The Sengoku Jidai An Ancient Japanese roleplay (Note: this is historical fiction)
Post 1: Intro and History Post 2: Mechanics and equipment Post 3: Clans and members and character creation
Intro
The 22 samurai met on the mountain top, able to see the hills and castles that outstretched japan, that each of these soldiers were fighting for. The 21 men, purple armor, banners on back, hands on weapons, looked at the bloodied, and beaten old man, that stood before them. This man,his yellow armor tattered and warn, the man beaten, devoid of his clan, all that he had worked for, stood before the army, heaving and panting. There was nothing he could do, he had lost. The lone man, put his hand on his sword, preparing to make a final stand, to make a valiant effort. One of the 21 men, drew out from the crowd, and unsheathed his katana. The lone man was cut down, as he fell to the floor, his eyes, locked with fear. He had lost, and the 21 men had succeeded. Because of this, those hills and castles that could be seen from the hilltop and beyond, was thrown into a period of chaos and war. "I suggest we get to work." The killer spoke as he sheathed his bloodied blade. "There is more war to come."
The Sengoku Jidai So, why this era? well, there are a couple of reasons.
1. The Singoky Jidai was the height of typical Samurai, warrior monk, and ninja combat. This was when knights of Japan would fight for land and power.
2. Clans. The Sengoku Jidai was all about clans and family names. Now, I was thinking of not just taking clans from history, but rather, allowing players to make their own clans and family bloodlines.
3. The setting. Small towns spursed throughout, dirtied stone roads that make up paths, huge boistorous cities followed by mountains and farms. This is a great setting for a roleplay. These Samurai may have seiges on castles, while a lone 5 soldiers try to defend. It could make for some really interesting scenarios.
4. Bonds and enemies. Relationships during this time flow naturally, whether negotioating battle plans, or fighting another clan, you will be making friends and enemies a lot.
Combining all of these points, and more, this is a very interesting world to partake in and roleplay.

Mechanics
So, the mechanics of this roleplay. How will it work, since it's pretty out there. Well, here's how it will go.
Each character is allowed to make a clan, there will be up to 5, I'm thinking, but maybe more can be allowed. Anyway, after there are 5 clans, newcomers can join clans and fight for them, either being Ninjas, Samurai, Diplomats. I will also be implimenting one other "Clan." These will be called the Warrior Monks, which played a prominant role.
Along with the clan system, there will also be a clan system...of sorts. It won't be complicated, but it will help me get to know what type of character you are doing. Here are the Classes.
Samurai-A heavy combatant in Sengoku Jidai. Someone to always be feared.
Ninja- Deceptive, clever, and sneaky, Ninja are always suited to do jobs Samurai can't do.
Diplomat-If fighting isn't your style, you can talk about problems instead. You will be the voice, and will have many connections with other clans.
Medics-Alright, I'm pushing it a little, but you can be a medic. Making sure people can recover is your biggest concern.
I will add more. You can also make clan exclusive classes if you so please, such as having a calvary class if your clan is focused on calvary charges. Or a bowman if your clan is meant for long reaches.
Equipment
You are able to pick from this list if you want, or use others if you know them. Here are some basic weapons.
Katana- A sword primarily used by Samurai. Cut down your foes with this fearsome blade.
Tachi- A more curved katana. Older than it's Katana counter-part.
Naginata-A short-katana like blade attached to a 5ft pole.
Yari- A weapon like the naginata, but more similar to a spear.
Yumi- A large, assymetric bow.
Shuriken- A ninja star
Kunai- Similar to a throwing knife
Kusarigama- A blade similar to a scythe, attached to a chain
Tekko-Kagi- Sharp spokes that are meant to be put on the hands, and are used to scratch the opponent.
Blowgun- The user fires a dart by blowing into a tube.
- Sai were pointed, prong-shaped metal batons, with two curved prongs projecting from the handle.
- Fun Fact: The naginata was actually most used by female samurai who would fight alongside the men, called onna-bugeisha.
- Nunchaku were twin wooden battons connected by a short chain.

