Stressed Out from Athenaeum
Moving into a new apartment is also stressful, and for x, it's their first home away from their parents. That, of course, just makes it more stressful. While they have a set job [which they're thankful for] and they're getting along in life decently, this move marks the beginning of their life away from home, a life where they have to actually act like the adult they are; pay bills, pay rent, all of that good stuff.
The people in their apartment complex are friendly enough too, often inviting them to parties in other apartments. On a whim and due to the fact they don't have work the next day, x accepts the third or fourth invite that they're given, and they head to the apartment in question.
Said apartment is right underneath them, and they can't be more glad that they're actually at the party rather than suffering through the music alone. Despite themselves, they end up staying and socialising, and at some point during the night, they pass out or something similar; either way, they wake up alone in an unfamiliar apartment.
This is y's apartment. After a long night shift at their own job, they enter to find x, which causes some anxiety for x, convinced that y will think that they've broken in. Instead, however, y understands; their room-mate, who they live with only because of obligation or something similar, often throws parties, and so the two begin to talk. For a while, x finds it strange that they've never encountered y; until they find out that y works multiple jobs and is also currently fighting for custody of their young child. Overall, while x might be stressed out, they can understand how y is also stressed out, and so the two begin to talk more often when they see each-other.

Not only that, but they're rather slim, and more toned than having actual muscle to compensate for physical strength. If made fun of for being small, it's guaranteed that the offender will have a fist lodged where it hurts. Their skin is very pale, almost borderline translucent. They have short, boyish, messy, black hair that is styled into a bit of an undercut. On their skin, there are some black tribal tattoos on their biceps and ankles, plus black angel wings on their shoulder blades. Their features are rather angular and relatively androgynous, especially due to an angular jaw, pale and lips, defined cheekbones, and thick eyelashes that frame pale blue eyes. Rivermagic
muse y ;; Indigo Ruiz 26 years old male Fairly light and lean, Indigo stands at around 5'6'' and as such is considered short, though not overly so. He's a little underweight due to often forgetting to eat, but he's toned due to the jobs he works. His skin is a smooth brown and he has freckles over his nose and cheeks, with almond-shaped eyes being a keen grey. His left eye is roughly a quarter brown, and that amount seems to be growing by the day. Tousled, curly hair is black and curls gently behind his ears and at the nape of his neck, and it's rather thick and soft. He speaks with a notable accent; hard to place, but definitely from somewhere in Mexico. His son is ten years old due to a mistake he made as a teenager - but frankly, he regrets nothing. skulduggery

(Looks great!)
"S***...my head." Rei mumbled softly while looking around for a good moment or two before letting out a long sigh through their nose. What... What had happened last night? It had almost been like a dream of sorts... Then again, headaches usually didn't come with dreams anyway. Someone probably... No. Rei hadn't been stupid enough to accept drinks from any kind of strangers. They had brought their own drinks and... Well, it was clear that maybe they didn't drink responsibly. It could have been a lot worse. Last time they were overly drunk, they had proceeded to dance around on poles and pretend to be exotic. Of course that worked out well for some of the partygoers. The last thing Rei needed to have was to have some kind of charge on "public intoxication" on their record. Since then, they had tried to make a goal to not drink too much at parties. of course there were some exceptions...like tonight.
For a since they were a lightweight, it shouldn't have been much of a surprise for them to realize that they had a hard time holding their liquor. That still didn't put a stopper on the potential fun. It wasn't like they were hoping for too much, but it had been about time for them to actually try to blow off some steam in the first place. At least now, they felt slightly more calm. It would have been a little more nice if it wasn't so cold...
They looked around for a good moment, expecting to be waking up in a bed with dark sheets. No luck. They were on the floor, and they realized that they had no shirt on. Crap. Rei proceeded to scramble around for their binder before hastily slipping it on before getting their tank top over them. Good. Last thing they needed was to have someone walk in to find them in that state. There were other strewn clothes about the room. Were they the only ones here?
