"No way," Xanthe scoffed at the ridiculous thought. "You'll need to burn me in them like a funeral shroud." Already making a little pile of kindling in the back, Xanthe completely ignored Shafer's outburst. "Its fine, you can move closer once I fall asleep," He said calmly. "I'll cool down and between that and my clothes, we'll both be fine." Well, that was just as long as the nymph was dry by then- which he would be, or else Xanthe really would send him to sit outside. "Just a small fire, see?" He said, pointing at the kindling, which was minuscule. Brushing his fingers around in the dirt walls, he found two acceptable rocks. He'd have his tiny fire whether Shafer died or not. "I know you've got to be cold too, you're all damp. And you can't sleep next to me if you're damp."

IC Norman had been...you know, sulking as he tried to get over the whole cat thing when someone landed down and his eye widened slightly, pink squirrel nose twitching as he slowly, cautiously, scampered over to the girl with a tilt of his head, watching carefully. Some sort of cat creature thing...so not something he wanted any part of. She was new, which meant she was Holliday's job, not his. His job was to be the animal comic relief with a bad attitude. Besides, it wasn't like the squirrel wanted to get between the girl...and her dirt and grass. She looked happy. It was disgusting.

Winnie {{ -- who morphed into a deer-centaur instead of cat-centaur because it's a cuter concept to me }} was destroying the lawn with her hooves when she caught sight of red fur and a fluffy tail that looked very familiar. Squirrel!! She clapped and began a trot towards the little fluff. She wasn't rushing at him, or anything, but clearly a very excitable creature. Her little tail flicked back and forth hurriedly as she got closer. "Hello! And what is your name?" She asked, but let it be known.. this was an entirely rhetorical question to which Winnie expected NO answer. Because squirrels don't talk. Even if the forest where she's from.

"If you die, I'm taking your clothes," Shafer finally just straight up told him, shoulders jolting in a shrug, like it was somehow out of his hands. He couldn't find it in himself to sugar coat it when the demon was so obviously trying to make him uncomfortable by making a fire. He watched on, brow lowered over his eyes and jaw set defiantly. Just rude and he wished they'd stayed by the pond. It wasn't as if he couldn't go back whenever he wanted to, he was sure he'd be able to find his way back easily enough. But he wanted to hang around and watch Xanthe suffer. Also no matter how annoying he was, he was still quite shiny. "I'm like ten seconds away from lying on you and I think we've determined who has the higher pain tolerance at this point," he threatened, even as he pressed back, as far away as these walls would allow.

OOC Text ICNorman blinked, well it looked like he was talking to her anyways, at least she wasn't a cat or an eagle or some other natural squirrel predator. This squirrel-cursed human had had enough close encounters for the day. "Norman," he replied simply, getting right to the point. Honestly a little excited to see her response because most people were more than a little shocked at the talking squirrel. Which was the only thing that made up for the squeaky adorable voice, because he couldn't do anything else with it. People even cooed when he was trying to be an angry jerk. It was frustrating.

(had to reboot because this laptop hates me :') )
"You'll be fine, stop whining. I'll put it out soon," Xanthe said, rolling his eyes. He once again began braiding his hair up, preparing to cover as much skin as he could with his clothing. "See, its tiny. And you're just stubborn and more willing to die than I am," He said in response to the nymph's comment about pain tolerance. Xanthe felt like Shafer should appreciate the fire, as much as he loved his skin. The demon was in his natural element- a dark cave with only the flickering light of a small fire to make him flash and shine. Of course, it was a cave with dirt walls and leaves and bugs on the floor instead of black obsidian or pumice, but still. Xanthe finished the coil and wrapped the cloth around his head, covering his hair entirely before re-clasping his broad collar. Then he covered both of his hands, leaving only his ankles and feet bare- there wasn't much he could do about that.
(also bell of course you can draw Xanthe!)

Shafer squirmed forward threateningly, but continued to keep his distance because holy hell, the warmth was scary enough from where he was already. He just wanted to make the demon as uncomfortable as possible. Though he ended up being the uncomfortable one, after that 'wanting to die' comment. Well, Xanthe wasn't. Wrong. Exactly. "I guess," he grumbled as he rested his head on his arms. He stayed there for a few seconds before the light became too distracting and he shoved his face into the crook of his elbow. "You look ridiculous," he informed him without even having to look up at him.

{{ -- Norman is on the front page!! I'll read the descriptions provided for each character and see if I can draw them! If you guys have anything you'd like to add, feel free to let me know what concepts you had in mind. }}
Winnie stopped dead in her tracks. Her left side brain recognized the movement of the squirrel's mouth, but completely brushed it off as coincidence. Her right side brain filled her with wonder and excitement and fear all at once. Her head at this point was at war with itself. Imagine SpongeBob's little brain minions tossing papers and setting everything on fire.. Of course on the outside.. Winnie was a cool as ever. She simply shifted from one hoof to another, and looked around for anywhere else the voice could have come from. Because it's normal to assume the squirrel wasn't who answered her question.. but Winnie secretly hoped the squirrel answered again..

