Litte boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky tacky, little boxes on the hillside, little boxes all the same. There's a green one and a pink one and blue one and yellow one, and they're all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same. And the people in the houses learn their trade cause they were put in boxes and they came out all the same. There are good guys and bad guys and they imagine they're all heros and they're all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.

Intro
"Which side did they fight for?" Only a moment of silence. "Nevermind, don't answer that.. I'm nosy. It gets me in trouble with Doctor Foster a lot, actually. She says it's rude to ask that question. Not that I would judge you! Your parents could have fought for either side and I wouldn't treat you any different, I promise! You still don't have to tell me, though." So much for a silence. "My parents were part of the underground. They didn't fight. I wish they had, it would be so cool to think they ran off to battle for a cause! I guess they could have fought for the wrong side though, and is that really a better alternative?" Silence, again. ...Thank goodness... "Oh! I am so sorry! I've been so busy going on and on that I forgot you just landed face first in a pile of grass and dirt. I guess I could explain what's going on a little bit." ...You don't say? ..."I'm Holliday, and I'm the welcoming committee. This is Foster's Home. The doctor takes in those with no family..." ...Then why am I here?... "I assume Foster sends me because I'm the cheeriest of all in this bunch of misfits. She thinks I can deliver the news a little less abrasively than the other students..." ...What news?... "Here is our courtyard, where you landed. It's usually where magic is practiced and powers are used safely. There's a time loop in this specific area, so you can royally mess up, and everything is back to normal in 1 hour! Don't stay in there too long, time flies when you're having fun!" The cheery kid winks. If you're wondering, no he doesn't breathe between sentences. He doesn't need to. ...What is the news?... "Our rooms are in the large building you see at the far edge just on the outside of the forest. They say it's an enchanted forest... but it's just this silly old cat that plants dreams in your head. She's a bother if you ask me, but the Doctor is fond of her, so no one dares lay a finger on her mangy fur. I'll show you to your dorm later, lucky for you I'm your bunk mate!" ...Lucky... "I'm sure the doctor would like to see you first. She will have a lot of questions for you! You'll fit right in here, kid. You wouldn't have gotten a mouth full of turf if otherwise." ...What are you talking about?... "Okay, I tried to postpone as long as I could, but here we are at the Doctor's office, so I'll have to drop the bomb before you go in." ...Finally... "Your parents were away, fighting or hiding from the war. You ended up catapulting through time and space to land your happy little self here. This means your parents are dead. You're an orphan. And you aren't human, so CPS in the human world can't help you. Welcome to Foster's Home for Not-so-Imaginary Friends." ...Well, $&#@...
About
We all know the archetype. Giant feud between ancestors, and the younger ones are still living with the consequences. It happens to the best of us, I guess. Anywho, that was simply the back story I needed to spice up the fact that really I just want to role play a bunch of interesting characters in a giant group that have to interact. Basically high school on steroids. Except with wings and magic and monsters and stuff. Way more exciting. This role play could use advanced role players with a big imagination, because honestly, this role play could go just about anywhere! If there was a good idea for what the war was fought over, the characters could begin taking sides and fight amongst themselves. Maybe we find out there are prisoners of war... it's the students parents? And the characters all go out to save their families! Truly.. it could go anywhere. I just need the right role players to join me! These characters are just on an island for misfit toys. They can be half human/half goblin, or full warlock, or maybe a mermaid that doesn't grow a tail until she touches water. I don't mind what your little mind makes up... so long as you can provide a detailed description of their peculiarities and powers. Everyone has a weakness, so please be sure to include one, because if anyone will godmod, it's me, and I'll kill off your "immortal" character. Simply "because I said so." Besides, role plays are a lot more fun if someone dies! Or at least gets really really close to dying. You can always make a new character! You can make more than one character so long as you can keep up with them. Makes for easy side quests if everyone has plenty of characters at their disposal. But don't make so many you can't handle everything. I'll try my best to keep up with the story and include a summary on the front page, but if your character starts an important side quest and then you forget they exist, I'll eliminate the side quest... as if it never existed. And that's just a bummer for those were excited. My name is Jingle Bell, by the way. Bell if you must. Feel free to ask me questions, and push the boundaries, because I'm always happy to hear interesting ideas and veto the ridiculous ones. Welcome to the orphanage, kids!Rules
1 ;; You know, follow the forum rules and stuff. Don't get my thread deleted. Simple.