Speaking of which, where the hell were they? It wasn't like... Wait. downstairs... They were only downstairs from their own apartment. At least they weren't out in the deep part of the city. Even so, they needed to get their head on their shoulders and think as best as they could. That shouldn't have been so hard, right? Maybe there was hope for them yet? First, they would need to find their jeans... Why in the hell would they have been missing those? Hmm... That wasn't much of a concern. Besides, they were right near where their head had been on the floor. As Rei stood up and put on their pants, the frowned in thought.
Maybe they could call in for a sick day? No... That would have been silly. Besides, it was the weekend. They didn't have any work today. God, that was a relief and a bit of weight off of their shoulders. They chuckled softly before running a hand through their messy hair for a good while, actually feeling slightly better. Maybe today things were going their way? they could only hope that.

thank u!! Indigo
The lights of the convenience store flickered, and he snorted without any amusement as he slid his messenger bag onto his shoulder and checked his texts. His shift was now over (thank God), and he was just about ready to go back home; considering what time it was, he was vaguely irritated. He'd been on the night shift and had not meant to take over a coworker's shift, but no, he was too nice for his own good. Despite everything, he gave a small smile and tilted his head to the teenager now working behind the counter.
"Adios, kiddo," he said lightly, "stay safe. Call me if something goes wrong. Don't pay attention to Haley, she's probably in a bad mood."
With a two-fingered salute, he walked through the doors and sighed softly. He was tired, felt sick with tension, and he had a text from Richard, which was very rarely a good sign. Dividing his attention between his phone and the sidewalk, he dodged past people as he walked back to the apartment complex, frowning as he did so.
Text from: Richie 23:00 yo js im having friends over. party night 2night. locked ur room, dw.
00:26 mightve become a bit bigger
08:40 i got work pls dont kill me but theres someone left here. take care of them i think its our upstairs neighbour.
Indigo gritted his teeth and locked his phone, picking up the pace a little. Of course his room-mate would decide to have a party. Why not? It was the weekend! Richard very rarely worked on the weekend! He pinched the bridge of his nose and looked on the bright side; in a few hours, Camilo would be coming over to stay for the week. That was definitely a bonus, and he was excited for that. As if on cue, his phone began to ring and he sighed softly as he put the phone to his ear after answering, pushing open the door of the complex and giving a two-fingered salute to an old woman who, if he remembered correctly, lived a few floors below his own. He grabbed the mail (mostly junk) and entered the elevator.
"Hello," he said, "what's happening?"
"Eh," replied the voice lightly. Of course, Sal would find it in himself to be awkward. "Just making sure you remembered that Cam is staying at yours for the week. Do not let him eat after his bedtime, okay?"
"Dude," without looking, Indigo stepped out of the elevator and walked to the door of his apartment, unlocking it and entering. "He's my kid too, y'know? I know how to parent. I am a decent parent."
"Apparently the courts agree with you, which is just stupid. Anyway, shut up. Is Richard around?"
"No, he's working," Indigo set his keys down and scowled angrily at one of the empty beer cans on the coffee table, grabbing a trash bag and swiping most of the trash into it, "why? Worried about him?"
"Sure, call it that - but he's bad for Cam to be around. You know this, and yet you still room with him."
"Talk to me when you work four jobs," tired of the conversation, he leaned against the counter in the kitchenette and rummaged for something to eat. "Are you done? You goin' to let me parent on my own? Yes? Good. What else is it, Sal? I actually have to deal with some things."
"Just making sure you knew. There's a reason he's with m--"
But Sal didn't have a chance to finish, because, possibly because of some sort of divine intervention, Indigo's signal dropped and he snorted softly as he plugged in his phone's charger and poured himself a bowl of cereal, grabbing a spoon and eating quietly as he padded around the apartment to check for any stragglers. His feet, covered only by socks at this point, were very quiet as he paced, and then he caught sight of someone and raised a single eyebrow. Right - Richard had said that there was someone here, possibly a neighbour. With a small sigh, he leaned his hip against the back of the couch and angled his head to the side.
"I see," he said absently, taking another mouthful of cereal and studying the person carefully. After he swallowed, he pointed his spoon absently, "Richard did give me a warning."

Rei felt their blood run cold when they heard doors open and someone talking. It was definitely male...and they had a bit of an accent. It actually sounded a bit familiar when their dad would speak Spanish to them every now and then. They had only figured it was best to memorize most of the swears and foul words in case they ever got ticked to the point of no return an just needed some kind of outlet. Eh, it was bound to offend someone sooner or later. Then again, it was about just letting off some steam.
