[ look @ me w my rp post even if its just to sort micah ] Micah
If there was one thing to be said, it was that the Sorting process seemed...terrifying. Having a hat talk to you, having it tell you what you were like? He couldn't hear quite what it said to the people, but could certainly hear it shout out Houses. Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff. Gryffindor. Slytherin. The line went on and on, and he swallowed nervously. He wasn't as his name here but it didn't matter, he'd make sure it was known and such.
"Ruiz, Luciana."
He grimaced at the name, pushed lightly and noticed a couple of looks from other first years, but pointedly ignored them. His heart was pounding in his chest, but he said nothing. Instead, he sat and accepted the hat, frowning a little.
"It's Micah, actually," he said, so quietly that he was certain only the hat could hear. He heard it hum softly.
"Well, Micah!" it said this louder, and he felt his heard skip a beat. Was it helping him? It seemed to be helping him, and he felt some relief as he sunk down. It then lowered its voice, as if only choosing to speak to him about its decision. This made sense. "You'd make a fine Slytherin, but you don't have that sort of air...is that eidetic memory? You'll certainly do well...you are more intelligent than you think, and you'll go far in life," it paused, then announced its decision to the room. "Ravenclaw!"
Perhaps he was vaguely disappointed that it hadn't chosen him as Slytherin, but then again; he could remember how the book he'd bought about Hogwarts Houses had preached about it being mainly for purebloods, how it was one of the only houses that didn't actively accept muggleborns. Talking to Luke on the train, however, had brought his hopes up; but he swallowed it down and moved to the Ravenclaw table, sitting quietly and lowering his gaze to his hands, now neatly situated in his lap. It was done, he was sorted, and he wasn't a Hufflepuff. Sure, sure, they sounded great and all, but he was pretty sure he would've done poorly there. Ravenclaw...yeah, that was fine.

Quinn gave her new friend a wave, feeling a pang of panic when the girl left her side. She zoned out as the other names where called, caught up in her own wave of emotions, still terrified that she didn't belong here. Sure, the girl- who she just found out was sorted into Slytherin- was nice enough, and they seemed to hit it off, but that was just one person. What if the rest of the school actually did care about her being a half blood? She might as well of had both non magic parents, her dad never taught her a thing about magic when she was around. He just acted normal.
"Goodrich, Quincy," the blond haired girl jumped a little, heart going into her throat and she felt herself unable to breath. She glanced around at the other first years, before swallowing and tilting her chin up, wanting to look tough infront of all of these people. The small girl- she really looked more like a nine year old than an almost twelve year old- marched up and sat down, forcing herself not to flinch as the hat was placed on her head.
Well well well, what do we have here, Quincy? The girl tried her best not to look terrified as the voice spoke into her ear, a chill running down her back. Looks like we have someone who's a bit ambitious,eh? You'd make a fine Slytherin you know. Immediately she felt her heart sink- its not that these Slytherins were bad people, it was just the thought of not being a Pureblood and being in that house sounded horrible. Uh-uh-uh, you didn't let me finish. However, you have a loyalty and bravery about you that wouldn't quite sit right with that fine house... I see you have gotten in many a fights, She winced, uncomfortable that the hat could read her mind. I think that you would do incredibly well in... "GRYFFINDOR" The hat shouted out, and the girl felt a wave of relief, a grin plastered crossed her face. She made her way to the Gryffindor table, all of a sudden unsure when she got there, not knowing where to sit.
--- Tori let out a shout of welcome when the boy- Micah- was chosen and scooted over to make room for him. "Welcome to the best house in Hogwarts," She told him, hair tips turning a pumpkin orange as she offered him a pastry. She was happy that they had gotten a few first years, sometimes the house was fairly... Small. Last year a good portion of the students had gone to Gryffindor, and the year before Hufflepuff. It was time that Ravenclaw got a good chunk of first years. --- Icarus gave Mica a friendly grin, biting down on some type of food that he wasn't paying attention to eating, too engrossed in seeing who was going to be a Ravenclaw, and what the other first years where like.

