(Enjoy the homecoming festivities, Red!) (I hope you feel better soon, Sky, and that everything works out.) (What's up with in all my little Selectioners' lives today? Hahaha.) Hazel was too engrossed in her game to hear Alex's approaching footsteps. She was humming a jaunty, energized tune that often played at the carnival that came to town once a year, because the ****ziness of it applied well to her current festivities. She reached one end of the hall, spun around, and took off running the opposite direction, passing the few potted plants and pictures on the wall. About halfway down, she braced herself and flung her arms out for balance, sliding across the marble floor "smooth as a gliding ghost," as she had once jokingly described Violet when they had played the game at home. Of course, she didn't feel much like a gliding, intangible ghost when, five seconds later, she slammed right into somebody and rebounded backward onto her backside. "Ow! Sorry! You were in my runway...Oh!" She blinked her hazel-green eyes, taking in the sight of poor Prince Alexander and his scattered papers. Suddenly she felt kind of like a school bully who had knocked the a little nerd's papers out of his hands. She hurriedly pulled her robe closed across her front. "My apologies, Your Highness. I didn't see you." Alexander was looking down at the documents when he rounded a corner, and thus had little hope in preventing the collision. He glanced up and had a split second to register confusion before something crashed into him with substantial force, sending him sprawling and his stack of papers flying. He was somewhat dazed for a moment before he'd realized what had happened. "How dare-" Alexander sputtered, holding his head as he sat up. He began to say more when he looked up and saw whom it was who'd ran into him. The furious expression on his face melted away into shock at the sight of Lady Hazel, one of the Selected girls. She was- embarrassingly- in a night gown, robe, and socks. His carefully edited proposals were now scattered all over the hallway, and only one paper remained clenched- entirely wrinkled- in his fist.

Hazel followed the flustered boy's gaze to the papers scattered across the floor, then looked back at him with an overly cheery, obviously faked smile. "Imagine bumping into you here...No, too soon? Okay." She scrambled to her feet and made quick work of tying her robe closed, sparing a second to run her fingers through her wavy hair. But at this point, she decided, it probably didn't even matter. "Sorry again," she said, crouching to try to gather the papers nearest her, trying not to wrinkle them. "I, ah...was playing a game... These look important. What are they?" she asked. She cast a curious, sheepish glance his way. Hazel was a firm believer in her own whimsy and boisterous charm, but she wasn't quite sure it would help her in the face of this particular situation and this particular person.

Soren smiled back at Jaden. "Haha, yeah I know right?" He laughed, referring to the night shift. "Sure, I'll dry," He began making his way over, when, staying true to his clumsy nature, his foot hit a small puddle of dishwater. He slipped forward, managing to catch himself on the counter before splitting his head open. "Imokay!" he squeaked, springing back up and sheepishly grabbing a towel to get to work on the pile of dishes that Jaden had already washed.

(Hey Red, sorry to be annoying but I think Quinn is still waiting for a reply cx Honestly Hazel is my spirit animal)
Jaden chuckled. "Good job, man." He plunged his hands back into the pool of warm soapy water, retrieving a plate that was lurking at the bottom and grabbed the sponge, beginning to scrub. "What do you think of the Selected girls? I mean, that Ellie one already went home, and it's the first day!" He shook his head slightly before rinsing the plate of the bubbly substance and passing it over to Soren. "It must be a tough job for the Prince though, having to choose a wife."

AH SHOOT SORRY I FORGOT TO REPLY
Juliette finished off her snack quickly, silently watching Giselle for a moment. The guard, with her cold, calculating looks and lack of empathy, not to mention lack of common blinking, tended to make people uncomfortable very quickly. Already sat nearby the selected girl, she flopped on to her back with a light groan. It wasn't comfortable, but it was nice to lay down considering she spent most of her day standing. And these boots weren't nearly comfy enough for that. "So," she began slowly. "Tell me about yourself. I'm curious about the inner working of-" she wagged a finger towards the girl's head, "-that thing, and the origin of all its haughty thoughts."

