((Sweet! I have no idea where y'all are right now besides just arriving at Hogwarts, so...I'm just gonna have my characters entering the Great Hall ¯\_(ツ)_/¯))
The whispers of newly-arrived students echoed around the cold stone walls, accompanied by the muffling sound of hundreds of footsteps. The first years would be arriving any second from their trip across the lake. For now, the other students would be making their way into the Great Hall to await the sorting ceremony.
Kaitlyn pulled her robe a little more snugly around her frame. It was only September, but Hogwarts was nothing more than a drafty castle. A perpetual chill hung in the air, from her previous four years of experience. Not too far ahead, she could see her brother and his friends pushing the great wooden doors open to be the first into the Hall. "I'm starving," she complained to the student walking beside her.
((Feel free to claim friendship with my characters, btw. It'd be less awkward since they've both been going to Hogwarts for quite some time and would already have some established friends.))

(ooh Kaitlyn and Tori might make good friends ^^ She's a year older and a ravenclaw, but they might be friend material ^^)
"That's 'cuz your always hungry," Tori quipped, happy to have found a friendly face. Sure the girl was a year behind her, and sure she was a Slytherin, but houses never really bothered Tori much, and neither did grades. If she could ever find anyone to match her, she didn't hesitate to make friends with them. Of course, she was a bit on the awkward side so "making friends" was more like awkwardly trying to make small talk for a week before finding common ground (have you ever seen that picture of how adults make friends? The one where the person just walks up and handcuffs themselves to another person? and says "lets hang out?" Yeah. Thats Tori with new people.) She ran a hand through her pixie cut- the tips currently dark blue with bronze at the very end- already wanting to get the festivities over with. She glanced at the Slytherin girl, offering her a smirk, showing her that she was teasing. ---- "Well, thats weird, but to each his own I guess," Quinn responded, following the crowd into the ginormous castle. She stopped for a moment, eyes wide as she looked at the thing that she would have to start calling home. Its so big. How are we going to find our classes? She thought in horror, before walking faster to catch up with the girl she had been talking too. She shifted, uncomfortable in the swaying robes. wondering if she would ever get used to them.

Kaitlyn rolled her eyes in response. "Hey, the last thing I had to eat was a bit of candy on the train," she protested indignantly. Then a small smile grew on her face as she caught sight of the tables, loaded with every kind of food imaginable. "But you're not wrong."
- - [ ] - -
Whooping with delight, Ned broke away from his group of friends and made a rush for the front of the Gryffindor table. He settled into the foremost seat, giving his inter-house friends a little wave to say See you later. During other meals they might have been allowed to sit together, but at the opening feast, the rules were strict: only Gryffindors at the Gryffindor table.
As other students settled in, he caught his sister's eye. Looked like Kaitlyn was hanging around Tori again. Kaitlyn looked away quickly, but Ned didn't miss the slight furrow of her brow.
Ned didn't quite understand that friendship. Sure, Tori was a nice girl. But she was exceedingly awkward to be around. Every conversation he'd ever had with her was stunted and left him wanting to escape immediately. She was in his year, but they'd never really spoken until she started to hang out with Kaitlyn.
He shook his head roughly. It didn't matter that much-- yeah they might not be exactly comfortable around each other, but Tori was a good enough kid. Ned turned his head back to the food and fellow housemates. "Now if only those damn first-years could get a move on," he murmured under his breath.

(rip poor Tori XD) "And who's fault is that? You could have grabbed some food and brought it on the train," She admonished, poking at her friend, taking her time as they made their ways to their respective tables. She was hesitant on going over to the Ravenclaw table- unsure who she would be able to sit with. Her eyes landed on the Gryffindor table, making eye contact with Ned, before glancing away quickly, ears burning slightly at the moment of connection. She was well aware that she wasn't Neds favoritist person in the world- not only was she awkward but she often beat him to the answers whenever they had a conjoined class, no doubt making her look like a complete know it all. But that usually wouldnt bug her, it was just that she was Kaitlyns friend and it made it awkward whenever he was around. The tips of her hair turned a light rose pink, an indicator of her slight embarrassment. The last time she had used her color changing spell something went a little wonky, her dyed hair now changing with her emotions.

((MOOD RING HAIR))
Kaitlyn narrowed her eyes at her friend. "I did! But I ate it on the way to the station. It's not my fault I've got a black hole for a stomach, okay?"
She brushed a stray curl from her face, about to make a move to her table. She really was starving, and that rack of pork ribs looked really appetizing. But she paused when she noticed a change in Tori's hair. "What's up with your hair? It's gone pink."
((Now to find Ned some friends lol)) ((Fireclaw I may have brought some friends, oops))

((I applied for him to be a keeper but someone snatched it just before me. Still, I think I'll ask Cosmic if he can have another position on the team. Idk which yet.))
"Uh huh." Kaitlyn's blue eyes narrowed, the look plastered on her face clearly reading I don't believe that for a second. Then the corner of her mouth quirked up. "I guess you could say it's gone...hairwire."
It wasn't a funny joke, but Kaitlyn figured her friend didn't want to talk about whatever was going on. She'd spill in time. "What does pink mean, then? You said it worked like a mood ring. So you got to tell me." The smirk widened. Yes, Kaitlyn wouldn't push her about her issues, but no way was she letting Tori off scot-free.