( Hello! I can delete this, if necessary, but I just wanted to say that oh my gosh, I adore this idea. <3 I'm a huge Japanese history buff, so the Warring States period is one of those things I really love. I can definitely help you out with anything, if you need it.
Umm, now, I wanted to make a couple of characters, but I have a few questions. Are the "canon" Clans (i.e. the Oda, the Date, etc.) going to be present in this roleplay? Or would we have to make them manually? If so, are we allowed to make characters based on the samurai of those Clans?
Also; the rank itself is not listed, but is it possible to make a warlord/daimyo? I think that that's pretty much the same as a Clan leader, though. I can understand if not, though; I can gladly make a different character. )

Anyway, as for the "Canon" clans, you can make them, or I can make them. I think it's a great idea to include the real clans that were actually in history. I didn't want to put them in center stage, considering there are so many of them, and I didn't want to intimidate people who didn't know everything. I'm thinking the clans that were real, won't be included as one of the six, but I think it would be great to include them. And also, yes, you are allowed to make characters based on the samurai in those clans. And yes, I can fit in a warlord/daimyo class in there.)

( It's a shame there aren't more ancient Japan RPs on here. But I'm glad I found another one, heh.
Ah, alright then! That clears things up. I can see the canon Clans as being less of the center focus in this roleplay, since there were a lot of major and minor ones. And thank you! I'll be putting up my charries soon. c:
I also have a few ideas for the weaponry, if you don't mind me sharing them: - Sai were pointed, prong-shaped metal batons, with two curved prongs projecting from the handle. - Fun Fact: The naginata was actually most used by female samurai who would fight alongside the men, called onna-bugeisha. - Nunchaku were twin wooden battons connected by a short chain. - I'm not sure if we're that far into the era, but at this time, firearms were being created. )