2 ;; Full sentences, and correct grammar as much as possible.
3 ;; Be creative! This world gives you endless possibilities, don't bore me.
4 ;; Be friendly. OOC and otherwise. If someone wants to introduce a new character, don't be snobby.
5 ;; Unless you character happens to be snobby, then by all means, snob away.
6 ;; Remember when we had to put the rule "Don't start talking to your friend out of nowhere if you aren't a part of the role play... calling them to another thread is okay, but that's it" ?? Does that apply anymore since we have private messaging?
7 ;; Well, don't spam my thread to say hi to your friend. Private message them.
8 ;; Your character probably isn't the prettiest, or the strongest, or the fastest, or the best. Sorry not sorry. No power playing.
9 ;; I only sound like a royal &%##*, but I'm actually pretty nice! So ask me anything, I'm happy to help.
10 ;; I don't mind if you take my layout code, but give me a shout out! I worked hard to make this pretty.
11 ;; Try to be active? But like... I work a full time job that calls me in on most of my days off, so I understand...
12 ;; I know someone is going to make a romance out of this... I get it... but in real life there are enemies and platonic friendships, and parental-type relationships as well! Make connections that don't involve body parts. It's more fun that way.
13 ;; Enjoy yourself!
Characters
Doctor Foster ;; Time Keeper ;; FemaleThe Doctor is the head of the household. She takes care of and looks after all the children in her home. Which is more of a school. Or a concentration camp, depends on your mood. She looks to be in her early thirties with long brown hair always pulled up with a butterfly clip. Her eyes are blue, but nothing too exciting... just your average, every day, grayish blue. She's most often found in comfortable sweatpants and a t shirt. Why would she need to dress fancy for a bunch of orphans? Doctor Foster does age, at a relatively normal rate. She can create time loops, and she guards the pendant that keeps our universe moving at a normal progression, but absolute power corrupts absolutely, so when she gets old she'll pass the pendant to someone younger and responsible. It's better this way, trust me.
𝕛𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖 𝕓𝕖𝕝𝕝
Holliday ;; "Welcoming Committee" ;; Male
He has a power... probably. I mean, if he was human he wouldn't have been able to pass the magical barrier and land in this little haven. As far as the rest of the orphanage is concerned, his power is remaining optimistic in the face of death. It makes most of them want to vomit, but Doctor Foster loves her little ray of sunshine. He's been at the orphanage the longest after all. The boy is probably 16 or 17 and stands roughly 5'8 with black hair and green eyes. He's pretty pale and not particularly great at anything. But he's sufficient at most things and that's all that matters. He'll talk bad about the "grumpy old cat" in the forest all day long, but you'll find him in that forest with the cat more than you'll find him anywhere else. She gives him visions of flying or being a wizard or a fire breathing dragon. It helps him deal with the fact that no one knows what his power is, because he doesn't even know what his power is. Holliday was dropped of by the magic baby stork when he was just a year old. Doctor Foster raised him, so he doesn't remember anything of before his time here. Maybe better that way.
𝕛𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕝𝕖 𝕓𝕖𝕝𝕝
Jingle Bell ;; "Grumpy Old Cat" ;; Female
She's just your average outside cat. A little rough around the edges and probably hasn't seen a litter box or collar in her entire lifetime. Her closest friend is Holliday. She takes pity on the poor boy. Jingle Bell spends most of her time giving Holliday grand adventures via lucid dreams she can pass through contact. In one's mind, they're flying over the Grand Canyon, or swimming in the ocean. In the real world they're lying peacefully, seemingly asleep. Along with giving dreams, Jingle Bell can receive them. When another falls asleep of their own accord, Bell can see every dream that flutters through ones mind. Nightmares too.