Their eyes widened a little more as they looked around wildly. Were there open valuables? Were there broken windows? They were sure that whoever was coming in was going to instantly think that this was some kind of...
The phone conversation was actually a little odd. Something about parenting? That couldn't have been too good. Rei had a couple of mixed feelings about the concept of parenting. It wasn't like their parents supported them too well as they became a teenager and a young adult. Apparently being unable to stick to being who you were born as was against some kind of law. God occasionally made mistakes once in a shocking while. The worst thing a parent could do was be unable to accept who their child was.
Soon, Rei snapped out of the daze before glancing up to see the guy. He was of average height, clearly Mexican, and he was having some strange eye issues. Was it weird that they felt a little light headed? Yes. They cursed a little bit while scrambling around to stand up and hold their hands out defensively, then relaxed.
Oh, so they weren't going to call the police on them. That was definitely a relief. Even so, they still felt like a mess. They sighed out before rubbing the back of their neck. "Sorry about this..." they said while feeling like an absolute idiot. "I usually don't drink at parties...only when it's not a work day." they said softly while looking around the place. Oh god. It looked awful.
"I...Jesus... I can help you clean up since I don't have work today." they offered to them while proceeding to look around, feeling a little unsteady, and pick up empty beer cans and start putting them in a trash bag. They couldn't help but feel a bit guilty about leaving the place like it was while this guy was just coming home after something. Besides, they were sure that the guy looked a little familiar in the first place. They just couldn't put their finger on it.
It was probably because he looked like one of their cousins. Of course that was a little silly. Eduardo was a skinny, lanky kid who could hardly throw a football. Maybe it was the intense eyes that made them think of him. Rei couldn't help but chuckle slightly at the thought for a good moment or two.
"I'm Rei, by the way..." they said with a laugh while tossing out a couple of solo cups. "I live upstairs." they added quickly before looking over at the guy for a good moment or two. "Do you live here with Richard?" they tilted their head from side to side as slowly as their could.

Indigo
Having a stranger in his apartment wasn't strange; Richard often had friends over, often ended up being more of a pain than was worth it, sometimes. But...that said, the other man often paid the full rent without warning Indigo, which helped in the short-run, really. And, admittedly, the dude was great with Camilo, which definitely helped matters. So, of course, he could definitely say (in a rather comfortable manner) that he didn't entirely mind. Nothing appeared to be stolen, nothing appeared to be broken, and really, there was just a bit of a mess to clean up.
"Mm," he said lightly, watching the stranger with narrowed eyes. His head angled slightly downwards and he watched with something akin to amusement, though it was hard to tell whether it truly was that or not. It was entirely possible that it was just his neutral expression, that everything was fine.
Slowly, Indigo looked around the room. It would certainly help if he had someone to help him clean up. He exhaled slowly through his nose and took a few more bites of his cereal before moving back to ditch the mostly-empty bowl on the kitchen counter and grabbing another trash bag, throwing a few more beer cans and some bottles of something into them, crouching nimbly and moving with practice that could only happen when one was used to having to clean up.
"Ah," a single eyebrow raised once again and he glanced to the person - Rei. "I see. Thank you for helping, my name's Indigo. Uh, si," he paused to grab what looked to be underwear and grimaced, throwing it quickly into the trash and shaking his head. Disgusting. He'd have to clean properly soon. "I'm Richard's room-mate. Or he's mine, whichever you prefer," he clicked his tongue lightly. Already, this place was looking better and - oh hell, the door was knocked and he quickly threw a few more cans into the trash bag before wandering to open the door, leaning his body to block the mess that Richard had made. Really, it wasn't much.
The exchange with Sal, who was at least two hours early as always, was brief and semi-hostile, and it took a couple of moments for Camilo to decide that he was done with this. The boy pushed gently past his father, waved goodbye to his other father, and paused momentarily upon seeing the stranger with raised eyebrows.
"Don't. Mess. This. Up," said Sal quietly, in a low growl, and Indigo shut the door on him and pushed away to go back to cleaning up.