(Hey Hazel! So Blossom, the girls had tea with the Queen and now Quinn and Gil are having a secret date while Juliette torments Giselle.) Ten years? Quinn thought, breaking into a smile at the thought and leaning against his chest. "Maybe it was because I was pretty much alone. You should take me out there sometime." She said, a breeze blowing her hair in front of her face and she shook her head slightly, causing it to fall away. "And then I might find it comforting." Sorry Sky! My schedule this weekend was weird this isn't good I'm sorry YIKES) "Remind me to make a date in my social calendar to take a day off," Gil joked; chances of actually having a free day were slim with the Selection going on, and even if he got one, there was no way anyone would give him the clearances to leave the grounds until this security nightmare was over. "Believe me, it's fun. And I won't make you look like a tourist. That's one of my biggest pet peeves - but I think you'll fit right in." When Quinn leaned against his chest, he gripped her waist slightly tighter, lapsing into silence.

I'M SO ANGRY I WROTE A REALLY GOOD RESPONSE AND THEN MY SCHOOL LAPTOP WHACKED OUT AND RESTARTED)) "You were playing... A game?" Alexander repeated dumbly, still in a state of dazed shock. He looked down at the wrinkled paper in his hand and then at all the papers mixed up around him. His shock became annoyance as he realized all the reorganizing he'd have to do. Picking himself up off the ground, he fitfully brushed non-existant dust from his suit. "They were proposals for the Report," He huffed, reaching down and yanking the papers from Lady Hazel's hands. "You were playing a 'game'? In the middle of the night?" He crouched and gathered the rest of the papers into a haphazard pile- lest she grab more- before standing up again. "And," Alexander began irritably, but paused when he realized how bothered he sounded. The Crown Prince with red cheeks and knitted eyebrows, going off on a Selected girl, was probably not the best image. "And you shouldn't address me so casually," He finished, indignant.

(Poor Hazel x3 You're good guys)
Quinn giggled, breaking out into a smile as the city shone far away. Realizing it was probably very late, and she had to be up and ready for the Report tomorrow, the Selected girl was realizing how dumb it was to be out this late; but she honestly didn't care, she was happier than she had been in months. "If I fall asleep on the Report tomorrow, you only have yourself to blame!" She teased.
Giselle raised her eyebrow and looked at the guard that was lounging next to her so casually. "Well, I'm an actress." She said, starting on her third finger as she painted it. "My father and my mother were both very famous, so it would make sense that I would to be too." She frowned as she made a small mistake, putting down the polish and picking up some cotton, swiping the blemish away. "I was born here, in Angeles, in the city."

Poor Quinn when Alex actually starts talking to her, I feel like she's going to have a "well I'm screwed" moment)
At mention of the Report, Gil buried his nose in Quinn's hair and groaned. He had to report to the tapings purely because Prince Andrew was to be present, which meant Gil had to tag along. As a little kid he had plenty of fun behind the scenes when his father would sometimes bring him along, but as an adult who had nothing to do in the studio besides stand there for the past two years, it was far from fun. "Maybe we should go inside," he said finally, "I can probably scrap together some lie if someone stops us since my shifts usually end around now. Any later, it might be a little tricky to do so." Gil wasn't a fan of ending their night, not at all, but if this was going to be a thing, their time together would have to get cut short at times. "I'm sorry," he added, half apologizing for cutting their time short together and half for getting her into this situation in the first place.

Soren took the plate from Jaden, nearly dropping it in the process. "Yeah..." he said quietly, grabbing a cloth and starting to dry. "It's gotta be hard to choose just one... they're all so nice." He bit his lower lip in thought. After a few seconds of silence he piped back up. "So what's new with you? Anything interesting happen?"

