|| Taya ||
Taya grinned when Amalthea agreed to the trip to Hogsmeade. They hardly got to go there together anymore - it wasn't like in Taya's third year when they could go whenever they wanted to, now there was little to no time. Sure, when Amalthea was really busy Taya could go by herself, but doing that snatched the fun right out of it. It almost made her wish she had more friends in her own year. Maybe this year would be the year where she actually gathered up some other friends from somewhere. After all, next year Amalthea wouldn't even be here for her to talk to at all.
As her excitement whirled around inside her, Taya thought about where they could visit in Hogsmeade. She really needed a new quill, so visiting Scrivenshafts Quill Shop would be useful, and she knew that Amalthea would want to go to Tomes and Scrolls, and in fact, Taya had been meaning to purchase a book on the Pegasus - as she wanted to learn as much as possible about the beautiful creatures, especially as she wanted to work with them in the future. Oh, and they could visit the Three Broomsticks, and get themselves a butterbeer. It had been so long since Taya had tasted the drink...
''Eleanor's good,'' Taya said, in reply to Amalthea's question, ''she's been happier going back to muggle school than she usually is when I leave, actually. She keeps going on about this boy she likes. But, as you know, she's always been a romantic, even when she was barely ten years old. She's made a couple of close friends, too. They seem nice.'' "Oh, well that's good. It's good that she's making friends at muggle school. It's interesting that she seems to be less bothered about going to muggle school this year. Do you think she's maybe letting go of the prospect of being a witch? Think she's finally accepted it?" Amalthea replied Maybe Eleanor was finally letting things go a little bit, maybe she'd accepted that she was a muggle and so she'd never get to be a part of Amalthea and Taya's world. Amalthea remembered how devastated Eleanor had been when she didn't get her letter, and how upset Taya had been that her sister would not be able to join her at Hogwarts, that her little sister wasn't even a Squib, but a muggle. It hadn't been a good first term that year, Amalthea remembered. She'd hated it, because Taya hadn't wanted to do anything and the only person shy Amalthea had been able to rely on in terms of giving her company wasn't actually up to doing anything. Well, it was good that Eleanor was moving on, certainly. She couldn't be miserable about not being magical forever, could she? She'd have had to move on eventually. Better she do it now rather than later.

Lol Ryker didn't go anywhere, though that would be him XD)
Ryker just shook his head. "Think whatever you must, it will make no difference to me." He said as he grabbed another pasty, before looking at the two boys behind Kaitlyn, Ned and Nate. He gave them a satisfied grin, and a sharp, yet mysterious look with his piercing blue eyes.
Nate rolled his eyes at Ryker before turning back to his food, grabbing a very large chicken leg in one hand, and a spoon for his mashed potatoes in another, alternating between bites, only taking a break to either A. Grab a drink of his Pumpkin Juice, or B. Help himself to another chicken leg.

((thats what i get for reading wrong //flies into the sun//))
Kaitlyn shrugged, continuing to pop grapes in her mouth one at a time. They were green champagne grapes, and she idly wondered if the color was chosen on purpose for their table.
The food was rapidly disappearing from the surrounding platters, and if Kaitlyn had to guess, the feast was swiftly drawing to a close. Only a matter of time before McGonagall made her announcements and dismissed the students to their waiting beds. For a moment, Kaitlyn was overcome by exhaustion. It'd been a long day, and the image of her four-poster with sheets warmed by house elves was incredibly tempting. Briefly, she closed her eyes and propped her chin on her hand. The exchange with Ryker had tired her. I'm out of practice.
"I look forward to it, McAllister," she murmured, eyes still closed. The comment was a delayed one, but Kaitlyn didn't care much. A few stray curls, previously tucked up behind her head, fell loose to frame her face.
- - [ ] - -
Ned met the icy blue eyes with a stare of his own. He was a Gryffindor-- not intimidated by a rude look. Takes more than that to make me quake in my boots, he thought stubbornly. He held the stare for a few more seconds, then winked cheekily and turned back to his food.
Prefect duties had given him the pleasure of dealing with Ryker on a few occasions. Never anything particularly troublesome or worthy worrying over, usually cases of suspicious activity. But they'd never really had a normal conversation. Looking at the slicked-back hair, cold gaze, and sneer, Ned was sure he never wanted to.
If what Nate said was true, then Kaitlyn was in danger come the duel. Yeah, she was a resourceful kid, and he was certain she could give Ryker a run for his money at least for a while. But she was also incredibly proud and was incapable or turning down a challenge. There's no way she would ever yield to a winner.
Ned tried to shake his mind of such gloomy thoughts and focus on finishing his plate. He'd talk to Kaitlyn later. "Have you seen our class schedules yet?" he asked Nate.

