We have all seen discussions on which characters are Mary Sues, but I don't think there have been many discussions about anti-sues before. If you don't know what an anti-sue is, here is the definition.
"The exact opposite of a Mary-Sue or a Marty-Stu. This is a character in a book or fanfiction that is stricken by unfathomable misfortune and horrible characteristics, so much so that the entire story becomes depressing and/or unrealistic."
I feel like Mapleshade could fit this criteria. Throughout her entire novella, she was striken with misfortune. Everyone except for Nettlepaw and Myler were incredibly cruel to her, and showed no remorse for her situation. She is also the first and only cat that we know of that has been exiled for taking a mate outside the Clan and having half Clan kits.
So what do you think? Does Mapleshade sound like an anti-sue?

Sounds a bit anti-suish to me, but I've never read her novella so I can't be sure.

I think all the cruelty was reasonable. Mapleshade's exile was mostly because of Ravenwing's omen and not as much because she broke the warrior code. Who knows what those kits could have done in the future if they weren't banished? He was only doing his job. Freckwish just did not feel like drowning so she didn't save the kits. Selfish, yes, but understandable. The only cat that was cruel to her was Appledusk. Mapleshade caused a lot of her own misfortune by taking a mate outside of her clan and thinking she could swim across the river. She knew the river would be hard to swim across, but she risked it anyway. While Appledusk should have been more understanding of her loss, he was partly right; it was foolish to cross that river. Most of her pain was self inflicted and she blamed other cats for it.

I've been thinking the same thing for awhile now. She seems to be borderline, at least.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Mapleshade's story is too "unrealistic". Too many bad things happened to her and she had no support. At least with Scourge he had his mother and Clan. But Mapleshade had no one except Myler. Nettlepaw doesn't count since he left her. But even then with Myler she didn't want his help. It felt too forced when the Erins wrote MV, when the writing tried to make us pity her. I say she is an anti-sue. MV ruined Mapleshade for me. She should have had a Super Edition.

I misread the title as, "Is Mapleshade an anti-semite?", and was extremely confused.