(Hello, everyone!)
(Ugh, that's frustrating, Astrid. And it always seems to happen on the posts you're most proud of too, doesn't it?!)
"Yes," Hazel started, after he sounded incredulous, twice, that she had been playing a game. "It's something I do for fun," she explained, smiling quirkishly at him. Apparently, the smile and joke didn't go over well, though, because in the next second he was ripping the papers out of her hands. She winced and covered the red paper cut he had given her with her thumb, trying to apply pressure without being too obvious about it. Paper cuts weirded her out, even if they didn't hurt too much, and she didn't want him to think she was trying to make him feel guilty...even though he kind of should, she thought.
His last statement shocked her a little, and her eyebrows rose in response. She quickly ran through everything she had said to him so far in her head. She had addressed him only as "Your Highness," she hadn't said anything inappropriate that she could think of-- But you're just a Five. How would you know what is and is not appropriate to say to a prince? she heard a tiny voice whisper.
The thought made her indignant. She was not going to let this Selection, or anybody in it, make her feel inferior. She was not. Besides, wasn't the point of being here to basically be one of the prince's Sister-Girlfriends? Wasn't the point to become "casual"? Hazel was starting to think that this boy was more rigid than she had thought. She leveled her gaze at him and said, "My apologies, Your Grace." She wanted desperately to add some smart-mouth remark, but didn't. She had few inhibitions, but she would really rather not be thrown gracelessly from the palace for mouthing off when it wasn't totally necessary. "For running into you and for any...impropriety." Excuse me for treating you like a regular person instead of some self-proclaimed god, O Holy One.
(HA! I crack myself up!)

Juliette listened attentively. She liked to understand how people worked, and why they worked the way that they worked. It was easier to push someone's buttons that way. And in a life or death situation, knowing how to distract someone might save your life. So she had learned. "What was your childhood like? Were your parents around much? Were you rude? Have you changed? Do you have regrets?"

(I really really wanted Hazel to say that out loud. Please. XD Yeeaaahhh Quinn is gonna have some trouble with that)
"It's okay, one of us needs to be the adult here." Quinn laughed, reaching her hand back and gently putting it behind Gil's head, turning around and giving him a small kiss again before stepping back, moving her hand down to his and holding it. "Come on, if anyone sees us, we can say I got lost." She grinned. "I'm a blonde, so they'll fall for the dumb girl attitude."
Giselle finished up the last hand, but it still needed to dry so she turned to face Juliette, suspicion in her eyes. "I had a decent childhood." She said simply, not one to open up past her spiky, sassy exterior. "My parents were home when they could be." She thought cautiously about what she was going to say before continuing, "I have changed, obviously. Haven't you since you were a child?"

[ literally call me whatever tbh ]
Juliette grinned a very coy grin. "So what you're saying is that yes, your parents weren't around enough. Beautiful actress with a tragic backstory; that would sell well, you know." Seeing as she was being paid some actual mind, she sat up, staring at Giselle. "I had never killed anyone before the age of fifteen, so I suppose you could say I've changed. I live in a castle now. So that's... Admittedly different." She could remember her first nights here, being surprisingly intimidated by the size of the place, and the grandeur which she was so unfamiliar with.

Gil frowned when she pulled away, missing the warmth her body had provided. He simply nodded along to her story as they entered the disused room, stopping to shut the window to the balcony, never letting go of Quinn's hand. "I really wish we didn't have to go back down," he sighed, looking over at her, almost tripping over the large couch that overlooked the balcony. Sheepishly he ducked his head, embarrassed she almost saw him completely wipeout on something so obviously in his way, as he kept walking to the door to the hallway, where he hesitated, not wanting to leave.

Alexander stared at her for a minute before frowning. "Its- Well, it's not fine. I'm going to have to reorganize all of these documents," He told her, attempting to shuffle the papers into a somewhat neat stack. Does she even know how long this took? No, she doesn't. She's just a five. Or was just a five, at least. He groaned and ran a hand through his hair, though that messed it up even more. A night of tediously sorting the documents into their original order awaited him. Alexander took a deep breath. "What sort of 'game' requires you to crash blindly through the halls of a palace?" And... didn't the Selected have responsibilities as well? Surely between the palace and their duties, the girls weren't that bored. Perhaps Alexander would have to entertain them all the time after all, if only to keep the girls from destroying his house.

(HAHAHAHA! It's like he thinks they're a bunch of untrained puppies!)
Hazel had the grace too look a bit sheepish at having ruined the order of his papers. "I could help, if you would like," she offered, knowing even as she did so that she would be refused. "And the game--well, it wasn't a completely blind dash. So far, you're the only person I've seen walk around the corner." She shrugged. "I figured, even if someone did, it's a wide hall. You must have impeccable timing, Your Highness, to turn right when you did and right where you did." She couldn't help being amused. Really, what were the odds?
And she had finished her homework awhile ago, thank you very much. It was only the first week. Their instructor was only covering the easy stuff right now, and Hazel was a clever girl. Or clever enough, anyway.

