raccoons, bears, or coyotes, as well as the usual foxes, badgers, and dogs.
I think that's pretty much everything. So, please follow the rules above, and have fun!