"Mmm, the last steps are exactly the same as the hearing potion on page 322. It's almost like a game, or a puzzle, having to mix and match the potions together." Tori told Micah, grabbing a drumstick when she noticed the food was beginning to disappear. She grabbed a few sweets as well, not wanting to go to bed hungry. She frowned momentarily, noting Kaitlyn talking with two Slytherin boys- well, more like arguing with them actually. She shook her head, wondering what kind of trouble she was getting into this time. "I'll have to talk to her later." She murmured to herself, before returning her sharp gaze to Micah, knowing she was still in a conversation with him. She would go and grab Kaitlyn when they where dismissed. (-plays ten duel commandments- I feel like tori would want to be her second lol) --- Quinn had been sitting quietly next to Ned, listening to them talk about something called Quidditch and then something about a girl and then classes. She frowned, picking at some oranges a little nervously. "Umm, excuse me? What's Quidditch?" She asked, voice a little softer and than usual, wanting to make a good impression on the older students.

Micah
So...he mixed that around in his head, adjusted where he needed to, and nodded thoughtfully. If he noticed the food was disappearing, he didn't say anything; though he didn't eat anything, either. He'd nibbled at the pasty and had given up, too nervous to be able to stomach anything.
"Okay," he said lightly, "thank you for helping me."

At this exchange, Ned's lips quirked with amusement. "Calm down, Nate. It's not as scandalous as it might seem." Quidditch was practically his friend's religion. He ate, slept, and breathed the sport in every moment of his life. Or so it always seemed to Ned.
He offered the girl a soft smile. "Quinn, right? Are you muggleborn by any chance?"
- - [ ] - -
Kaitlyn blinked her eyes open. With no end in sight of the feast, and little camaraderie, she was in danger of falling asleep right there on the Slytherin table. Guess I'll have to seek out entertainment. Kaitlyn was just about done with her fellow housemates; either they were the annoying pricks to her left, or the insufferable third years to her right. The girl was still talking about her vacation experiences.
"Screw the rules," she muttered under her breath. She stood up, head and shoulders above her seated classmates, and swung her legs over the bench. Kaitlyn made her way over to the table under a banner of red and gold. She was well aware of the growing number of eyes watching her, but once more, she'd never been one to care about others thoughts. This daring maneuver was hardly any different, even if it was a bit out of character for her. The prat must still be influencing her.
Kaitlyn spotted a familiar blonde pixie-cut and tapped the person on the shoulder. "Hey friend," she teased.
((Well, they do say Slytherins have a certain disregard for the rules lol))

[Hehe, they do XD And just so you know, Ingrid's a Gryffindor, not a Ravenclaw, but I understand why you'd make that mistake since Amalthea's a Ravenclaw ] Ingrid had been studiously ignoring her fellow Gryffindors when she heard a familiar voice and turned to see a familiar face. Smiling, the fifteen-year-old shifted to make room for the Slytherin student, shooting glares to silence any students who looked like they were going to complain about them sitting together. "Hey, Kaitlyn" Ingrid replied with a smile "got fed up of Slytherin, did you?" It was always good to have a friend around, Ingrid knew. Well, some said it was good because friends kept mischievous students like Ingrid out of trouble. It had turned out the opposite, actually, as Ingrid and Kaitlyn ended up simply amplifying the mischievousness and trouble-making of each other. The teachers had unsuccessfully tried to separate the two a few times, something which Ingrid and Kaitlyn found amusing more than anything else, to be honest. Ingrid was more than ready for a new year at Hogwarts, ready to break a few rules and have a little fun. After all, what else was school for, if not for having fun? That was the way Ingrid saw it. Her sister, Amalthea, didn't see it that way. But Amalthea wasn't watching her, was she, so Ingrid could do whatever she wanted.