Cecelia Monstgomery ;; Eldritch Monster ;; Female
Cecilia is a tall, imposing and intimidating girl to most. 17, 5'8", with olive skin, and long dark hair with bangs ending right above her eyebrows. Her face is made up of sharp edges; a strong jaw, high sharp cheekbones, with dramatic dark thick eyebrows and a more pointed nose. Her eyes are a light shade of brown, almost piercing in a sense, and dark circles color the skin around them from the lack of sleep she gets. She's usually seen wearing dark clothes. Turtleneck sweaters, dark jeans, really anything long sleeve that covers her skin. Whatever Cecilia really is, she damn sure doesn't want people to find out. It's fairly scary. One day, when she was a child, some eldritch monster, like Azathoth or the likes inhabited her body as a host to stay alive. Cecilia is like a walking catalyst, and if that thing ever wants to resurface, she'd probably die. It had a lot of weird after effects, such as thick, black tattoo-like markings in the shape of tentacles covering her skin from neck to ankle. Hence, why she covers up. The girl also has some weird, dark abilities, such as shadow manipulation and being able to disappear into said shadows.
Pragmatic, inquisitive, and blunt are a few words to describe Cecilia. She's a realist, and does her best to manipulate, control and analyze a situation to figure out an outcome. The girl hates being stuck in some old orphanage. Very level headed, and a critical thinker. Cecilia is smart, succinct, but very standoffish. She knows how to find what makes people tick. Some may find her useful and intelligent, others find her a threat or someone not to be trusted. Either way, the girl knows her stuff. She can be very standoffish to most people, but when it comes to people she cares about, she would go to the ends of the Earth to protect them. Her father had been dead since she was 5, but her mother was a freedom fighter, someone in some group who opposed the war. Obviously, people in power didn't like that very much, and her mother was killed when she was only 12. She has been at the orphanage ever since.

Shafer Haywood York ;; Native Pond Princess ;; Male
Shafer is a solid 5'3" and has a love-hate relationship with it. He's convinced it makes him that much cuter but he also would occasionally enjoy the ability to look down on people. He's got dark skin, due to his species and where they come from, and he's got long black hair that reaches his waist, usually left down but he has a habit of braiding it whenever he gets bored. Or nervous. His almond eyes are very dark, without pupil, and unsettling, even with the constant watery shine that makes it look like he could burst into tears at any moment. Which he could. His facial features are defined but the plush lips, small nose, and squishy cheeks cancel out any possibility of a chiseled face. As for his body, he's just. Small. He's not skinny. Boy's got curves. But he's not overweight either. Shafer is very easily mistaken for a girl. And if he would get it together, maybe toss on a hoodie or a pair of jeans, he could totally pass as human. 100%. But he seems to have some sort of issue with that. Anything other than strictly traditional wear is a no-go. Which results in very flamboyant clothing designed to show off his more inhuman features. 'Inhuman features' refers to the black scales dotting his sides, from his calves to just beneath his shoulders, the gills splayed along his neck and collar, and the dark, venom-tipped spines lining his forearms. Though recently he fashioned arm-bands to keep those charming weapons safely pressed into his own flesh, keeping the manslaughter cases to a minimum.
Shafer was born to two extremely traditional water nymphs who both had originally hoped to have a daughter. They wanted absolutely nothing to do with the war and did their best to seclude themselves and their children from the rest of the world. Shafer doesn't remember anything before age ten and left home with his brother at age fourteen, so the feelings he harbours towards his parents are confused at best.
Shafer is a brat. He's incredibly childish, indecisive, pouty, manipulative, and gets just about anything he wants. It's unknown whether this is because he's always gotten what he wanted or because he's never gotten what he wanted. But the fact that he's got some serious mommy issues is blatantly obvious. People are mere playthings, judged only on their latest actions rather than them as a whole person.
Did I mention he can't speak English? Or any human language? Because he can't. He tries though.