It was in rapid Spanish that he spoke to his son, and in rapid Spanish that the replies were returned. After a few moments, Camilo nodded and smiled nervously at the stranger, before walking down the small hall to the rooms. He paused momentarily upon realising that his father's was locked and took a moment to fish out his key, and then the boy vanished and Indigo shook his head, returning to cleaning up as quickly as he could.
"What made you come to this particular party?" he asked casually, as if the exchange had not happened at all. "Was it the constant invitations that Richard tends to send out? Or did he actually go upstairs and ask you in person?"
Richard was, of course, the type of person to do either; though he figured it was likely the former. The latter was a very rare occurrence and usually only happened with people (namely: men) that Richard wanted to get to know. That was just how it went. He clicked his tongue absently and stood up once he'd finished his part of the rather small living room, tying up the bag and dropping it beside the door. He could have his room-mate take it out later.

(Sweet)
Rei couldn't help but sigh in relief as things were working out for the better. A part of them was actually glad to have stuck around a little longer for the sake of seeing and being able to talk to this new person. They had to admit, it was a little weird since their own friends were usually limited to people in the workplace. Ugh. Being a secretary was more of a drag than ever. Sure, Rei was not opposed to organizing. In fact, cleaning was actually seeming as more of a form of therapy than anything else.
It shouldn't have come as a surprised to them when they found out at an early age that they were having some OCD issues... No, CDO... Oh lord... Rei chuckled a bit while looking about the room, making it their mission to pick up some traces of whatever bits and pieces that they could find in general. A ball of lint...some tissues... Oh lord. A part of them didn't even want to try shining a black light over this floor. They could only figure that bleach would be needed sometime during this endeavor.
Either way, this was a nice way to roll out with the morning. Their headache was hurting less. But they sensed tension at the door, so it was only natural that Rei looked over to see another man at the door, with a boy... How strange it was to see the boy come in. That was when it clicked as they could hear the rapid Spanish. Hijo. Papa. Otro papá... Oh...
Rei felt their face heat up, which was a little apparent on his pale face in the first place. Of course his situation was none of their business, and it wasn't like they needed to interfere.
But they couldn't help but smile at the boy when he waved over. "Hola, soy Rei, soy sólo un vecino." they explained quickly before watching the boy walk into Indigo's room. Then they did a little more cleaning up before looking at the other man as casually as they could.
"I... Surprisingly enough, he actually came to my door, which was a little odd." Rei laughed at the memory before shrugging a little bit. "I also needed to blow off a bit of steam since work has really been kicking mi culo." they added with a slight chuckle. "Other than that, it wasn't anything too crazy, I just hope I can handle my drinking next time...which is slightly unlikely." they added before rubbing the back of their neck for a moment.
"Er...it's fine if the kid comes in and just hangs around, I'll watch my mouth." they added before laughing a bit. "I'm pretty fine with kids, I almost got accepted to work at a daycare, but the staff didn't like who I was, or my tattoos." they shrugged a little bit. Since Indigo didn't want to talk about some issues of his, they thought it wouldn't have been too polite to talk about some things that were up with him just yet.

Indigo
If Camilo had heard Rei, he either chose not to respond or was busy trying to settle back down into his father's apartment. He was gone within seconds and did not make a sound as he closed the door beside himself. Under his breath, Indigo murmured something that could have been anything, shook his head, and continued to clean rather quietly. It was only when Rei spoke again that his gaze flicked up gain and he blinked.
"Mmm, fair enough," he paused momentarily to stare at the floor before pushing himself up and grabbing a bucket from under the sink, filling it with hot water and adding some bleach. He took a moment to find a scrubbing brush before bringing it back and, of course, beginning to scrub at the carpet. It bothered him that someone had spilled something on the floor, and he had every intentions of cleaning it. He didn't use gloves while cleaning because he, honestly, was the most rebellious person he knew.
The news that Richard had approached this person didn't quite surprise him, though it bothered him a little. He shook it off, however, and continued anyways, listening once again to the person's words. He snorted softly and paused in where he was cleaning, leaning back on one knee and tilting his head back a little as he rubbing his nose lightly against his upper-arm.
