I'm from Australia, so as you can imagine, no one here can say it properly on their first try. Sometimes it can be an effective ice breaker, but other times it's really embarrassing to have to repeat it five times in front of a tutor and a classroom of people I don't know...
also, olives are fantastic, I don't know what everyone's problem is.

that can be a problem round here actually. Northern Ireland has very socially divided areas because of our civil war, typically British areas and typically Irish areas all over this place (tho most young people these days don't really care?? It's more the oldies who hang onto that stuff) so it's a global issue ;-; It's not that difficult to pronounce if you know a bit of Irish, 'mh' makes a 'w' soundtho, so idk why it's 'knee-vh' and not 'knee-w'

I've never been to Ireland, but I've seen documentaries, and it seems crazy how ingrained that stuff is in the general culture.
The way I say it is knee-uv, but I think that's used more in the south? It's easier to get people to use the northern one though.
I get that with a lot of food. Like people who hate tomatoes? They're so inoffensive and pervasive it's like hating air. But olives I sorta understand, it's an acquired taste. They are delicious though.