(Plot twist when giselle and juliette eventually become friends. lol no the apocalypse would have to happen before that)
Giselle rolled her eyes as Juliette said that her "tragic backstory" would sell. She got along just fine, plus, her maids were always kinder than her father, and she was ashamed to admit that she would rather see them than him. As the guard then went to mention killing people she looked at her, more interested now. "I guess a castle is a bit different than a house." She said, wondering if she should ask about the... you know, killing people at 15 years old part.
Quinn looked back and held back a laugh, although she trembled doing so. "That was.. graceful." Her voice cracked into a giggle but she tried to suppress it for his sake. "I don't want to go down either... We should try and meet here more though, okay?" She gave a small smile, squeezing his hand. "Come on, it's..." She glanced at the clock. "Almost midnight."

Juliette was going to consider this conversation a win in her favor. Several quips, and Giselle had yet to stomp away in a huff. Her brow raised, and she couldn't help the following smile. It was an incredulous expression. "My dear, dear, ignorant two... That implies that I ever lived in a house." She snickered softly, shaking her head. The statement seemed ridiculous to her. "I never lived in a house. I was lucky if I could live in an apartment that looked like it would fall apart with one misstep. So imagine my fascination at living in a damned castle. Not everyone has the luck to be born like you."

I love Alexander he's just like... bad dog, no running in the hallways [squirts Hazel with spray bottle]))
Alexander felt a bit sheepish when he remembered that he hadn't actually been looking where he was going when he'd turned the corner. But still- it was his own home! He shouldn't have to keep an eye out for... sliding objects. "I don't need your help. And you really shouldn't be running around in your nightwear," He said somewhat awkwardly. He was calmer now, but still annoyed. And slightly embarrassed. "Do you need a... guard or someone to help you back to your room?"

(Hahaha! You're funny, Astrid. The Holly is amused.)
"Of course you don't," Hazel answered, though whether the remark was sarcasm or aquiescance, it was difficult even for her to say. A slightly repressed grin bloomed on her face again. Nightwear, really? And how funnily sad, that the first man to ever see her in her nightgown--indeed, the very man who she was supposed to be hoping was the only man to see her in her nightgown--was less than uninterested. The thought almost made her laugh, but she pulled her robe tighter in a show of decorum. It wasn't proper, she supposed, and she didn't want to embarrass the poor boy, even if her robe was modest. She smiled and shook her head. "No, thank you, sir." She stepped aside so he could get by.

Giselle nodded subtly and returned to putting her nail accessories back into the small, light pink bag that was decorated with flowers and zipping it up. "I was born lucky, I guess." She said simply, checking the clock on the wall and blinking in surprise at how late it had gotten. "I suppose living in this 'damned castle' would be quite a change for you." If the 'you' was scornful or not, she had a hard time deciding, but let Juliette interpret it as she may.

Gil, with his hand on the doorknob, tried to look annoyed with Quinn's laughter, but he easily broke. He shook his head, a whisper of a smile on his face, and bent to give the close girl a quick kiss before pulling back and opening the door to the mostly empty hallway. Gil released his grip on her hand to offer her his arm, a polite gesture that wouldn't be looked twice at, given Quinn's temporary elevated status. "C'mon, then. Hopefully we don't run into anyone important." He was sure any passing maid or guard would let them pass without question, but if any high ranking advisors and the LIKE were still milling about, they'd definitely stop them. But, Quinn's getting-lost excuse was solid enough this early into the Selection.

Juliette didn't even blink at that. "Yes. It is. Which I just said. If that was an attempt to insult me, it was a very poor one." She squinted at the girl. She was a lot smarter than Juliette had originally assumed her to be. She was careful about what she said. It was actually quite intriguing. And now, she couldn't help it. The guard wanted to get at least a little of a rise out of the selected. "You know, you've only threatened me once, this entire time. Could you possibly be warming up to me? The scary, annoying, guard?"