((I think i have reading comprehension issues T_T gonna edit that))
A wave of sympathy rolled over Ned. What kind of wizard hid who he was from his own children? It didn't strike him as a particularly fair way to raise them. "This must be tough for you, then," he said gently. "I'm a half-blood, like you, but our family are all magical. I've always wondered what it would be like to live as a muggle, only to find out that you're different."
He was getting melodramatic. "But you're here now," he added cheerily. "It might be overwhelming at first, but in some ways I'm envious. You'll get to discover the magical world."
- - [ ] - -
The first genuine grin since the feast started spread on Kaitlyn's face. "Yeah, they're being moody today. For the best house in Hogwarts, there's some real losers in there!" She settled into the spot made for her, helping herself to some of the Gryffindor's mysterious orange pudding. It wasn't quite as good as the Slytherin's. Still superb, though.
Kaitlyn could feel Ned's eyes boring into her from up the table. She stubbornly ignored it. Yeah, he definitely didn't agree with this bold moves of hers. It was usually excusable during casual meals, like breakfast and lunch, but when it came to the feasts and dinners students were expected to sit with their own housemates. Just another disappointment to add to Ned's growing list.
"How's it shaken?" she asked her friend. They'd spoken on the train, of course, but sometimes stuff happened between then and the feast. For Kaitlyn, anyways.

"Oh wow, but your still lucky, though. At least you know all of the customs and stuff, and whatever Quidditch is. It seems pretty important here." Quinn commented absentmindedly, picking at what looked like a yellow cake. She glanced around at the other Gryffindors, frowning slightly at the Slytherin who went over and sat at their table. She hadn't realized that they where allowed to sit at other peoples tables. -- "Yeah, of course. Just let me know if you have any questions. Sometimes potions can get a little tricky, and I have a few revisions to make them more potent, you don't need help, I doubt, but still, feel free to ask." She responded with a smile, watching as Kaitlyn walked over to Ingrid. For a moment she felt the urge to walk over and sit with the other two, but was unsure if it would be welcomed so she remained at the Ravenclaw table.

Ned gave a small laugh. "Quidditch is the most popular wizarding sport. It's as big as football to the muggles. There's three balls, you see: the quaffle, which is like the main ball, the snitch, and bludgers. It's played in the air on broomsticks. I could show you sometime, if you'd like! The rules of the game are fairly simple, you'll pick it up quickly--"
He stopped short, attention snatched by a peculiar movement down the Gryffindor table. A badge of emerald and silver stood out amongst the sea of crimson gold. There Kaitlyn sat, pretty as you please, at the opposite house's table. What is she doing? First she gets herself challenged to a duel, and now here she was making a scene. Ned wondered, not for the first time, if she had attention issues. Maybe it was a youngest child thing.

"Best house in Hogwarts?" Ingrid laughed incredulously "Hate to burst your bubble, Kaitlyn, but I'm afraid your wrong. Gryffindor is clearly the best" she teased with a mischievous smile.
When her friend asked how things were going, she shrugged "Same old, really. Trying to think up something fun for us to do. To shake things up a bit, you know? Liven stuff up? Everyone looks miserable to be back. We ought to lighten to mood a little"
Ingrid was eager to do the first prank of the year, but she was struggling to come up with something the legendary Weasley twins hadn't pulled off years before, so she hoped that Kaitlyn had some insight to offer.

|| Taya ||
''Yeah, well, at least I think she has,'' Taya said, giving a slight shrug, ''it's not like she doesn't like her school. Her school is really nice and big - and most people are friendly there. Of course there's still those few mean kids, but you get them everywhere, even Hogwarts. The school gets good grades and the kids are okay, though.''
When Eleanor had been distraught about the fact that she wouldn't be accompanying her elder sister at Hogwarts, her Mother had decided to find a decent school for her daughter, instead of sending her to the school ten-minutes away, which didn't have a very high reputation at all. It was the least she could do. Anyway, now, Eleanor barely mentioned the fact that she would much rather be a witch. She was finally beginning to settle in at her school, as she was going into year nine. That wouldn't stop Taya sending her all the magical candy she could afford, though.
Taya had eaten everything she had piled upon her plate at the Hufflepuff table, before joining Amalthea, but it was the great feast, and this didn't happen often. She might as well eat some more. The Hufflepuff reached over and grabbed herself a pumpkin pasty, as well as filling herself another glass of pumpkin juice. She tried to ignore the stares she recieved from the other Ravenclaws. They were right to be surprised, really. Taya probably didn't strike them as the rule breaker sort of kid, but sitting on another table wasn't the worst rule she could break at all. She just wanted to join her friend.
The sixth year finished a mouthful of pumpkin pasty and turned back to her friend. ''When d'you think they'll dismiss us?'' she asked, noticing that this feast seemed to be going on much longer than usual. Of course, the evening dinner was fabulous, but her eyes drooped at the thought of curling up in her warm bed, with her yellow and black curtains. She still needed to unpack, too.