OOC Awesome. Also Bell, is Alistair accepted? His form is below the brothers on the other page.
IC "...Yeah that was me speaking, the squirrel," Norman added, folding his arms as he looked up at the deer...person...thing. Ugh and hardly anyone ever even believed him. How awful. He hated this curse. He really couldn't think of any bright sides to it. All it did was make him bitter and adorable but mostly just bitter because really, his attitude did help take away from his cuteness. That's what he believed at least...hence the bad attitude. Since that was basically just another mask he donned on in front of everyone too.

Xanthe turned and smiled at the nymph. "I think you mean I look like a vein of gold ore in the torchlight." Now that he was warmer- he should be, Xanthe was practically sitting on the fire- the situation really didn't seem that bad. (From the perspective of his earlier self, this situation was absolutely horrid. Sharing a tiny cave with a water nymph while lost in the forest? But that was a couple of hours ago and Xanthe felt like he'd matured a lot since then.) "Are you dry yet? You should probably put your hair up too," He said, aware that the heat couldn't be comfortable for the nymph. But hey, maybe it was revenge for all the other stuff.

"No, I mean you look ridiculous. You look like like a seal. Or a walrus. A shiny walrus without tusks." Shafer thought he made his point quite well enough as he huddled in even closer, resembling a ball at this point. His skin was starting to prickle as it dried, leaving him feeling out of place and a little bit sick. But he was alright, he'd live. He'd just be a lot more whiny until morning showed up. "Yeah, I'm dry. But I could still hurt you," he thought the threat was necessary. "Why would I put my hair up, there's nothing to keep it hidden from. I don't think there's anyone out here who'll buy me from you." He was too tired to think of whether that sentence would make sense to the demon.

{{ -- I like it, Snow! Alistair is added, Smore!}}
Winnie mentally bounced in joy. Physically, she just excitedly stamped her front hooves. "Hi! Norman, right? I'm Aelfwine. You can just call me Winnie, it's easier to pronounce! It's nice to meet you. I didn't expect a talking squirrel, but then again, I just fell through space, so I don't know what I should have expected! How did you learn to speak? And did you fall through space too? Where are we, actually?" Winnie was speaking from her right side brain, but her left side brain wouldn't let her stop asking questions. So it just came out a very hyper regurgitation of words that were hard to follow.

OOC Awesome.
IC Norman watched with a look of vague annoyance. "First off, I've always known how to speak, it's squirrel which was the hard language to learn. I've mastered it though, for the record. Not that squirrels have much to say, it's usually just annoying, like whatever people say in any other language. Second, you're at an orphanage, your parents are dead. All our parents are dead and now we're here, third-nice to meet you, I guess," he said, giving an aloof shrug. Hey this was Holliday's job, not his. If he had to be the one to greet this newcomer, he wasn't doing it with a smile.

Winnie blinked down at the small fluff, her left side finally winning over and allowing her to recognize the creature wasn't a very pleasant one to be around, but being the only breathing thing she could see, he was useful right now. "Okay. I suppose it was only a matter of time before the forest was taken by them. We can discuss more on this orphanage later, as I'm not keen on ruining my mood with real talk. So why don't you tell me just why you had to learn squirrel in the first place, instead." She sat on her haunches and curled her front legs neatly into her body, curling up to hear the squirrel's story.

IC "Cursed by someone, get turned into a squirrel at random, it's not a very exciting story. Point is, I'm a human, I'm just cursed this way until the curse is broken," Norman went over with a shrug. There were about two ways he knew of that could break the curse, however in his opinion, both options were simply not doable. So...he was stuck like this, apparently. "After I realized I'm gonna be spending a lot of time as a squirrel, I figured I should learn the language of squirrels and tada, there you go," he finished, sure he could go into more detail and better explain his story, but he didn't exactly want too.

(and that's his resting face)
"No, I meant- what? Buy you from me? I only meant so it doesn't get burnt again, what does that mean?" Xanthe gave the nymph a confused look. Then he turned to the fire- Shafer did look decidedly dry by now, uncomfortably so. He softly smothered the fire with his hands, snuffing it out. Then he pushed the used kindling to the back wall and spread it out so that it'd cool. He turned back to the nymph, waiting for an explanation. Maybe Shafer was some sort of selkie- that'd explain the weird sea mammal references.

Shafer lifted his free hand and waved the demon off, deciding that if he didn't get it now, he wasn't about to explain it to him. "Burnt...? Yeah, I guess that makes sense." The nymph sighed heavily before he pushed himself up into a sitting position and collected his hair over one shoulder before beginning to braid it. It would probably be less put together, considering the now severe unevenness. His eyes were bright with unshed tears. Though they pretty much always were, it was especially pronounced in that moment.
