Jingle Bell merely pointed her ears in the direction of the pond as she heard the nymph retreat into the water. She tilted her head slightly as he resurfaced, and suddenly she was thrown into a whirlwind of images. A family, a water nymph family. It was the orphan's family! He was grieving. He hadn't taken so well to the loss of his family as others had. She lowered her head sadly. She must've scared him, though she tried not to. She wasn't good at this whole peopling thing. She missed her family. Her coven. They'd been drowned and burned and pulled to pieces. All 13 of them. She imagine, the nymph must have felt as bad as she did or he wouldn't have been able to project his dreams so far from himself. She usually had to be very close to sense dreams.

"Don't worry! The grass will be back to normal in an hour. Time loop and all. Are you enjoying it so far?" Holliday's chipper voice shattered the silence in the court yard as he approached Xanthe. Hooliday plopped down criss cross applesauce beside the boy and began idly picking at the blades. "I'm sure you'll love it here. I do!" He tried his hardest to pretend he wasn't nervous. He didn't have many friends because he didn't have a power and the other orphans looked down on him. He was hoping Xanthe was new enough that he didn't know anything yet. It was a long shot, but Holliday didn't mind trying.

Shafer took one of the animal hide straps into his mouth and tugged, tightening them as hard as they would go. If he did anything less, they came loose when he swam and that just wouldn't do, he didn't want to kill another one of those decorative fish. They hadn't taken to him too kindly when he first showed up and they were just starting to coexist. Water filled the nymph's eyes as he stared down at his bristles. They were so much like his brother's, it was the only thing he had that belonged to him specifically. He missed that guy. More than anything, he was sure he'd never hurt this much before. He mumbled out the man's name as he worked on the other side and continued to ignore the cat.

Jingle Bell cringed at the sound of the nymph's voice. She really wasn't fond of the strange bubbly noise. But she still saw the boys family fluttering through her mind, and she turned the images around, a happier light. She showed the orphan and his brother playing in the water. She wasn't really sure if she was trying to comfort the child or herself. It's not like she loved being bombarded by sad dreams.

Shafer puffed up his chest in shock when he felt a new memory intrude on his thoughts. It wasn't a fake memory or anything like that, it had happened, he knew that it did but it wasn't anywhere near his recollection until now. He hadn't thought back on that memory in years and he didn't appreciate its sudden return. Especially not now. Unnatural and disturbed, his gaze flicked up to land on the cat. He shot her a wary glare even though she wouldn't be able to see it. "Get out of my mind, it's awkward and unfair."

Xanthe rolled away from the other boy and sat up. He stared in bewilderment at the brown patch of grass he'd left. Having never left the fortress before now, he wasn't particularly used to plants and the way they burnt. He raised his gaze to the other boy, studying his black hair and green eyes curiously. "I want to leave," He tried out in the boy's language, changing his voice to sound like his- empty and small. "I want to go home. Tell me how." This was the same one who'd tried to talk to him earlier, when he'd first arrived, but Xanthe had been too preoccupied to remember his name.

Jingle Bell felt a sudden bar go up inside the nymph's mind, and images from his direction were no longer showing. Then his voice sounded loud again, and she flinched, her dingy fur flaring in all directions. Only if you stop speaking!!
Jingle Bell froze. Her breathing stopped, and she heard nothing but the blood in her ears. She had just thought.. in the nymph's language. She had watched his memories, and seen his family, and her time inside his head and taught her his language.. In her head anyway, there's no physical way for her to sound out his language, due to having the anatomy of a cat and all.. but she just said something clearly.. No images.. She ran. Nothing new had happened to the old cat in decades, and she didn't take kindly to it now. She tripped and stumbled, and finally ran face first into a tree and slumped to the forest floor breathing heavily, from pain and adrenaline and fear and wonder alike.

"Where is home?" Holliday asked, his curiosity really just a mask at this point. He simply didn't want to tell Xanthe he had no idea how to get anyone home. He didn't really know if it was possible. He'd never had another home.