I'm glad that she's settling in" She watched as her friend helped herself to some of the food, and saw the looks her fellow Ravenclaws were shooting at Taya. Well, that was rude of them. But, so long as Taya was with Amalthea, the prefect was fairly certain that she wouldn't be getting into any trouble. The teachers loved Amalthea, and a lot of them loved Taya as well. The blonde could see that her friend was getting tired, though, and her suspicions were confirmed when she asked when they would be dismissed. Amalthea couldn't blame her, to be honest - she was tired too from the long train journey and a packed evening of social interaction. She was way too introverted to be a prefect, the seventh-year couldn't help but think. "I don't know," she replied with a shrug "It is dragging on a bit, isn't it?" That was when she caught sight of Ingrid and Kaitlyn at the Gryffindor table "Oh no," Amalthea said with a sigh "Ingrid's with Kaitlyn. They'll be working out how to explode the school, I would imagine"

"Before you get too eager," Ned interjected, seeing the light of eagerness reappear in Quinn's eyes, "First years technically aren't allowed to play on the Qudditch team. You have to have a broom, and they strictly ban the first-years from bringing any." He took a sip of water. "But don't worry, there'll be a flying class. It's required."
He thought back to his own first year. Having grown up on Quidditch, Ned had been zealous about getting a spot on the Gryffindor house team at Hogwarts. No matter how he begged, no exception was made for him. The memory of begging Professor Longbottom brought a small smile to his face.

"Right. About that." Kaitlyn set down her fork of orange pudding. "I may or may not have been challenged to a duel."
Never too early in the year for drama to be stirred.

[No idea why the words 'Professor Longbottom' brought my heart so much joy but my heart exploded]
Ingrid, who had been in the act of reaching out to grab more food, froze at her friend's statement.
"Are you serious?" she said incredulously, already sounding incredibly excited "Wow, when did that happen? Who challenged you? Can I help? Oh my God so many questions. Just spill the beans"

Taya smirked when Amalthea sighed and mentioned how Ingrid was talking to Kaitlyn. She knew how different the fifteen-year-old was to her seventh year sister. She was much more confident and rebellious for a start, always the kid to get into trouble. Amalthea...not so much. Taya knew her friend - and she was way too introverted and too much of a teachers pet to get in trouble.
''We'd better leave the building,'' she joked, ''don't wanna get caught up in the flames.''
Taya glanced over at Kaitlyn and Ingrid, and briefly wondered what they were actually talking about. She didn't understand confident people, and made sure she avoided them as much as possible. They were too intimidating for her liking, if she was completely honest.

I think we're in real trouble - whatever it is they're doing, it just got Ingrid so fascinated she stopped reaching for the food. That's a bad sign. Anything that distracts Ingrid from food is a bad sign" That meant that she was passionate about whatever they were discussing. After animated discussions like this generally came explosions, switching ingredients in the poetry classes, letting various magical creatures loose, and other such things. Oh goody, something else for Amalthea to get judged on behalf of her sister for.

Kaitlyn smirked. "Slow down, mate."
Ingrid was a special sort of friend. They simultaneously reflected each other's virtues and vices with equal credibility, bouncing off one another like parallel springboards. When they were together, they were the duo you had to look out for. Ingrid was more excitable than her, and much more into acts of mischief. Kaitlyn was a little more collected, but also into messing people (albeit in a different way). It was usually Ingrid who got them into trouble, while Kaitlyn covered their backs. Woe be to anyone who got in the way of these two girls.
She was glad that her Gryffindor friend was so impassioned by the suggestion of a duel. Unfortunately, Kaitlyn was starting to see the problematic nature of it. "You know that jerk Ryker McAllister?" she asked in a lower voice. The students around them continued with their conversations, unaware.
