Peter grinned, "As for technology, that's just here, I think. My own civilization is extremely advanced compared to this. Even more advanced than Earth, I presume. It's been... a tough adjustment." He took the book, "As for mythical creatures..." He chuckled, "Well, I guess you'll just have to see and find out for yourself." He lay the book on the table and thumbed through it, looking specifically for the text about werewolves. As soon as he spotted a diagram of such a creature, he eagerly began reading it. He had a growing suspicion, but he wasn't going to say anything about it until he knew for certain.

Alfonse eyed the book cautiously. "Is there any particular reason why you seem to possess such an interest in these creatures?"

Peter smirked, "There is. But I can't tell you what it is. It's just a theory. I don't have any real proof yet." He read through the parts about how to identify the creature, but it said nothing about identifying them in their human form. He frowned, until he came across the part mentioning the full moon, "Hmm... I know manticores are tied to the moon phase, but I didn't know anything else was. Interesting." He suddenly slammed the book shut, but not without marking the page first, "I think I'll just hold onto this for a while, until I'm done reading it." He lay the book down on a small table and suddenly bounced off towards the door, "I'm going to go check on something. You're welcome to tag along, if you want." He eagerly slipped out the door without waiting for a response.

Alfonse tilted his head at the younger boy. Although energetic, his intelligence was somewhat surprising. The scientist shuddered to think of some of the boys his parents had introduced him to. Upon Peter's departion, Alfonse stood to his feet, and followed the boy outside of the room.

Peter's intelligence had more to do with his high level of education, more than it did anything else. His civilization's equivalent to 5th grade was closer to Earth's college level. Peter noticed Alfonse following, and slowed his pace somewhat. Instead of going down the stairs, he turned and headed to the other set of stairs. Once he reached the top, he traveled a short ways down the corridor, stopping briefly to introduce the clothes room. Then he continued on to the final set of stairs leading up to the roof. He'd been at the castle long enough to explore most of it, save only for a few locked rooms. (*wink*) Once he reached the rooftop, he stopped and waited for Alfonse to catch up. Above in the night sky loomed a large full moon, much bigger than it normally appeared on Earth.

Alfonse followed up the stairs, and as he emerged on the rooftop, he gave a thoughtful blink. "What is your reasoning for travelling here?" He questioned Peter casually. "The rooftop seems quite bare..."

It took all of three seconds for Peter to spot the moon, and he grinned, "That's the reason." He pointed to the large full moon that hung in the sky.
Below the castle and just out of view of the rooftop, a cloaked figure stealthily slipped out of the castle.

Just as the figure was slipping out of the castle, Ferra was slipping inside, and happened to meet the figure head on. Startled, and somewhat anxious, she immediately apologized. "I'm very sorry." Unsure of what to say next, she glanced inside the castle to search for the wolf she'd seen earlier.
Alfonse was beginning to place the puzzle pieces together. "Do you have a suspicion that someone here could perhaps be a...?" He trailed off, as if finishing his own sentence would solidify in his mind the fact that werewolves exist in this world.

The person recoiled away from the girl in surprise, ducked their head further under the hood and hurried on without a word.
Peter's only confirming answer was a wink. He walked over to the edge of the roof, knealt down and fished something out of his bag. It resembled a small set of bronze colored binoculars, not unlike you might see in a Steampunk cosplay getup. He held the gadget up to his eyes, adjusted the settings and looked around the clearing. Coincidentally, the cloaked person broke away from the shadow of the castle and hurried towards the woods. Peter lowered the binoculars when he realized he had no trouble seeing them - the full moon gave plenty of light - and motioned for Alfonse to hurry over and take a look.

Alfonse quickly hurried over without a word, and took the binoculars from Peter. Momentarily, he was caught up in analyzing the binoculars themselves, but his curiosity as to what Peter wanted him to see outweighed his curiosity over the strange gadget, and he peered through them. Upon catching the sight of the figure, he drew away, and exchanged a puzzled glance with Peter. "I presume you believe that the individual below is Miss Aurora."
"Hey! Wait!" Ferra called, lifting her hand in a vain attempt to call the figure back. When she realized that the stranger wouldn't listen, she made no effort to pursue him/her. Instead, she hesitantly poked her head inside the castle. "So many strange auras..."

Before Peter could respond, the person below turned and glanced back at Ferra. The angle was just right from the roof to identify the figure as, indeed, Aurora. She looked puzzled upon seeing Ferra, but quickly shook it off and continued on into the pitch black of the surrounding forest. Peter smiled and tapped his chin, "Now, why in the world would she be headed into the woods in the middle of the night?"
Catori met Ferra at the castle door and wagged her tail again at the familiar/unfamiliar girl.

Many miles south of the castle and outside of its hearing range, a predator glared up at the large glowing object in the sky. It's angry, feline cry rose and fell like a siren, placing every nearby animal into a state of terror induced stark silence. Even the sound of insects failed, as though evil itself lurked in the damp, cold night air. A pair of brightly illuminated eyes burned through the darkness, the hungry gaze brimming with madness and murder and mayhem.