Ace
Xanthe ;; Gilded Fire Demon ;; Male
Xanthe is around 5’5”, which is short for his species. Although he is extremely old compared to humans, he is only a teenager. His features are fair in an otherworldly way- he’s got tanned skin, but as his blood is golden, it isn’t quite human looking. His skin's got a gold hue and when he blushes or gets angry it becomes even more metallic. His hair is long and golden- it reaches his waist, and is usually loose and wavy. His eyes are also gold, and quite glowy, with cat-like pupils. Despite his humanoid body, Xanthe wouldn’t be able to pass for a human without a serious makeover. Fortunately, his species is gifted with the art of altering their appearances. If Xanthe wanted to, he could dull his hair and skin, and make his eyes appear more human. But why would he ever want to do that? He’s far too vain. The one thing he does do is change is his voice- when speaking human languages, his voice is smooth and chocolaty. This is a stark contrast to his real voice, which is extremely deep and sounds rather like many voices speaking over each other. That’s the norm for demons. As he’s at the orphanage and not away fighting in the war, he wears interesting swaths of cloth held together by golden clamps, collars, and cuffs. Occasionally he braids his hair into a tight coil at the base of his neck and covers it all with a hood. It might look like he draped the curtains around himself, but don’t tell Xanthe that.
His species aren’t really demons, but more like glorified nymphs. Their skin is hot, and Xanthe would probably burn anyone he touched. Some have limited control of fire, but Xanthe does not. Like dragons, they are hoarders of beautiful, shiny things. They usually wear a lot of jewelry, but he settles for what he can find in his situation. As for his family, well- they've fought on the “wrong” side of the war. They are an influential family and have played large parts in the conflict. Of course, from Xanthe’s point of view they are the good guys. He is very proud of his family and is taking the death of his parents badly. Unfortunately for everyone else, he intends to avenge them in some way.
Xanthe is vain, but not stupid. He is manipulative and can be very charismatic when he wants to be. Due to the way he was raised, he sees his species as superior (despite the fact that they aren't even real demons). He also couldn't care less about humans and other short-lived creatures. Despite his age, he's been sheltered and is still immature. Xanthe, like the rest of his species, hates water because it quickly cools them down and could kill them.
❅- - 𝓢𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓰𝓵𝓸𝓫𝓮
Xavier Bloodfeather ;; Dhampir ;; Male
Xavier Bloodfeather is the son of a human and a vampire. The race is known as a Dhampir, and his kind are almost universally feared and hated. He is tall at 5'10, gray haired and painfully thin. Xavier's father was descended from one of the first vampires to walk the earth. Xavier's eyes are golden, and they burn brightly when he grows angry. His skin is light, almost gray in color, and looks flaky, as though you could peel it off. While still a child, at age 15, the latent powers of his vampire blood manifest themselves by enabling him to teleport short distances, disappearing into a cloud of acrid smelling black smoke and reappearing in a similar fashion. He is growing into his powers and has a hard time controlling them. Xavier's demeanor is cheerful, though with a short fuse that gets him into trouble. He has a pet bat named San who he has known for almost all of his life, who communicates with him by establishing a telepathic link. Xavier doesn't know if the bat can talk to anyone else, he has never tried to find out. His father was hunted down by vampire hunters a long time ago, and he was raised by his mother until she fell ill. When she died, his uncle and aunt sent him away to this orphanage, not wanting a freak like him around.

Nikolas "Niko" Walters ;; Bogeyman ;; Male
Have you ever met a bogeyman before? They're all different, yet there are some similarities, see all bogeymen are meant for one purpose, to scare children. Nikolas hates that he is one of them, yet that's exactly what he is. He has a dark aura that makes him seem far scarier to children than he actually is, see he's a tall man, standing at about 6'4, and he is rather muscular. He has black hair that is only caused because of the whole bogeyman thing. His teeth are sharp and pointed and his ears are much the same, he has black eyes that do nothing to help him look any more friendly, and a bit of scruff on his face. His hair is shaggy and tends to fall into his face, and he has black patches all around his body, as well as a sort of...black overcast that just naturally follows him around. All in all, he looks pretty scary. Nikolas isn't actually all that mean, in fact he's pretty nice once you get to know him, although due to being what he is, most people don't tend to like him, and so he will put up a cold front in hopes of keeping himself from getting hurt. The only ones who don't seem to mind at all that he's a bogeyman, are his brothers. Even Norman as a kid didn't mind, though that goes by unsure of why. Nikolas actually really likes kids, far more than any of the others, and yet he never feels like he can be around them and he tends to have some very dark phases which worry the brothers like no other. He doesn't remember his life before the orphanage, however he doesn't want to know either, because after he, Kai, and Ty all decided to be brothers. Family. He hasn't cared to know what it would be like without them.