Micah
Glancing up to the girl, he watched quietly as her hair changed, but decided not to say anything. He'd probably see weirder soon, so it wasn't as if it mattered. With some delicacy, he took the pastry and looked down at it with a raised eyebrow. Okay, well. He wasn't particularly hungry at the moment and he was confident that he'd miss his mother's cooking, but he supposed he could take this. It would be impolite to reject it.
"Oh," he said softly, "thank you?"
It was phrased more as a question because, honestly, he wasn't sure that this was the best house. Was he supposed to be patriotic towards his house? That seemed like a normal thing, but honestly, he didn't particularly want to be. He just wanted to have a semi-decent time at school. Thoughtfully, he bit into his pastry, and then squinted.
"Is...is this pumpkin?" he asked, sounding rather doubtful. Why would they make pumpkin pasties? That just wasn't right.

( Me too! Icarus is open for anyone in ravenclaw! And Quinn is open for a gryffindor!)
Tori shrugged, grabbing one of her own and taking a suspicious bite of it. She wrinkled her nose momentarily, before nodding. "Yeah, that seems like it. Not the best pastry, sorry about that. If you sprinkle some cinnamon on it, its not so bad though." She added helpfully, sprinkling some cinnamon onto her own before eating the rest of it. "Look, I know Ravenclaw isn't the most exciting house out there, Gryffindor and Slytherin always get the credit, but ours is pretty cool. We one the Quidditch cup last year, and theres always things to do to challenge your mind in the commons," She continued, seeing the boys hesitancy.

[ i have everyone except micah open the only one not open for possibly established friendships is uhh. zacharie. paxton & cyrus can't have close friendships already establised but they can have friends? ja ] Micah
Not particularly fond of the idea of putting cinnamon with pumpkin (really; cinnamon was a perfectly good spice, and pumpkin was not very nice at all), Micah set his pasty on the plate in front of him and returned his delicate hands to his lap, looking back down and exhaling slowly. He raised a single eyebrow, still staring fixedly downwards.
"That's not what I was thinking, actually," he said in a very soft voice, risking a glance up before curling his fingers against the fabric of his robes and ducking his head a little lower. "Please do not, um..."
He trailed off anyway, because he realised that what he was going to say would've been rude. It was probably not a good idea to annoy older members of his house, and so he looked down at his hands once more as if they were the most interesting thing, and did not finish his thoughts.

[[ sure!! ]] || Taya ||
As the sorting came to an end, the Hufflepuff finished off the food she had put upon her plate at the beginning of the sorting, and had been quietly eating throughout the boring process. Well, that was a lie - some of the sorting was fun, and it was great when a brand new Hufflepuff joined the table. But now she was drowsy, and wanted to drift off to sleep. However, she wanted to seek out Amalthea first. Usually, she'd see her on the train or the carriages, but it had been quite busy (as usual) and amongst all the other students it had seemed that Taya couldn't find her this time. It didn't matter, though, she'd find her now, it wouldn't be long until everyone was dismissed to bed, anyway.
Awkwardly, Taya left the table, heading towards the Ravenclaw one. Oh no. She hated accusing eyes staring at her, and even though it wasn't exactly intimidation shining within the optics of the Ravenclaws, Taya still felt herself shrivel up inside. Scanning her eyes through each person, they finally rested on Amalthea. Delightfully, Taya made her way over, beaming. Amalthea was one of the only people that Taya could talk to. Like, actually talk to, without wanting to curl up into a tiny ball in a dark corner. She didn't have to be her usual, shy self in front of the Ravenclaw, who happened to be one year older and, Taya realized with a pang, was in her final year at the school. ''Hey,'' the sixth-year said, ''I hope you didn't forget me, I've been waiting to talk to you all day so far.'' She poked her friend on the shoulder in mock-accusation, still smiling.