Ohh my gggggod I had a response and then the page refreshed because my internet glitched out and I lost it.))
Shafer watched the cat puff up with no small amount of amusement. She seemed to do that a lot. Especially after he spoke. He wasn't sure why that was. He had a fleeting thought that maybe she could understand him. But quickly pushed it aside because non-water creatures didn't, couldn't, understand him and that was just something he was going to have to accept. maybe he'd get a speaking companion at some point but that day wasn't today. At least he didn't think so. \ He was so lost in thought that when the cat jumped up and promptly ran off, he was so surprised he was actually disappointed. And whenever a significant emotion managed to claw its way to the surface of his normally numb mind, impulse was sure to follow. And in this situation, that impulse was to chase. And so he did. He jumped to his feet and sprinted after the cat, with a significant amount of grace, due to being gifted with sight and all. But the intoxicating adrenaline of running soon proved to be distracting and he almost tripped over the mangy furball. "Watch it!" He yelped after spitting a rather vulgar curse.

Xanthe thought about it. He really didn't know where his home was, he'd never had a reason to know. No one had ever told him. "It's..." He started in his own language and his own rich voice. He quickly switched to the boy's language and voice. "It's the place that has black hills. The hills of black rock. I live in the fortress." He hoped desperately that the other boy would know what he was talking about, would know the name of the place he lived. His home was a black fortress in the black rock, where his family lived and where fire demons and strange magical looking creatures came and went under the orders of his father. Curses... Why didn't anyone ever tell me how to find home? Why didn't I ever ask? Xanthe hated his own ignorance.

Holliday squinted in a sort of... are you okay??.. kind of curiosity. He tilted his head as the boy struggled really hard to describe his home. Strange to want to go back to place you don't even know about. But Holliday wasn't much for judging so he shrugged it off. "There's not many places I know of that have black mountains, so even though I don't know where that is.. someone will! We can ask around whenever Doctor Foster comes back. She knows everything." Holliday smiled cheerily and hoped to the gods it would keep the boy happy long enough to not run away.

You watch it!! Jingle Bell hissed in her mind at him as the dripping creature came barreling over her and sending wet droplets in all directions. She shook her fur to rid herself of fallen forest debris and pond water. She was trying desperately to lick her fur down, but nothing was working. She was just too flustered right now.