S'more
Kaiyo "Kai" Walters ;; Chameleon Shifter ;; Male
How does one begin to describe Kai? Well for starters, he's of Japanese descent, and has black, spiky hair that honestly looks like long feathers and he has about no explanation for it. He's a bit shorter than average, as he stands at 5'7, and thats it, he's lean and surprisingly strong for someone who doesn't look it. He's a bit more on the attractive side, though he doesn't exactly think about it, and besides...the scales sort of distract from that. Wait, scales? Yeah thats right, this is where his description branches off from normal. See, he's got chameleon powers and can shift into a chameleon as well...so his situation is sort of like Norman's but far better and less forced. He has a long chameleon tail and scale patches on his shoulders, back, elbows, knees, hands, feet, ankles, and cheeks. They do give him a bit of a scaly appearance, though over all he still isn't bad...Kai is a bit of an interesting character, as he is a total daredevil who will jump off the top of a roof just for the laughs, he can do anything a chameleon can and uses it for show tricks and getting himself in danger. Which drives his brothers insane. However he's also sort of judgmental and you get the vibe that he's judging you, despite being relatively friendly and very much the mother brother out of he and his brothers. He came to the orphanage at a very young age and doesn't remember anything before it, and as soon as the other two oldest ones came into the picture, he instantly brought them together as a family and now they're just about inseparable.

Tyler "Ty" Walters ;; Electric Warlock ;; Male
So, let's describe Ty, shall we? He's tall, standing at 6'1, along with that he has some muscle to him. He has naturally tan skin and fluffy black hair that he keeps tied up in a ponytail above his head, though it isn't very long and he proudly calls it a warriors wolf tail, and not a ponytail, no matter what anyone else has to say on the matter. He also has light green, almost cat like eyes, and long pointed ears. Ty's body is covered in scars, mostly around his arms and back, but there are some everywhere and they glow when he uses his power, which is electricity, he can control and manipulate the electricity around him, however every time he uses his powers, he ends up hurting himself and a new scar will form, he worries about what will happen when his entire body his scarred. Ty is quite the character, as he usually comes of as relaxed and chill, he makes horrible puns and enjoys the company of just about anyone. However he's also extremely self conscious about himself and tends to hide it all between his arrogant and kinda flirtatious manner. he has a lot of anxieties and is prone to panic attacks, he's also extremely claustrophobic, and he will panic horribly if confined to a small place. Ty is very rebellious and fierce, a real free spirit who wants nothing but freedom and his brothers safe. He, along with Nikolas and Kai, are all the age of seventeen, and he has been at the orphanage for years, ever since he was five, and once he got there, he befriended Nikolas and Kai and the three of them soon decided to be their own family and so now, they're brothers, along with Norman of course.

