The Wise Ones Tell A Tale: The History of SakuraClan
❀ - - Long, long ago, the Land of the Rising Sun was prosperous and alive with longevity. Like all other lands, this beautiful place had a leader, of course. But...not a warlord or an emperor like most did.
This land had a ruler unlike any other - a goddess.
Her name was Amaterasu Ō-kami - the sun goddess and ruler of the High Celestial Plains that severed as the home for all the gods. Along with her brothers, Tsukiyomi and Susanoo, she ruled with a glorious holy light that shined down upon all the world.
Now, the elders tell us that one day, Susanoo went up to the heavenly realm to visit his sister. In his haste to see her, the storm god moved through the sky with crackling thunder in his paws, loud enough to shake even the greatest of mountains. Even Amaterasu herself became frightened, so she decided to take caution when she greeted him.
"Why do you disturb the peace of our kingdom, Susanoo?" The golden Siamese challenged boldly, looking at him - a little disdainfully - through her golden-red eyes. "Surely, you have more than enough activity in your own lands."
The silvery-blue tom only smiled and replied: "Oh, radiant sister, I wish you no harm. My only desire is your warm company, a glimpse of your lovely face, and a few pleasant words before I descend to the underworld to find our most esteemed mother." His answer pleased her, but Amaterasu decided to request a contest for proof of his intentions by creating gods.
Although Susanoo made more gods, the sun goddess claimed her victory to the gods that were made from her necklace. Her win drove Susanoo to violent ordeals that reached their climax when he hurled a fox through her den, causing the death of one of her attendants. Terrified and miserable, Amaterasu fled and hid in a sacred cave. As the young diety disappeared, so did her light, and the darkness, called yami, slowly began to cover the world. Nature withered, lakes became murky, and malicious demons seeped into the land.
The world was slowly but surely perishing.
All the gods and goddesses tried to coax Amaterasu out of the cave, but none of the cats could force the goddess out of her hiding place. But a mirthful goddess named Ame hatched a clever plan. She placed a large mirror on a tree, facing Amaterasu's cave. Then she suddenly began to dance around, while the other gods made music and laughed as if they were at some sort of grand festival. Amaterasu became curious about all this festive noise, and opened the cave's rocky door with reluctant paws.
When she peeked outside from her long stay in the dark, a ray of morning light escaped, and the goddess was dazzled by her own beautiful reflection in the mirror. Surrounded by love, Amaterasu's depression disappeared and she agreed to return her light to the world.
With this, the land rose to life and peace anew once more. The darkness had been banished once and for all. Amaterasu's holy light fell upon a certain group of cats, who were strictly bound by the laws of Shinto. She blessed the cats in that area, who decided to join together as a Clan in order to restore everyone's faith in the benevolent deities whom they called their guardians.
However, this is only the beginning of SakuraClan's history. What will become of this blessed Clan, we do not know. But it is your choice to find these dark secrets and find out what truly lies beneath the mirth and joy.

Silhouetted against the blue-black sky, the daimyo towered over me like a demon as I knelt in the dirt before him. I could not see his face, but there was no mistaking the authority in his growling tone, nor the hint of mockery in his question. I tried to speak and managed only a faint croak. My mouth had gone dry, as parched as a cat dying of thirst.
But I had to respond. My fate - and though I didn’t know it then, the fate of all of Japan - rested on my answer.
Raising my head just enough to brave a glance at the demonic cat, I saw him staring at me with piercing golden eyes, like a hawk poised to seize a mouse in its talons. When I managed to speak, my voice was clear and steady, and I drew courage with each syllable.
“Yes, Lord Nobunaga. I do.”