πOOC π Are these okay? If not, I can change them...
Nikolas "Niko" Walters ;; Bogeyman ;; Male Have you ever met a bogeyman before? They're all different, yet there are some similarities, see all bogeymen are meant for one purpose, to scare children. Nikolas hates that he is one of them, yet that's exactly what he is. He has a dark aura that makes him seem far scarier to children than he actually is, see he's a tall man, standing at about 6'4, and he is rather muscular. He has black hair that is only caused because of the whole bogeyman thing. His teeth are sharp and pointed and his ears are much the same, he has black eyes that do nothing to help him look any more friendly, and a bit of scruff on his face. His hair is shaggy and tends to fall into his face, and he has black patches all around his body, as well as a sort of...black overcast that just naturally follows him around. All in all, he looks pretty scary. Nikolas isn't actually all that mean, in fact he's pretty nice once you get to know him, although due to being what he is, most people don't tend to like him, and so he will put up a cold front in hopes of keeping himself from getting hurt. The only ones who don't seem to mind at all that he's a bogeyman, are his brothers. Even Norman as a kid didn't mind, though that goes by unsure of why. Nikolas actually really likes kids, far more than any of the others, and yet he never feels like he can be around them and he tends to have some very dark phases which worry the brothers like no other. He doesn't remember his life before the orphanage, however he doesn't want to know either, because after he, Kai, and Ty all decided to be brothers. Family. He hasn't cared to know what it would be like without them.
Kaiyo "Kai" Walters ;; Chameleon Shifter ;; Male How does one begin to describe Kai? Well for starters, he's of Japanese descent, and has black, spiky hair that honestly looks like long feathers and he has about no explanation for it. He's a bit shorter than average, as he stands at 5'7, and thats it, he's lean and surprisingly strong for someone who doesn't look it. He's a bit more on the attractive side, though he doesn't exactly think about it, and besides...the scales sort of distract from that. Wait, scales? Yeah thats right, this is where his description branches off from normal. See, he's got chameleon powers and can shift into a chameleon as well...so his situation is sort of like Norman's but far better and less forced. He has a long chameleon tail and scale patches on his shoulders, back, elbows, knees, hands, feet, ankles, and cheeks. They do give him a bit of a scaly appearance, though over all he still isn't bad...Kai is a bit of an interesting character, as he is a total daredevil who will jump off the top of a roof just for the laughs, he can do anything a chameleon can and uses it for show tricks and getting himself in danger. Which drives his brothers insane. However he's also sort of judgmental and you get the vibe that he's judging you, despite being relatively friendly and very much the mother brother out of he and his brothers. He came to the orphanage at a very young age and doesn't remember anything before it, and as soon as the other two oldest ones came into the picture, he instantly brought them together as a family and now they're just about inseparable.
Tyler "Ty" Walters ;; Electric Warlock ;; Male So, let's describe Ty, shall we? He's tall, standing at 6'1, along with that he has some muscle to him. He has naturally tan skin and fluffy black hair that he keeps tied up in a ponytail above his head, though it isn't very long and he proudly calls it a warriors wolf tail, and not a ponytail, no matter what anyone else has to say on the matter. He also has light green, almost cat like eyes, and long pointed ears. Ty's body is covered in scars, mostly around his arms and back, but there are some everywhere and they glow when he uses his power, which is electricity, he can control and manipulate the electricity around him, however every time he uses his powers, he ends up hurting himself and a new scar will form, he worries about what will happen when his entire body his scarred. Ty is quite the character, as he usually comes of as relaxed and chill, he makes horrible puns and enjoys the company of just about anyone. However he's also extremely self conscious about himself and tends to hide it all between his arrogant and kinda flirtatious manner. he has a lot of anxieties and is prone to panic attacks, he's also extremely claustrophobic, and he will panic horribly if confined to a small place. Ty is very rebellious and fierce, a real free spirit who wants nothing but freedom and his brothers safe. He, along with Nikolas and Kai, are all the age of seventeen, and he has been at the orphanage for years, ever since he was five, and once he got there, he befriended Nikolas and Kai and the three of them soon decided to be their own family and so now, they're brothers, along with Norman of course.
Norman Walters ;; Cursed Squirrel ;; Male Let's get one thing clear before we go on, this kid has two forms, and he does not choose when to be one over the other. It's terribly inconvenient, but don't worry, we'll get more on that later, first lets describe his first form. His mostly human form. Norman is an extremely short, skinny, pale teenager at the age of thirteen. He has curly, fluffy, downright floofy, natural red hair that is a mess that simply cannot be tamed. He's exactly 5'0 tall, but he lies constantly to give himself an extra inch or two. He's covered in freckles from his head down to his toes, and he has really distracting, deep green eyes. He's actually kind of adorable...especially considering he has two red squirrel ears and a tail to match. You see...that leads us into his second form, which takes the shape of a rather adorable looking red squirrel, who is even small for a squirrel, with fur a natural red color everywhere but his stomach, which is a soft white, his ears are tuffed and long and it seems his fur is unnaturally fluffy. Now before we get to personality and history, let's dive into the whole squirrel thing. See...Norman...he's cursed. Every time he isn't being genuine, he ends up in his squirrel form, and sadly, the only times he can be human, is when he's genuine, and even then its not entirely human. He has been cursed this way ever since he came to the orphanage, which was many years ago. You see, Norman had this bad habit of wearing masks around people, using them to get what he decided, and take in mind he was very young at the time, it was going to end up being a real problem, and so someone cursed him to this life in hopes he would end up a genuine human being...instead he's just bitter and even more manipulative than usual. In fact most people think he's just a squirrel because he's hardly ever genuine around people other than his brothers. Norman still wears his masks, and it helps that only his brothers know why he's cursed to be a squirrel, everyone else just thinks it's at random, and very rarely can people see him in his "human" form. Though, to those few that get to see the genuine Norman, the real Norman, realize he's a freaking dork who just wants to be loved and has a ton of abandonment issues. Which is actually why he wears his masks around people. It's truly a vicious cycle. Now as for his backstory, he was brought to the orphanage at the age of seven, and instantly took a liking to Nikolas, Kai, and Ty, who adopted him as their brother even though they were all at the orphanage and they have been a family ever since.