( Aw, no problem. I'll do whatever I can to contribute! <3
Anyways, here are my characters and Clan. If something needs to be changed, I'll gladly fix it! ) Clan Name: Date Clan Leader: Masamune Date Clan Color: Green History of Clan: A mere feudal lord with little land at the time, Masamune became a great lord of Mutsu Province when he subjugated parts of the land for the shogunate. By the late 1400s, the Date were recognized as a powerful clan. Bonds/ties/associations with other clans: Possibly on neutral terms with the Sohei. Popular Weapon of Choice (Optional): Swords, specifically the tachi. Clan Exclusive Class (Optional): Firearm
Character Name: Masamune Date Gender: Male Personality: Masamune Date, the "One-Eyed Dragon", is the 17th head of the Date clan. He is a hotheaded, impulsive, and arrogant young boy who believes himself to be superior over everyone. He thinks of most others as incompetent, often regarding them with his signature: "Idiots!" or "Imbeciles!" - be they his enemy or not. He is very independent, wanting to do things on his own, and paying no heed to his vassals' advice. Despite his egotistical nature, he is actually quite a clever lord, capable of turning the tides of battle with his plots. He values his wits, personal material wealth, and power; a contrast to his brash tone. Sometimes, he tends to get emotional and depressive, as the death of his father is something that stuck with him since his rise to leadership. Though he puts up a tough front, Masamune appreciates it when people praise him. His way of showing it, however, isn't exactly the nicest, as he may respond by yelling an insult to his listener or treating them coldly. Though in his lust for power and respect blinds him to all else, he sincerely cares for the future of Japan, and is willing to bow down to others if it means keeping his ambitions alive.
Appearance: Masamune, although somewhat short in stature, is quite an attractive figure to behold. Standing at 5'4", he has average-sized muscles and a slender body, as well as a surprisingly defined jawline and collarbone. His eye is a chocolate brown, with flecks of bright green mixed in. The smaller bangs of his equally brown hair fall over his right eye, which has quite the story behind it. As a young child, Masamune lost his right eye to polio, which got so bad that it resulted in him ordering Kojūrō, his most trusted retainer, to take it out for him. What remains of that right eye is well-hidden by an elaborate eyepatch. His hair could be called a little unkempt, but stylized in his own way. Covering most of it, though, is his helmet - a black kabuto-style helmet lined with gold and green. To top it off, a tiny golden dragon statue is plastered on the front, alongside a large crescent moon arching over it. His dark armor and gauntlets are adorned with the same gold-green accents, while a golden dragon shines on the breastplate. To finish, he wears a polka-dotted haori jacket over his back, leaving the long sleeves to fly in the wind. Equipment: Twin Katana Clan: Date Class: Warlord Bonds/Crushes/Family: Terumune Date is his father. Yoshihime is his mother. ~ Open to crushes & romantic interest. Account Name: Moonshine06 ( Credit: Masamune's information was found at the Koei Wikia. ) Character Name: Tama Ishida Gender: Female Personality: Tama is a taciturn; scrutinizing, idealistic, and hard-working. She has a grey-area ethical reasoning that lends her a sense of neutrality at times, but she usually has no trouble deciding between right and wrong. Tama has a..."fancy", eloquent-like way of speaking, a way to show off her witty mindset. Most people are confused by her form of speech until they break down the words. She claims "she's not one to flaunt her skills", but it can seem like she does so, as she can be very intimidating sometimes. Like a general - metaphorically - she prefers to aid her lord, Yoru, in tactics and strategies when the time calls for a battle. She is somewhat demanding and authoritative, believing that everyone must do their job and do it right. She is noted to be rather aloof, if not...uncaring of others. She feels as if love is very unnecessary; as something that will only get in the way of her duties. And normally, her feelings won't change for the next male who walks by. While she's not the most cheerful, she is still rather nonchalant, never worrying too heavily over something trivial. Ah, but you should not mistake her for coldhearted; if you have the patience and time to crack open her immensely thick shell, you will discover that she can be actually quite understanding and gentle. And maybe even a genuine smile, if your really lucky. Her fighting skills are very good, and sometimes she will come up with a few new moves of her own. She tends to refer to Yoru as "Yoru-dono" (Lord Yoru). Appearance: Tama is a remarkable study when it comes to sleek design. Withal, this lady is long and lean, and yet, she is a natural athlete. Don’t be fooled by the svelte, tubular physique she sports; she has a surprising weight and hard muscle tone, being neither frail nor fragile. Her narrow frame is made specifically for running and leaping long distances. She has dark, slanted eyes that are rimmed with the lightest of red makeup. A tiny scar can be seen across her right cheek. Her fine hair is a dark raven color, and she keeps it tied at the end with a bright red ribbon. Usually she keeps her head covered with a light blue cloth. As for her attire, she sticks to navy blues and blacks, with red as accents. Normally, she is seen with a shortened navy yukata that stops at her knees, glittering blue waves printed on the hems, along with a sky blue obi with a red string tied in the very middle. Equipment: Kusarigama (She named it Mayonaka, or "Midnight".) - She keeps teal prayer beads wrapped around her wrist. Clan: Sohei Class: Samurai/Warrior Monk Bonds/Crushes/Family: Her mother is a former geisha. Her father's whereabouts are unknown. ~ Open to crushes & romantic interest. Account Name: Moonshine06 Character Name: Ranhime Gender: Female Personality: Ranhime - or simply 'Ran', as she perfers to be called - is a shrewd young lady with a kind demeanor. She is modest, quiet, and sensitive, if you were to describe her in three words... But she usually won't do or say anything if her feelings were ever to be hurt. She is noted to be very motherly, gentle, and extremely empathetic towards the weak, easily connecting with another person's feelings. If you tell her that your heart is broken, she might gaze at you sadly through teary, sympathetic eyes. Ran is skilled with her words, be it comforting, persuading, or giving advice; her occupation as a peaceful diplomat does her well, unlike the brutal fighting lifestyle of a samurai. She does tend to hold a grudge against anyone who harms her or one of her companions, and her rare wrath can be quite terrifying. Ranhime is actually quite wise, despite being young in appearance. Despite seeming like a doormat, Ran just has a kind, easy-to-break heart. So it is best to handle her with care. Appearance: This female's name means, literally, "orchid princess"; although calling her 'princess' is not something she'd like to hear. Suihime sports a somewhat small build, but a narrow and frail body; you'd wonder how a skinny girl like herself copes with her health. Like the delicate pink petals on an orchid flower, this female's kimono is covered from top to bottom in a light magenta sort of shade. The pale color darkens as it reaches her sleeves and hem, both decorated with painstakingly detailed cherry blossoms and tree branches. Her hair is dark brown; almost always tied in a modest bun with a purple kanzashi hanging on the side. If she were to let it down, one would usually find it in the typical hime cut style that was common for the women. Her adorably wide eyes are a brilliant sky blue mixed with darker lapis flecks. Equipment: She hides a metal gunsen, or war fan, in her long obi. It is painted lovely colors to give off the impression of a regular folding fan. Given her rank, though, she rarely has to use it. Clan: N/A Class: Diplomat Bonds/Crushes/Family: She has no known family, but they are said to be of nobility. ~ Open to crushes & romantic interest. Account Name: Moonshine06

