I one of the books, Rock says that he has a curse that lets him live forever.
That left me with a lot of questions:
Why does Rock have the curse?
Who gave Rock the curse?
Where did Rock (and Midnight) come from?

The Information about Rock is never explained. It's unlikely it will be, because he's meant to be a mysterious character (like Sol, who, by the way, the Erins confirmed we will never get the complete past of). What we do know is that Rock is from a time long before any of the cats from the Clans lived, and that he was the first Stoneteller (although I'm not sure if he went by that title back then).
As for Midnight, not much is known about her either. However, we do know from a chat with Vicky that Midnight is a ghost. Whether or not that means she died and never truly moved on or is a spirit that chose to watch over everyone (maybe similar to having immortality like Rock) is unknown. However, the other characters treat her as though she is alive, unlike Rock who is similar to a spirit. She also lived somewhere before she met the Clans, but was forced to leave because her own species ridiculed her for making friends with other ones. Also, the official Wiki lists her as "living", even though she's confirmed to be a ghost. So, perhaps she's like a guardian angel figure.

I hope so much for a book about Rock. He is so misterios and so many questions. It would be interesting.

WAIT, If Midnight's a "a ghost," why does she have her own den? Why does she have to return to the den? Why does she still have to travel to the Clans to see them? Or eat and drink?

That is never explained either... It is just explained that she's been watching over many different species of animals since the dawn of time, including the Clans... In some legends, spirits can manifest and otherwise act as they would if they were alive... But this can also include needing the things that they would need in the living world... Perhaps Midnight is one of those cases.
Someone also pointed out that Midnight appears in the world of living, and Rock only appears in dreams... So maybe they have separate duties (one to guide those in dreams, and the other to guide those who were awake) so they can always watch over everyone...

No, he is not the first Stoneteller, though it’s easy to think so. In I believe POT it’s revealed that Half Moon is the first Stoneteller, not Rock. Though he is most likely an ancient stoneteller like her, he’s not the first. |
