( Give this a chance, and tell me if you like it! :3 It's set sometime in Midnight and portrays the sort of off-screen relationship of Firestar and Squirrelpaw. I got the idea for this when at the part in Dawn where ThunderClan are helping ShadowClan escape their camp as it is destroyed, a tree falls on Firestar and Squirrelpaw first calls out to him with Firestar - his name as her leader - and then, out of desperation, she calls out to him with Father. That always struck me as very sweet and I wanted to delve deeper into that with this little one-shot. Enjoy! )
~
I never wanted to fall out with him.
I stormed out of my father's den, fur bristling and tail lashing, ignoring his angry yowl for me to come back. How DARE he tell me not to be around Brambleclaw?! Not that I'd want to be around the annoying furball, anyway.. I saw him sharing fresh-kill with Sorreltail by the warrior's den. I snorted. Toms!
I stalked over to the apprentice's den and sat down by the old tree stump next to Shrewpaw, who stared at me as if I'd grown wings. After a moment's thought, he quietly moved into the den, leaving me alone with my thoughts. As I saw Sandstorm pad into my father's den, I pictured Firestar's fiery green gaze as he glared at me during his lecture and I angrily pushed it away, followed by an immense wave of hurt. I shut my eyes. I'm sorry! I was almost surprised to think it, but I found that I was sorry.
But I wasn't going to let him know that.

I never wanted to fall out with her.
"Squirrelpaw! Get back here!" I yowled, but she had already stomped out of my den. I unsheathed my claws, feeling my fur bristling. "Cheeky cub.." I muttered. I got up and stalked around my nest, lashing my tail. This wasn't the first time I'd gotten mad at her. Even though she'd only been an apprentice for two moons, she found plenty of trouble to get into.. And she was never sorry. Why can't she be more like Leafpaw? I thought of my other daughter, and of how quiet, obedient and gentle she was. The irony was almost too painful to bear.
"Firestar?" A familiar mew jerked me out of my thoughts. I turned to see my mate, Sandstorm, standing in my den. She dropped a rabbit into my nest. "I thought you'd be hungry."
"I'm not hungry, thank you," I growled. Squirrelpaw's indignant little form, bristling with anger, was still fresh in my mind.
Sandstorm fixed me with a stern gaze. "I bet they could hear you two yowling from here to WindClan. Honestly, Firestar! Can't you go a day without picking a fight with our daughter?"
"Can't she go a day without picking a fight with me?" I muttered mutinously. "Honestly, where did she get it from? I was never that bad when I was an apprentice." I glanced at her. "She got it from you, didn't she?" Suddenly, I realized how much she looked like Sandstorm when she was angry.. She flattened her ears and screwed up her little face and looked just like my dear mate. I felt my gaze soften. "She.. She looked just like you just now." I sighed. Like Sandstorm had said, I myself was even getting tired of the conflict between myself and my daughter. "Maybe.. Maybe I was a little rough on her.."
Sandstorm picked her way over to me and gently pressed her pelt against mine. Her sweet scent wreathed around me. "Oh, Firestar, you great lump.." She sighed. "You can be so dense."

"Squirrelpaw."
I looked up and saw my father standing in front of me. He looked calmer now, his fur flat and tail still. Far different from how he had looked earlier. I narrowed my eyes, the wave of hurt and anger rushing back over me. "Yes?" I mewed softly, not entirely trusting my voice.
"Come with me." He waved his tail and started padding towards the tunnel leading out of camp. I got up and glanced towards my mother, who nodded. I shrugged and warily followed my father out of camp, my eyes fixed on the ground. Sandstorm probably told him it wasn't right for the whole Clan to hear us yowling.. So he's probably going to do it out here. My heart sank. It was very unusual for the Clan leader to go hunting with his kit, so that's probably what he was going to do.
We padded in silence until I found we were at Sunningrocks. The sun was just starting to set by now. Firestar stopped and looked back at me. I noticed how the last rays of the sun caught his pelt and turned it to flame. He turned and leaped up onto the rocks, glancing back to see if I was following. I swallowed and leaped up, envying his easy jump as mine turned into a scrabbling attempt to regain my clawhold. A moment later, I felt his teeth in my scruff as he hauled my up next to him. I glanced away. "Thanks.." I muttered. Here? The whole of RiverClan will hear us if we argue here, let alone ThunderClan.
I heard him sigh, and he padded over to the edge of the rock, the side overlooking the river. "Squirrelpaw.. Come over here." He sat down and looked into the river. I went over and sat next to him, but I made sure that our pelts didn't brush. This made him sigh again.
"Look into the river."
I looked down and in the last light of the sun, I saw two cats with pelts of fire. One was large and powerful, the other quite a bit smaller, but still just as bright. I felt Firestar's tail on my shoulder, and I didn't move away. "We're twin flames," he said softly. "Fiery. Burning bright." He glanced at me. "I was too fiery with you today.. I'm sorry." I met his gaze and saw that it was tinged with sorrow. "Do you forgive me?"
For a moment, surprise flashed through me, then a sea of relief. It had been what I was thinking of telling him all day, only my pride didn't let me. I really didn't like being mad at my father, despite what other cats might think.
I pressed my pelt against his, a little shyly. "I f-forgive you.. If you forgive me."
A purr rumbled in his throat. I looked up and saw the first stars of Silverpelt starting to appear in the sky. I sighed peacefully and buried my muzzle in Firestar's thick pelt, purring blissfully. It felt good not to be mad at him.
Then the RiverClan patrol spotted us and started yowling their heads off about an invasion.
But to this day, I'll never forget that night when Firestar took me to Sunningrocks and showed me that we were twin flames, burning bright, a little proud, a little too fiery at some times, but still burning bright.
I'll never forget him.