❀ 1. Respect all the gods and nature kami, especially the Great Mother Goddess, Amaterasu, for she has given you and your Clan life.
❀ 2. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats in other clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.
❀ 3. Do not hunt or trespass on another clan’s territory.
❀ 4. Wise Ones and kittens must be fed before minarai and samurai. Unless they have permission, minarai may not eat until they have hunted to feed their elders.
❀ 5. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to Amaterasu for its life.
❀ 6. A kitten must be six moons old (10 human years) to become a minarai.
❀ 7. Newly appointed samurai will keep a silent vigil for one night after the ceremony is performed.
❀ 8. A cat cannot be made commander without having mentored at least one minarai.
❀ 9. The commander will become daimyo when the current leader dies or retires.
❀ 10. After the death or retirement of a commander, the new deputy must be chosen before midnight.
❀ 11. A gathering of all clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among the clans during this time.
❀ 12. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
❀ 13. No cat may neglect a kitten in pain or danger, even if it is a kitten from a different clan.
❀ 14. The word of the daimyo is the bushido code.
❀ 15. A true samurai does not need to kill other cats to win his battles, unless they are outside the bushido code or it is necessary for self-defense.
Vocabulary of the Clan.
- - SakuraClan is not your average Clan. They do not use Warriors vocabulary, rather, they are much like the traditional Japanese, and as such they have their own way of speaking. Here is a glossary of terms that are going to be used in the roleplay.

H O N O R I F I C S
-san - Similar to "Mr." or "Miss". An honorific that is situated for almost all situations, showing a proper level of respect.
-chan - An affectionate honorific used for a close friend, a young female, or a kitten.
-sensei - It is used when referring to teachers, such as an apprentice addressing their mentor.
-kun - Usually used when speaking to young males.
-sama / -dono - Means "lord" or "lady" in English. It shows a great deal of respect and is used for others of higher rank.
-senpai - It refers to someone who is an inspiring upperclassmen - for example, an apprentice may use it with a young warrior whom they like or look up to.

Kami - Japanese for 'god' or 'spirit'. It refers both to the gods themselves, as well as the spirits of all nature objects.
Ningen - The Japanese word for a human.

 ❀ T H E C A M P ❀
-- Nestled in the giant center of a bamboo grove, SakuraClan dwells peacefully. The entrance is very recognizable - a red torii gate with old stepping stones leading down into the grassy camp itself. Upon entrance, you will promptly see a large shrine in the back of the camp with cherry blossoms surrounding it. This is the daimyo's den, where the higher-ups make announcements. The healer's den to the right is a hollowed out rock with a small opening. The samurai's den is much like the healer's den, but it is much larger, with two sides - one for senior samurai and the other for younger ones. Both can hold a fairly large quantity of cats. After that comes the apprentices' den, which is right next to the samurai's. The Wise Ones sleep in a fallen oak tree near the Nursery, which is made out of a stone cave.
Neighboring clans include the Oda Clan high in the dark mountains, the Date Clan in the nearby forests, and the Azai Clan near the busy city of Edo (ancient Tokyo). There are many other clans in the forest, but they will be revealed as the journey progresses.