"Camilo doesn't get along with strangers," he told them, "and he probably wants to change around my room to suit him," his gaze flicked past Rei and towards the little hallway. "He'll probably be out for food. Speaking of which," he huffed softly as he pushed himself up and stretched his arms above his head, "to thank you for helping me clean up, you're welcome to stay for breakfast. Lunch? Brunch."
That would do. Brunch was always good, even if he'd just eaten some cereal. The milk was stale and the cereal was gross, so it hadn't exactly been filling nor great. Besides, his son had probably woken up recently, which meant he'd either eaten a piece of toast and nothing else, or he'd not had anything. It depended on how quickly Sal decided he wanted to be moving.
His phone buzzed on the counter, and he checked it absently.
Text from: Sal 10:20 I might be away for a little longer than a week, apparently my business has some problems. Do you think you can handle Camilo for maybe two, three weeks maximum?
Text to: Sal 10:21 yes?? i looked after him for 3 years before u turned up my guy i can look after my own damn son for a few weeks.
He squinted at the 'read' that appeared after his text, before he shrugged and set it down again, exhaling softly. "Anyway, you have plenty of time to practice your alcohol tolerance. Richard is not throwing any parties while Cam is here."

Rei simply shrugged a little bit before smiling slightly after the kid. Oh well. at least they hadn't been too much of a weirdo, hopefully. Still, they felt a little better, and maybe things wouldn't be as awkward now that there was another person in the house. Maybe this was also wishful thinking. It could have been worse. They could have just left the house a mess and went up to try drawing or even singing to some music. That actually wouldn't have been too bad. Even then, this was just as good, if not a little better.
What a rebel this guy was. Was it wrong to think that they liked the rebel types? It didn't really matter, now did it? Using bleach with no gloves on to keep himself safe. Oh lord, he was just having a bit of a blast. Of course that was fine and dandy with them. In fact, they actually knelt down to his level to try studying him again. He was a bot odd looking. Maybe that was just because their mind wasn't really in the right place? Oh well. Hopefully their head wouldn't be too cloudy. It was a bit funny of him to just be cleaning around so intensely.
To be honest, Rei had been a little confused when Robert invited them over. They weren't too sure about the whole idea at first. Sure, the neighbors were nice. But this guy had been a bit too friendly with them. A part of them had almost been curious to ask what was their deal. Of course that couldn't have been asked anyway. It was still good enough to even go out to a party in the first place.
"Okay, okay, fair enough." Rei held their hands up casually while sitting Indian style on the floor for a good moment or two. Of course most kids were pretty shy. They were just surprised that he looked over to acknowledge him anyway. Still... "Still, he's a cute kid, did he get the looks from you?" Maybe the flirting could have been saved for later. But they had seen an opportunity and easily took it anyway.
What a surprise to be offered food for actually helping out. Of course Rei wasn't an antisocial idiot. "I'd like that, I could use a brunch to help with the hangover." they replied happily before sitting up a little straighter. "I'd offer my help, but my signature dish is only store-bought ramen..." they laughed at themselves. "I unfortunately can't cook to save my life just yet."
They took note of Indigo reading something on his phone. If it bothered him, they really didn't seem to realize it in the first place. "I think that will actually..." they chuckled and stood up to stretch out. "Nah, never mind. It's a shame there won't be parties, guess that means I would have to..." they dramatically paused while placing a hand over their chest, "seek other ways to actually talk to you since I'm sure I would have seen you around the complex more than just this time..." they wiggled their fingers, trying to be a little funny to lighten the mood.

Indigo
He was distantly aware of Camilo cursing very quietly in the other room and he snorted softly as he washed his hands. In all honesty, he was rather thorough about it, as having learned from his own mother. He took a moment to focus on the task at hand before turning off the faucet and drying his hands with a hand-towel that was often hung up in the kitchen, and then he went hunting through the fridge. Well, they really didn't have much. Eggs (they were fine), some sausage, bacon...hm.
"I hope you're not vegetarian or vegan, 'cus all we got is meat and eggs and stuff," he frowned thoughtfully as he set the items on the side, "possibly some bread if you're really lucky."