Norman Walters ;; Cursed Squirrel ;; Male
Let's get one thing clear before we go on, this kid has two forms, and he does not choose when to be one over the other. It's terribly inconvenient, but don't worry, we'll get more on that later, first lets describe his first form. His mostly human form. Norman is an extremely short, skinny, pale teenager at the age of thirteen. He has curly, fluffy, downright floofy, natural red hair that is a mess that simply cannot be tamed. He's exactly 5'0 tall, but he lies constantly to give himself an extra inch or two. He's covered in freckles from his head down to his toes, and he has really distracting, deep green eyes. He's actually kind of adorable...especially considering he has two red squirrel ears and a tail to match. You see...that leads us into his second form, which takes the shape of a rather adorable looking red squirrel, who is even small for a squirrel, with fur a natural red color everywhere but his stomach, which is a soft white, his ears are tuffed and long and it seems his fur is unnaturally fluffy. Now before we get to personality and history, let's dive into the whole squirrel thing. See...Norman...he's cursed. Every time he isn't being genuine, he ends up in his squirrel form, and sadly, the only times he can be human, is when he's genuine, and even then its not entirely human. He has been cursed this way ever since he came to the orphanage, which was many years ago. You see, Norman had this bad habit of wearing masks around people, using them to get what he decided, and take in mind he was very young at the time, it was going to end up being a real problem, and so someone cursed him to this life in hopes he would end up a genuine human being...instead he's just bitter and even more manipulative than usual. In fact most people think he's just a squirrel because he's hardly ever genuine around people other than his brothers. Norman still wears his masks, and it helps that only his brothers know why he's cursed to be a squirrel, everyone else just thinks it's at random, and very rarely can people see him in his "human" form. Though, to those few that get to see the genuine Norman, the real Norman, realize he's a freaking dork who just wants to be loved and has a ton of abandonment issues. Which is actually why he wears his masks around people. It's truly a vicious cycle. Now as for his backstory, he was brought to the orphanage at the age of seven, and instantly took a liking to Nikolas, Kai, and Ty, who adopted him as their brother even though they were all at the orphanage and they have been a family ever since.

Alistair Vecktombordra ;; Fairy prince ;; Male
Alistair is...well he's a very particular type of fae, however we're going to wait till we get into that. Let's start with a basic outline of his looks. He's tall, standing at 6'1, and before you start questioning...it's mostly because he chooses never to be in actual fairy size, which is quite small. He has a nice complextion and apparently a nice jawline, though he hasn't ever really noticed. He has dark green eyes and just a few small, faded freckles along the bridge of his nose and his cheeks. His hair is a natural soft black however there's some odd light blue and purple streaks in it that actually look kinda cool...just a bit odd, it's shaggy...quite a bit so, and falls down to his chin. He's very fit and scarred, making it quite clear that even for his relatively young age(as he can't be an adult yet, seeing as how he is at the orphanage), that he has seen war. His ears, well...let's get into what type of fae he is now. He comes from a very unique group of fae who are the guardians of their forest, which has always made Alistair feel most at home in a forest. His fairy kind have long, bug like wings that could look just about like any insect's wings, and their ears are unlike the usual pointed ears, they're...well they're long, furry, rabbit like. It's a tad odd, I know. So Alistair here has two long black and gray rabbit like ears that could either stand up or flop down, and his wings look like a replica of an iridescent dragonfly's, just larger, brighter, and since they're the source of his magic, sparklier. Like with pixie dust and stuff. Alistair is...well he's got a few problems. For starters he has this annoying, huge desire to protect, to have someone, something to protect and guard over. He just...he has too, and if he isn't the guardian of something, he isn't happy. He's a very by the rules type of guy who would never consider ever breaking the law and is extremely loyal and devoted. He's a pleaser, and he loves to make others happy, going as far as to put his own health at risk to make sure others are happy and he absolutely despises it when people don't like him because of it. He's actually a fairly energetic guy who literally has to go outside at least once a day or else he will go crazy. He's got a real bad habit of enjoying sweets too much, like ice cream or whatever else he could eat in his fairy kingdom, however he also obsesses over staying fit and in shape, so he exercises like crazy. Alistair secretly really yearns for companionship, he is truly happiest with others and hates being alone, and he's extremely defensive of his personal space. Do not get in his personal space, he will flip out or something. It's better to just not try...though deep down he actually really likes things like hugging, cuddling, touching, however he's buried that very far down. He hates the cold with a passion and honestly has a weird love of fire-probably due to loving anything warm. Also, for the record, he is extremely naive. You tell him something and he is going to believe it no matter how outrageous it sounds and the poor thing is so terribly easy to manipulate, it's just sort of pathetic. Alistair is a prince to his little fairy kingdom, and he fought in the war alongside his parents and his older sister, up until his parents died and he landed himself here. He firmly believes that he fought on the "Right" side of the war, however well, he technically didn't. It was the "Wrong" side of the war, but he didn't believe or know that. He honestly doesn't talk much about his past and finds the fact that he's a prince annoying because no, he doesn't need someone looking after him, he's the one who should be protecting others and that mentality drove his parents crazy.