Alfonse scratched his head, contemplating first the logical possibilities of Aurora's departure on such an opportune night. Maybe she simply enjoyed the forest and its beauty during the night. Or maybe it had something to do with her culture. The more he pondered, the less he believed any of those theories. First, Aurora had acted strangely at the mention of werewolves. Then, she had taken the opportunity to leave the castle at night, and on a full moon at that. The scientist's suspicions were beginning to grow, and greatly.
Ferra knelt down in front of the animal, and gave a smile. "Hi, girl." She held her hand out for Catori to sniff, but, when she felt no negative energy radiating off the wolf, she began to gently stroke the top of the animal's head. She sensed that the wolf enjoyed having hear ear scratched, and so she began to do so hoping to further gain her trust. "Do you live here?"
(To clarify, Ferra can't exaxtly read minds, but she can sense the energy, or "aura", if you will, radiating off people, animals, and even plants, and acts accordingly.

(Don't you just hate it when your bed blows up?)
Peter watched the edge of the forest until he was sure she was gone, then, "I've got an idea. Follow me!" He whispered sharply before racing back to the stairs.
Catori sat down and sniffed the outstretched hand. Upon having her ear scratched, the wolf smiled happily at Ferra and offered her paw. This was the first person she'd ever greeted this way aside from Aurora. (That's cool :3)

Alfonse quickly turned to follow the boy, without saying a word. His curiosity had his mind racing, and as a result, he hadn't thought of speaking to the boy to ask what his idea may be.
Ferra let out a small giggle, and took the wolf's paw in her hand. "You're awfully friendly, aren't you? What is this place, anyway? Doesn't look like a village to me."

Peter led the way down the stairs, turned right and continued leading the way down a darkened hallway until they reached a door, "I think this is it." Peter mumbled and tried the knob, then frowned, "Locked. But of course it is." He grumbled, "No big deal. I've got this." He turned to the nearby window, pulled himself onto the narrow ledge and flung himself through. About a minute later, the door clicked and opened revealing Peter, who grinned like the Cheshire cat.
The wolf narrowed her eyes as though thinking hard about something. In truth, she was searching for the right word. Even though the castle's magic granted animals speech, Catori seldom spoke. When she did, her words were few and usually only reserved for Aurora. Finally, the wolf met Ferra's eyes and uttered one word as an answer, "Castle." Her voice resembled that of a kid.

Alfonse frowned. "Invasion of privacy... is impolite, from what I've gathered." He entered the room anyway, though, and began to analyze his surroundings.
Ferra blinked, somewhat surprised. She was aware that the world of Lamura possessed a great deal of various magical qualities, but never had she heard an animal speak. "May I come inside?"

Peter had no idea what 'manners' are. continued grinning and handed him one of the two lanterns in the room. The room was very neat at first glance, with no signs of debris or clutter anywhere. Aurora's necklace rested on top of the dresser. Upon closer examination, Peter came across a shattered mirror, "Whoa, what happened here..." He mumbled to no one in particular. As he turned, he caught sight of the other side of the door. He stopped and stared at it with wide eyes, "Well, I think this maybe clinches it..." The back of the door was marred all over with deep, five fingered scratches from top to bottom. The ceiling was seven feet or more in height, so no dog (or normal wolf) could have made the markings. There were no other signs of damage, aside from the mirror, and Peter highly doubted a bear could have gotten in here at some point. Rather than speak this time, the wolf just nodded and appeared to beckon the girl forward.

(I'd like to point out that, while the castle is indestructible, a lot of the doors were added later on in its history and they are a little weaker. They can't be broken or completely burned, but they can get scratched or scorched if serious and continued effort is put into it.)

Nervously, Alfonse squinted through the darkness, and his eyes grew wide at the sight of the claw marks. "Although there happens to be a great deal of circumstantial evidence here, this proves nothing. Granted, at this point, I think it's evident that the possibility of Aurora being a... werewolf... is somewhat strong. Still..." He traced his fingertips among the door. "We can't be for certain."
Ferra tentatively stepped into the castle, wringing her hands nervously. She glanced down at the wolf. "Are there other humans here? Or, perhaps elves?" She added the last part with a slightly hopeful tone.

Peter was silent for a moment before speaking again, "You're probably right. There is one last safe way to check, but I won't be able to do it until she gets back from, well, wherever she went... For now, I don't think it's wise to tell her anything. A normal teenage girl is scary enough, without fangs and claws added to it." He gulped at the thought.
Catori's ears perked up, and she eagerly nodded, though it wasn't clear at which she nodded for. The human gesture was odd to see on a wolf, and she'd only learned it after seeing it from Aurora.

She could be a wereBEAR or a wereCAT but I think she's a wereSOMETHING hahaha Every time I try to picture Catori talking I hear Scooby Doos voice in my head... animals would probably sound really weird if they talked]

(Nope, not Minecraft. My real bed. It's one of those inflatable air mattresses and at some point last night it burst. Fortunately, I got paid today for helping a cousin clean her house yesterday, and I've got just enough to buy a replacement.
Alfonse is highly skeptical, it seems. XD Don't worry, he'll figure it out. Sooner or later.
They do sound weird, because my cat talks! He says "mama" whenever I ask him to - usually when I'm feeding him. And I've got a video to prove it. Mind you, that's the only 'word' he knows, but it's adorable to hear him say it.)

(Because real mattresses cost a lot more. An inflatable one is only like $7 and can last a long time if you're careful with it.
XD it's already on my deviantart, in one of my journal entries. If you can't find it, I can PM you the link for it on Youtube.)