The apartment, he noted, definitely looked much cleaner. He could clean it some more later - probably when Camilo was in school the following week or when Richard was around for him to boss around. Speaking of - a glance to his phone told him that his latest message from Richard was 'aaaaa' and nothing more, so he decided not to dignify that with a response. Instead, he focused on turning on the stove and fighting with it to actually heat up the pan, scowling down at it. He had to find a way to fix most of this sh*t soon, but honestly, neither he nor Richard had the money to do so.
"Mm," he said, which appeared to be his default response noise, "he has inherited his looks from my side of the family. Except for his eyes. Those blue eyes are from the white-ass side of his family."
Finally succeeding in getting the heat to stay even, he cracked a few eggs into the now-heated pan and leaned against the counter absently to reach over to the food disposal bin and throw the shells in, leaning over to swill his hands in the small amount of water he'd left in the sink.
"The one thing you learn about parenting is that the stuff you think can sustain life cannot, actually, sustain life," he snorted softly and glanced to Rei from the corner of his eye. "So you learn to cook or you become one of the parents where all you do is oven meals and not actual stuff that the kid'll eat in later life. My own mother would have killed me if I let my kid eat the stuff that your average American eats."
Speaking of his mother brought back mostly good memories, though her reaction to Camilo had not been great. She'd gotten over it, after a while, and then they'd drifted apart again for other reasons. It was just one of those things that happened; Indigo was independent and proud of himself, now, and if he looked back from high-school, he wouldn't say that he entirely regretted what had happened.
"You could just come down and knock," he commented idly, "if I'm actually here, then I'm usually fine with hanging out. I work every day except Saturday during the day and Sundays, and since Camilo's here, I'll be here anytime after 2pm until 11pm."
Now that he really thought about it, his schedule was a little better when he had his son around. Speaking of...he glanced over to the hallway and snorted as Camilo finally emerged from his room, changed into more comfortable clothing. The boy studied Rei for a couple of seconds before padding past quickly and approaching his father, reaching out and hugging him tightly, nose burying into Indigo's hip.
"Hola, mijo," he hummed lightly, using his free hand to ruffle Camilo's curly hair. "This is Rei, if you ignored their introduction. You gonna say 'hi' or do you wanna stay there?"
Camilo mumbled something in incoherant Spanish, possibly 'nice to meet you', but it was hard to tell when he was clinging to Indigo.

"Don't worry, I'm not above killing a cow and taking the cheese and milk it made, so I think I shall survive." Rei said to him with a bit of a laugh. If anything, vegetarians and vegans were a blessing singe it makes more room for the normals to consume what they were choosing to give up. Even then, it was nice that he even considered the idea that maybe they had a different diet. They watched him for a good moment or two before drumming their fingers along the table for a while.
They pursed their lips before proceeding to wipe away the crumbs off the surface since it was really starting to get to them. Well, at least their urge to clean around had lessened a little more. Even so, it was calming in more aspects than others. Maybe things could soon settle?
Then a giggle escaped them as they heard Camilo softly cursing. If anything, it was sort of funny. Hopefuly, he was actually saying them in the proper context.
Rei playfully placed a hand over their heart. "White-*** side?" they couldn't help but chuckle. "I take offense to that." they rolled their eyes with a bit of a laugh. Their mom used to make jokes about how they almost looked like a vampire. As a response, they had said that they would have made the sparkly ones get a run for their money, after they stopped burning in the sunlight in the first place. "I'm only kidding, he has some nice eyes, even if they're not from you." they shrugged while clasping their hands together.
Rei smiled slowly to him as they listened to his little speech about cooking. Damn. He knew how to really preach it home. "Well, Canada isn't so different from America, we just happen to be a lot nicer." they said casually while running a hand through their hair with a little laugh. "You raise a good point though...though I doubt I'd be able to settle and have kids..." they admitted to him.
"Then again, it's pretty wild that you seem to be doing a good job with how you're handling things." they said with a brief smile. Of course, if Tei ever had a id in high school, they definitely would have been dead. Maybe there would have been support fr their other issues...but not much.
It was nice to know that Indigo was giving them options as to when they could actually swing by the place. It was a relief, and it seemed that Camilo played a nice factor into the aspect of his schedule. The part that really mattered was just actually having a change at an alternative acquaintance that wasn't from work. It was weird enough some were her neighbors.