Character Name: Kakashi Daichi Gender: Male Personality: Kakashi seems to be very laid back, and appears to not care about anything. He is very clever and strategic, and depends on his speed more then his physical strength. He seems to enjoy playfully teasing his friends, and will often play tricks on them. However, Kakashi is a bit heartless, he kills his enemies without regret, and his 'encouraging' statement is "The worst thing they can do is take our lives." Though heartless to enemies, he will protect his friends with his life, and if they are killed, he blames only himself. Appearance: Kakashi is about 6 foot, and he weighs in at around 148 pounds. He is lean but muscular. Due to his somewhat small size, his enemies will often falsely believe he is not powerful. However, he can hit hard if he wants to. His eyes are a piercing electric blue color, and his hair is a light silver color. (Yes, he's based off of my profile Kakashi ) Equipment: Shuriken, Kunai Clan: ( whichever, I don't really care ) Class: Ninja Bonds/crushes/family: All deceased flamerune

( TheFunnyRobot ;; I got you! Here's a starter for my tsundere son. Anyone is free to spy on him, challenge him, talk with him, whatever. )Lord Masamune - - open to rp Today hadn't been as chaotic as he'd expected.
Masamune sat idly on the patio, looking as if he hadn't a single care in the world. Besides trying to conquer Japan as his own, of course. He was preparing to go off to fight again, despite having almost gotten killed in his first battle a few months ago. Lucky for him that Kojuro Katakura was there to save him from being attacked, albeit injuring himself in the process. The young lord, as nervous as he was over his retainer's health, made sure to visit him everyday; thankfully, though, he recovered in time.
Tapping his helmet laying beside him with a finger, he sighed, musing on what to do. He was itching to hop on over to the provinces and lay siege upon one of the castles, however. Ever since he displayed brazen acts of defiance at Lord Hideyoshi's pardon - which Masamune was unimpressed with - he'd given himself a dauntless, bold outlook. He could've very well lost his head, but even so he was steadfast in his determination.
Right now, he just needed a bit of casual alone time to clear his thoughts. Maybe a walk around the village would do him well. Placing his helmet on his head, he mounted one of his horses and set off to the small town near the capital, Kyoto.

Yoru Heishi walked slowly on his way to Kyoto, his pack that draped over his shoulders lightly tapping his outer thigh with each step he took. He had been walking for hours now, his feet grew tired along with his shoulders, that carried the weight of his items that he carried. If he had others with him, Yoru Heishi would give some of his weight to the other soldiers, but unfortunately, his fellow monks were holding guard, making sure no enemy got even near his settlement. In Heishi's eyes, the temple was more valuable than his life.
And with that, he walked and walked, making sure to recite in his mind the food items he needed. It will be more or less, a day before I return. Hopefully they don't get too worried. Yoru Heishi said to himself as he continued to walk. Usually, leaders troddled to Kyoto in search of political or economical gain, but not him. Yoru Heishi was in search of a wealthy size of food, in order to prepare for a grand feast for him and his fellow monks. The reason for this, is they defeated the Ushi clan, a feared enemy. Usually, the monks got their food by growing, and on occasions, going to nearby villages to acquire to them, exotic foods. But, this was a very, very special occasion, and called forth a grander feast. Every nearby village was invited. It wasn't a victory of just the clan, but the people surrounding the temple were also pleased with the fact of peace after chaos. Those people, sided with Heishi's monks.
As Yoru Heishi walked the road, he saw one man on horseback. Lucky him. Yoru Heishi thought. The horse is going at a relatively slow pace, maybe I can catch up to him. Heishi said, giving a dry chuckle as he tried to run towards the only person he had seen for the past day.

Lord Masamune - - with: Yoru Masamune made his way into the streets, paying no attention to the bows and stares he was recieving. It was repetitive for him, albeit a bit boring, too. His nose twitched at the familar scents of the village; cooking food, dust in the air, faint smoke. He breathed, feeling as if the people here could at least be a bit more clean about their surroundings. Well, once he reached Kyoto, he knew more 'luxurious' folk would be there. Not to mention he could travel up to the Hōjō clan afterwards and show the soldiers at Odawara Castle what for by conquering them.
As his horse clopped along at a steady pace, the lord looked about the place to divide his attention a bit. He didn't expect to see a tall man walking straight towards him, however. Narrowing his eyes slightly, he stopped the chestnut-colored equine, with a gentle tug of its reigns. He didn't know if this man - Masamune assumed he was a monk, judging by his clothes - was here to tell him something or what, but... he did look a little familar. Raising an eyebrow at him, the young lord stared Yoru down, expecting a formal greeting. He didn't speak ( yet, of course ) but just gave him a look that said: What do you want?