The sorting ceremony never failed to fill Kaitlyn with anxious excitement. Memories flooded her mind of her own experience on that rickety stool, a ratty hat jammed on her head to whisper in her ear. The hat knew almost instantly. Kaitlyn supposed it was a fairly obvious choice: ambition, leadership qualities, and resourcefulness all being prominent personality traits.
Still, it had been a shock at the time. Nobody in her family had been expecting it. Ned was convinced she would be a Gryffindor, just as their mother had been. After all, she did carry a certain sense of strict loyalty to those close in her life. Her often wondered aloud as to her possibility of being a Ravenclaw-- personally, that had been Kaitlyn's expectations. She adored her father immensely and hoped to be as reputable when she was his age.
In hindsight, she supposed the traits were attributed. It was not Gryffindor loyalty that she felt so strongly, but Slytherin fraternity. Kaitlyn had always bonded quickly with those she could relate to. It wasn't a thirst for knowledge that she craved, but rather ambition to reach for the stars. Simply being academically gifted did not make one a Ravenclaw.
The subject was a sore one with her family following her sorting. Despite the triumph of the Second Wizarding War, house rivalries and prejudices remained. Kaitlyn always imagined it like a room that had stood the same for centuries, only for furniture to be moved about: but the faded markings of their silhouettes remained. She was distraught at her house placement, and her brother was concerned what it might mean. There hadn't been a Slytherin in the family for generations. She had cried every night of her first week. It wasn't so much Slytherin's reputation so much as a feeling of not belonging.
But as time went on, Kaitlyn grew to recognize the distinctly Slytherin qualities that made her who she was. Now she couldn't imagine being in any other house.
Kaitlyn beamed at Tia as she joined an empty spot at the Slytherin table. "Welcome to the best house," she greeted with what she hoped was a pleasant smile. "But I'm sure your brother has already taught you plenty on that," she added, glancing at Luke.

Over at the Gryffindor table, Ned was nearly falling asleep. Sure, he liked sorting ceremonies and all, but they did tend to drag on. An impossible large boat of gravy sat before his eyes, chin resting on his hands, and he absently wondered how the students were expected to lift it. It looked about thirteen kilograms.
"Gryffindor!"
Ned's head snapped up when he heard his house called. About time, really. Six students had gone and only one had been Gryffindor. Looking up from his intense blinking contest with the gravy boat, he turned to welcome the new kid with a warm smile. "Congradulations!"
The first-year looked like she could be two years younger than she must be, with nervous eyes but a happy grin plastered on her child-like face. Always nice to have enthusiasts, he thought.

Tori "Oh, no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make any assumptions, its just, I've heard a lot of first years who complain about being in Ravenclaw," She explained quickly, hair turning a pale pink as she felt a wave of embarrassment run over her. Great. You even annoy the first years. Guess this isn't the year to make friends in my house. She thought bitterly, before turning away quickly, deciding it would be best to stop talking to anyone at this time. She grabbed a steak from one of the piles, poking at it nervously, hoping he would like it in Ravenclaw. --- "Thanks!" Quinn responded to the boy with a grin, feeling someone else clap on her on the shoulders. She couldn't help but feel relieved that she was in such a friendly house, not knowing what she would have done if she ended up in Slytherin. She brushed some hair out of her face, looking around excitedly at all of the new faces. She saw a number of first years, so it was nice seeing that she wasn't the only one.

Micah
Great. He'd upset her. Awesome, because that was just what he was great at doing. He faltered momentarily as he tried not to lean his elbow on the table (his brain reminded him of his mother's lectures), and then he sighed softly and looked down. Micah shifted his weight uncomfortably and shook his head.
"It's whatever," he said quietly, though he didn't particularly enjoy being likened to other Ravenclaw first years. From the couple he'd seen already, they seemed almost snobbish, as if this house truly was better than the others. It felt like the sort of mindset that just caused rivalries and problems and he didn't particularly enjoy the atmosphere it set.