(puns are the best omg that made me happy XD) Tori let out a small snort, her mouth quirking up at the pun, hair returning back to the white that it was usually. She paused, thinking for a moment, she was still cataloguing her moods and colors- she was typically either embarrassed or excited, usually her moods didn't sway too far from those. When she didn't have any extreme emotion her hair was white. "Lets see- white is when I'm... Normal I guess. Orange is when i get excited- blue when I'm sad, green when I'm anxious, Pink when I'm embarrassed, red when I'm angry. Those are all the ones I've figured out so far." She explained, hoping she wouldnt ask why she got so embarrassed all of a sudden.

((IM SO BAD AT PUNS))
Unfortunately for Tori, Kaitlyn zeroed in on everything she didn't want.
"Pink means embarrassed, eh?" The smirk melted into a truly troublesome grin. Kaitlyn could become wolfish when presented with mysteries, especially those she could use as banter ammunition. Perhaps it was a familial trait. "What's got you feeling red-faced, then?"

((Oops, you shouldn't have said that))
Something was fishy about that reply, that much Kaitlyn was sure of. Her movements slowed until she came to a complete stop, temporarily forgetting the food she was moving towards (a miracle in itself). Students streamed around them.
"Why do I get the feeling you're lying to me?" she asked, tone semi-serious. She didn't want to pressure her friend into spilling her guts, especially not in such a public setting, if Tori wasn't ready for it. But curiosity was one of those urges she never really learned to control. In Kaitlyn's case, it quickly morphed into nosiness.
Kaitlyn often tried to excuse it with sentimentality or concern. Which wasn't entirely true-- she really did wonder if whatever was making Tori so embarrassed was a serious matter. Either way, she wasn't going to pressure her. Much.
((Might be poofy from here on out. Watching TV while I do some grammar homework ^^))

(lmao what are you gonna do?? and ok, good luck) "Its nothing important, really," She assured her, eyes wide and ernest. She gently pushed her towards her houses table, knowing that they where getting in the way of other peoples food, something that was never a good idea. If she was going to be honest, she didn't quite get why she was so embarrassed at looking at him- she didn't like him or anything. She didn't really like anyone. That just wasn't her thing. Well, not usually anyways. Maybe he was just so extraverted that it made her uncomfortable.

((Idk but you can bet I'll do something with Kaitlyn with that information lol))
"Well, alright," Kaitlyn relented. She gave up a little bit easily this time, but could you blame her? She had a quality feast tempting her tongue and watering her mouth. Besides, she could always interrogate Tori on this little hiccup later.
Kaitlyn made her own over to the Slytherin table, encouraged by her friend's nudge. "I probably won't get to talk to you again until tomorrow," she apologized. Kaitlyn hadn't had a chance to check the 5th year Slytherin's schedule yet, but she hoped their lunch would overlap with Tori's again like last year.

Over at the Gryffindor table, Ned fiddled with his thumbs as he listened to the conversation. The students were almost all settled into their seats, and now it was a matter of waiting for the sorting ceremony to begin. He noticed a teacher setting a rounded stool before the big table, and Ned felt a smile creep onto his face.
It was hard not to get a little excited about the sorting ceremony. Watching the various expressions of assorted 11-year-olds as they tried on the hat was a priceless experience.

"Yeah, things get pretty crazy with the festivities. Hopefully we'll have some form of food time together," She added jokingly, before offering her friend an affectionate wave and making her way over to the Ravenclaw table, settling down next to one of her housemates and grabbing small portions of food and setting them down on her plate. Unlike her friend, she barely ate, not because she didn't like food, she just was always so focused she just... forgot. She usually didnt eat until she would get dizzy, then shed grab something to eat.

|| Tia ||
Tia noticed the wonder shining in Quinn's eyes, and she was right to be amazed - this place really was huge. Her elder siblings had explained the castle to her before, obviously, but she'd never seen it in person, and it was so much more amazing now that she was within the walls for the first time. However, this meant only one thing. The sorting was about to begin. Nerves buzzed around inside the eleven-year-old as the doors opened and the first-years were bundled into Great Hall. She could see the sorting hat placed upon a stool with a few members of staff gathered round. Tia noticed the Headmistress, Professor McGonagall, but didn't want to meet her eye so looked away almost immidiately. Now it was only a matter of time before her name was called. ''Good luck,'' she whispered to Quinn, not knowing who would be called up first. But Tia's last name was 'Ayres' so she was doomed to be one of the first up.
The first kid was sorted. Hufflepuff. Then the next. Also Hufflepuff Then the third. Gryffindor. Then: ''Ayres, Tia.''
Nervously, legs shaking, Tia made her way up to the stool and sat down, placing the old hat upon her head. Tia wasn't one for all the limelight, but she was never this nervous - but now she could feel everyone's eyes glaring at her, wondering if she'd join their house. ''Hmm, where to place you.'' Tia had never thought of how much she'd hate having a hat prying in her mind, and she wanted this over with as soon as possible. ''You are stubborn for sure,'' the hat continued, ''but you could be daring and courageous, if raised within the right crowd - you'd make a great Gryffindor. But you lean towards Slytherin: you possess ambition, and could be a strong leader one day.'' And with that the hat let out a shout of: ''Slytherin!''
Still with jelly legs, the first-year made her way to the Slytherin table and sat down next to her brother, beaming.
|| Luke ||
Luke watched the sorting of his sister. She was the only one he was interested in knowing what house she was sorted into. He just wanted food, right now. But as Tia sat on that stool, he was just as nervous as she was, up until the point where a shout of ''Slytherin'' echoed throughout the Great Hall, and his younger sister joined him at the table. ''Well done,'' he congratulated.