(Your character could meet in Kyoto with the others if you prefer. That could be the best way to meet others. I'm probably going to make other characters, since I only have one.)
Yoru Heishi finally was able to catch up to the horseman, recognizing him as the fearsome lord he was as he approached nearer. Fear seemed to engulf the lone monk as he approached Lord Masamune. Yoru Heishi started to walk slower, as to try to sound more presentable to the respectable lord. Yoru Heishi used his naginata as a walking stick as he approached, realizing as he got closer, that holding a weapon wasn't the greatest idea when talking to a lord with a fabled harsh temper. But, despite fear, Yoru Heishi proceded.
"Greetings." Yoru Heishi said in a respectable voice, trying to not trigger the temper of the lord. He clasped his naginata tighter. "I am Yoru Heishi, I am a monk, deriving from over there." He said, pointing to the east. "And I know who you are, Lord Masamune. My monks and I have heard all about your fearless and strong soldiers." Yoru Heishi said, trying to focus on politeness rather than formality. This can bring a friendship between the two, and Yoru Heishi knew how he needed a strong army, that could lend some supplies. But, he knew this was a long, tiring process, and this alliance would hopefully come in due time. Yoru Heishi couldn't help but notice how the lord sitting on horsetop, resembled how much higher in power lord Masanume was than Yoru Heishi. "What brings you to Kyoto?" He asked, trying to get all of the timidness out of his voice.

Meanwhile, Kakashi was sitting in a tree watching the exchange with his eyes narrowed. He assessed the situation, debating on just leaving, or staying just in case he needed to jump in. Less due to thoughtfulness, Kakashi stayed, fueled mainly by curiosity. His fiery blue eyes were half closed, but he saw and heard everything. Every twitch of the hand, every breath. So far, Kakashi could sense no aggression from the two men. A monk warrior and a lord, he assumed.

( So sorry for the poof. I'm going to be at school most of the day, so I won't be roleplaying much until 4 PM EST or so. )
Lord Masamune - - with: Yoru Inwardly, he was proud that this man - Yoru Heisei - knew who he was. He was a "late bloomer" in terms of rising to power, but who wouldn't know about him?
"Hello." Masamune made a point of nodding his head curtly, a slight bow of greeting. He wasn't particularly irked at Yoru not bowing to him, but the daimyo found his own tenacity by addressing Yoru respectfully, at least.
At the monk's question, a slight smile came to Masamune's face, although it was more of a smirk. The smile held no malice, though. "Ah, no reason, actually," he replied casually - for once not replying with a snappy remark. "Just wanted to take a stroll before I go off to battle. You?"

There seemed to be no ill-will between the two, which Yoru liked. This could be a start to a friendship. Yoru Heishi told himself as he leaded on his naginata. Maybe even an alliance. "I am in charge of bringing the food from Kyoto back to my village." Yoru Heishi said, before pointing towards the east. "If you keep heading that path, you will find a collection of huts and villages. Past those will be our temple." Yoru Heishi said with a smile. "You are more than welcome to join us. We'll be preparing and giving away some of the food we prepare to nearby villages. I'm sure we would all be delighted for you to join us." Yoru Heishi said with a bow. "The feast should be happening once I bring the food back. Most likely it will start 2 days after this one, at around nightfall."

Lord Masamune - - with: Yoru The Dragon looked in the direction of Yoru's finger. He couldn't make it out, but the faint shadow of a castle could be seen in the far distance, east of there. Quite the man, Masamune mused. To come all the way through the busy capital out here just for food supplies. The young man's eyes widened at the monk's next statement; he was here to collect food for a giant soirée to commemorate a recent victory. Turns out the Date Clan wasn't the only one looking for power amongst the leaders.
At Yoru's solicit, Masamune tilted his head to the side, his one eye focused upwards in thought. "Hmph. Well, it doesn't sound like it'll be a waste of my time. And it's your victory, not mine." He stared back at Yoru, a slight smile curling up at his lips. "Although, I wouldn't mind getting out for a party. I'll see, Heishi-sama."
Masamune used the honorific he thought was necessary to the situation - Yoru Heishi wasn't a commoner, but not a high-ranking lord either. Although, Masamune didn't assume things right away; who knows? Yoru could be as popular a daimyo as he.