❀ L A N D M A R K S ❀
The Moon Shrine - Deep in the bamboo forest, marked by a pair of lion-dog statues, the Moon Shrine is an empyrean cave where the daimyo goes to receive their nine lives and converse with the gods. A small waterfall called the Divine Spring lies deep inside the cave. Pooling under this waterfall are two spirits that circle one another indefinitely - a black cat with a white spot, Yang, and a white cat with a black spot, Yin. These two sacred cats are what keep the world in complete balance.
The River of the Heavens - The River of the Heavens is a miraculous place indeed. No cat must drink the sacred water from from this river, lest they be cursed by the gods themselves. It is described as 'the river of life', as it continuously shines in holy light. It is said that this is the way-point for deceased cats, to where they go to live with Amaterasu and the other gods in the High Celestial Plain. If one crosses this river, they will find themselves feeling weightless. A cat can perish if they are in the river for too long, so one has to look for stepping stones if they want to cross it.
The Bamboo Trail - The Bamboo Trail is a peaceful place, well suited for hunting and playing with the panda bears. However, rare yokai, like kitsune and tanuki dwell there, so slight caution is recommended. Sometimes humans can be seen walking along the trail in the afternoons, but nonetheless it is still a very nice place to visit.
Mount Fuji - Mt. Fuji is a large and very sacred volcano about towards the North - large enough to be seen from Ankoku Temple. It is a very religious place; the Shinto goddess Amaterasu is revered here for the sun that shines over the mountain in the morning.
Ankoku Temple - An old Buddhist temple very close to SakuraClan, nested in a series of small hills visible from camp. Surrounding the temple is a wall, lining the hill's top. To the left of the wall is the temple bell, which is used by the cats for ceremonial and celebration services. From the base of the hill, a steep staircase leads up to the temple, with roofs above parts of the staircase.
The Forest of Lamentations - Also called "Nageki no Mori", The Forest of Lamentations is located south of the River of the Heavens, where the water turns murkier. It is a very dark and dangerous place, with death written all over it. All kinds of demons and evil spirits reside here, and it is never safe to venture into the Forest without reason to.
Training Grounds - The training grounds are a the remains of a Zen garden. It includes various pools of water with bridges, a small waterfall, and pretty symbols engraved in the sand. It is a simply beautiful place, which is why the apprentices sometimes come here just to relax.
Hana Valley - Hanasaki Valley is a small valley of sakura trees east of the training grounds, and it is where the Guardian Tree is located. The area is the source of the river which leads to the Divine Spring in the Moon Shrine. The entire area is full of flora and fauna, and is one of the most beautiful places in SakuraClan - fit for lovers to view the night sky. There are several waterfalls in the valley, which creates a stream that leads to the aforementioned lake. A stepped trail that leads up a slope and to a shrine containing the Guardian Tree and an altar to worship the sun.

❀ Kousa (Japanese Dogwood Fruit) - A dry cherry-like berry. This fruit helps to correct blood flow and circulation.
❀ Shouga (Ginger Root) - A spicy-smelling, edible root which has to be dug up from fertile soil. It helps to ease stomachaches, nausea, and food poisoning.
❀ Satonishiki Cherry - A bright red, sweet cherry that grows only in spring and summer. They are found in the Guardian Tree in Hana Valley. It has no cure for any known ailment, but it doesn't help ease fever and gives the cat a warm, pleasant feeling.
❀ Hakobe (Chickweed) - A small shrub with small white flowers.
It is a soothing herb that relieves itching, promotes healing, and has shock-reducing properties.
❀ Kanzō (Licorice) - A tall plant with silvery, densely-felted foliage. It has a sharp scent and a sweet taste to it. The leaves can be eaten to help with shortness of breath and chest tightness.
❀ Daio - A small, leafy green plant usually grown near water. It has a bitter smell to it and tastes rather cold.
❀ Japanese Knot-weed - A large, tall plant with hollow stems. The leaves can be chewed to a pulp and eaten to null pain or make cats fall asleep.