"Hola." Reina smiled to the boy gently before casually kneeling down to his level with a smile. "Don't worry, I promise I don't bite." they chuckled softly before slowly standing up again. "Seems he's attached to you." they chuckled a little more. Of course it was incredibly adorable to see in the first place.

Indigo
He gave a soft snort at their words and shook his head, now focusing on the brunch. It wasn't exactly healthy and he knew that, but hey! Grease helped mop up any remaining alcohol to finish sobering the other person up, and Camilo didn't often get to have things like this when he was with Sal, so it was a win/win situation. Sometimes, good food called for being easy to make and also greasy. It was just how life worked, really. Even with one hand, Indigo could honestly work with ease - it was a skill that he'd learned quickly.
"Mmm, reverse racism or whatever," he glanced up and raised an eyebrow, "totally exists. Absolutely."
There was a sort of dryness to Indigo's voice when he joked about this, and he could feel Camilo trying not to giggle beside him. The boy was, he had to admit, very similar to him; from brown skin to dark, curly hair, it would be easy for him to forget that his kid even had another parent. It was nice to do, sometimes.
"I was born and raised in Mexico. Best food around, that sort of thing," he reached down to turn down the heat as the fat caused a couple of pinprick burns on the inside of his wrist. It didn't hurt, it was just some sort of irritating thing. "Gotta keep it in the family, now. But thank you," both eyebrows raised, for the first time that day. It wasn't often that he raised both eyebrows. "I wouldn't call it settled, but I definitely have a kid. And I am handling things admirably. Sometimes, I even manage to do the laundry on laundry day. Save your applause, please."
Into his side, Camilo giggled before turning his head to look at Rei from the corner of his eye. He continued to cling to his father with something like nervousness, a faint tremble in his left hand. He glanced up to Indigo and realised that he'd gotten into this situation, and so he looked back at the stranger and blinked owlishly at them. "Hola," he greeted timidly. "¿Cómo estás?"
"Attached at the hip," Indigo commented idly and softly, possibly no longer focused on his conversation with Rei. He reached up (still with one hand) and opened the cabinet, relieved to see that there were, actually, three entire plates that were clean, and he pulled the down lightly. He set them on the counter and took a moment to lean over to grab some cutlery, and then plated up the food. Finally, Camilo detached himself and took his own plate, mumbling a quiet 'thank you' and walking to the kitchen island that separated the kitchenette area from the living room. He pulled himself up onto the stool and waited patiently for the adults. "After you," said Indigo, focusing on turning off the heat and removing the pans from the heat.

Rei smiled a bit before actually taking the plate and proceeding to finally go to the table before sitting next to Camilo with a content sigh. At least it was nice to be able to have a decent morning with strangers. They couldn't help but let their minds wander to Robert, and what that could lead to. Hmm, maybe not much good if he was a constant party animal. But now there wouldn't be any parties to arrive to, so that was a real relief. There would be a lower risk of having to wake up in the middle of a room with a messed up head.
"Estoy bien, gracias." They smiled over to the little boy before giving him a bit of a chuckle. "What grade are you in?" they asked gently while starting to eat up the food happily. God. How long had it been since they had a decent home meal? They couldn't even remember... Well, there was that thanksgiving, but that had been when they came out to the family. It hasn't been that well received, and it gave way to more motivation to moving out. It was definitely about time that they had the chance to start out like this.
They glanced over to Indigo before smiling slightly. If anything, he was definitely a nice person to be around, that was one of the best first impressions they got off of a person in the first place. Then again, they doubted that he was thinking the same thing. He found them in a hangover and in a mess. There were worse ways to meet. So...
Rei fiddled with their fork, feeling a bit lost in thought now that they really had no idea what to do or say anymore. Great. They ate some more until finishing off the plate, then leaned back with a satisfied sigh. "That was great, thanks for the meal." they said while smiling over at Indigo for a moment or two.
"Er...if you're not busy sometime...if we're off work, we should hang out more." they felt like a total idiot for saying something so stupid. "I mean, I'd rather not have to deal with a hangover while talking to you, or Camilo." they laughed before covering the lower half of their race with a hand as if that would hide the blush that was starting to form.