Watching the cat freak out and lick itself frantically seemed to give Shafer the time to realize he'd left the pond... God, this wasn't good. That was a really terrible idea and he was paying for it now. He whimpered gently, pointed ears twitching beneath his mane of hair as he glanced about and tried to pinpoint the direction his pond was in. He was going to get captured and tortured and sold and it was going to be terrible, and all because of this damn cat. He got to his feet once more and smoothed a hand over his scraped shoulder as he started in the complete wrong direction, taking him closer to the orphanage rather than his pond.

Jingle Bell took a moment away from licking the worry from her fur and listened as the child wandered off in the direction of the orphanage. For a moment, she wondered what would happen if he made it. To the courtyard with the other children. She wondered if he would ever make friends. Then she remembered how he'd pulled from her touch as if she'd burned him. Some of the kids at the orphanage really would burn him if they touched him. She spit in frustration and flicked a leaf at the kid to get his attention, and pointed with her paw in the direction of his pond hoping to the gods he understood what she was trying to say because she damn sure didn't want to figure out some way to get this across to him. Newbies and their lack of sense of direction. Embarrassing really!! Without sight, Jingle Bell could still find her way through this forest and the next. She knew the scent of water, and the way the wind blew. This kid probably couldn't find a body of water if the sound of water falls roared!

Xanthe said warily, still uncertain about staying in this horrible place any longer, even if there was someone who knew everything. Pointing at the boy's hair (but not touching him or getting too close- despite not knowing very much about plants, Xanthe knew quite a lot about what happened when any kind of fire demon touched another creature), he asked, "What are you?"

Shafer toyed with the strings of his arm bands as he wandered further from the cat, wondering if he could just die out here and if it would even really matter. Wow, dark thoughts, fun... Actually, he was pretty sure that was a clearing just ahead there. Even a simple field right now would be much better than being in the middle of these dark woods with nothing but a dream-giving cat for company. Speaking of cat, he heard her start to rustle around behind him. He glanced back but didn't let his gaze linger for long as he soon grew bored and turned towards the clearing. He took off in a sprint until he burst out onto the grass, panting and grinning, despite the ever present fear tingling just beneath his skin.

Holliday tried hard not to scowl as the boy asked about his powers.. or lack there of. Holliday really freaking wished someone could tell him what kind of magic ability he possessed, because He'd rather live with the humans dealing with swirlies instead of being taunted for being useless and mortal. "I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill you" He said chuckling and winking at the demon. He looked up at the clouds as they suddenly started in the wrong direction, and he glanced down to the grass that began to unshrivel and gain their beautiful jade color back. Holliday silently thanked the gods for this distraction. "Time loop. Told you the grass would be back to normal!"

Jingle Bell shook her head as the idiotic creature took off in a full run at the courtyard. She followed behind using the sound of his footsteps to navigate logs and trees. She stopped at the edge of the clearing and made sure she was covered in the shade of the trees. She listened for the water nymph and wondered how long he could go without his pond.

Xanthe frowned. The boy didn't look powerful, but maybe... Or maybe he's just bluffing. But he didn't want to get on his bad side until he knew for sure. He looked around, startled by everything changing so quickly. There is something very powerful here. He put his hand into the now-green grass, only yellowing it slightly. Even the patch of grass he was currently sitting in was back to green, though it was beginning to yellow again. Pressing his hand into the grass to make a brown hand print, he looked back at the other boy. "What's your name?"

"Holliday. My name is Holliday. I fell into the orphanage on the day Mortal's call Christmas. 16 years ago. I've been here since. I spend most of my time in the forest. Theres a cat there that can give you dreams. She's less... annoying than the others so I stick with her." Holliday tried to pretend it was of his own accord that no one ever hung out with him. He wasn't half bad at pretending to be cheery by now. 17 years of practice and all. Only Jingles and the doctor knew everything. "Xanthe, right? Does it mean anything?"