The daimyo - or leader - is the foundation of the Clan. They carry out duties and ceremonies, and are very respected among the chiryoushi and commander. The daimyo's word is law and all their orders must be followed.
Akiko | 20 | Female
LIVES: 9
Akiko-sama. The highly esteemed wife of Lord Kotarou, and the leader of SakuraClan. Akiko is a very alluring she-cat indeed; simply put, she stands out with a regal air. True to her name, meaning "autumn child", her golden fur is decorated with splotches of auburn, yellow, and orange. She sports a lithesome frame with neatly sloping curves. She is a Siamese mix, and her chocolate-pointed ears give that away. Her paws are dipped in cream, as are her chest and muzzle. The most captivating thing about her are her eyes, being a lovely, sharp honey gold. She wears a pink carnation ornament in her ear.
Akiko is a very regal cat, with an air of great authority radiating from her at all times. The female daimyo comes off as phlegmatic and cold to her cats, speaking only when she deems right. Her mate, Lord Kotarou was murdered by Nobunaga himself not too long ago, and she is one of those cats who won't fall in love anytime soon.
Akiko dislikes the Oda Clan, disrespect, and loud noises with a passion. But she finds a friend in solitude and high places.
She hates it when cats try to flirt with her or compete with her authority.
❀ C O M M A N D E R ❀
The commander is the second-in-command to the daimyo, and may be considered an apprentice to the art of leading the Clan. They serve in the leader's place in situations where the leader is unable to fulfill their duties. They are in charge of organizing patrols and they are often called on by the leader for advice, but other than that, they retain the normal duties of a samurai.
Do not apply for this position; it will be chosen in roleplay.
❀ H E A L E R ❀
The chiryoushi, or 'healer' serves the Clan as both their spiritual leader and healer. They carry out their responsibilities to the gods once every half-month, meeting together to discuss matters privately and share dreams with the gods. As a healer, they handle diagnosis and treatment of both illness and injury for all the cats in the Clan.
Izumi | 23 human years | Female
Alluring, tender features have been doled with unimpaired ease throughout the entirety of her delicate figure. Discoid, aegean optics, set buried within their sockets, exude a passionate, motherly smolder. She sports a luxuriant, silvery pelage, the purity of the color solely being disrupted by additional specks of a blackish tinge. Her nose ridge has a sloping aspect to it, highlighting her visage with a rather wise impression. Ears rest daintily upon their hinges yet are somewhat too large for her cranium. As a result, their extremities often droop downward. Curvilinear limbs flow from underneath her, rather average in length, though not terribly so. A whipcord of a tail trails behind her, complementing her overall sylphlike physique.
Timid wouldn’t quite be the word to describe Izumi. Perhaps discreet or intimate would pose more of a correlation given her wily nature. Though innately gifted in the art of healing, she often has troubles socially connecting with her patients. Coupled with a sense of unforthcoming and an overall taciturn psyche, this makes for a rather awkward scenario - given patients typically do away with time sparking a conversation with their caretaker. For this, she often remains silent, deciding it better to simply get to the point rather converse. This persona does little to change when exposed to a familiar, though one is to notice she’ll become a bit more loquacious.
She has a certain dislike of water and does her best to avoid it.
❀ H E A L E R' S N O V I C E ❀
The healer's novice is the cat that is being trained to follow in the pawsteps of the healer, learning healing and spiritual lore from them. Medicine cat apprentices also accompany their mentors in their visit to the Moon Shrine every half-month to receive dreams from Amaterasu.
Tarou | 12 1/2 | Male
Tarou is a shrewd young male with a kind demeanor as sweet as the satonishiki cherries. His pelt is made up of brown, with darker tabby stripes racing throughout. He is small, like any other apprentice, but he has small, robust muscles that are starting to form with time. His eyes are wide, yet slanted inwards, being a mix of green and orange. Some say he has Akiko's eyes.
Young Tarou is a fast learner, and obeys Izumi at all times. He tries his best to be a stern taciturn like her, but it always seems forced, as he usually gives off a cheerful, child-like demeanor all the time. He has a strong tendency to be distracted or awed, especially by cherry blossoms - or any flowers, for that matter - as they have been an aesthetic for him since kittenhood. He also tends to use traditional Japanese phrases, and gushes with overly-polite vocabulary whomever he is around, be they kitten or a wise one. He is very attached to Lady Akiko, not knowing that he shares her blood.

A samurai is a cat trained in the arts of battle. All samurai are fiercely loyal to the Bushido code and uphold an air of honor. Samurai make up the bulk of the Clan, and provide it with the protection and food supply that keeps it safe and well-fed. They promise to uphold the Bushido code and protect and defend their Clan, even at the cost of their life.
Rukia | 22 | Female
Rukia is a large Bengal she-cat with a brown spotted, marbled coat. Her eyes are a pale green-yellow color with an almost constant dead stare.
She is rather selfish cat, believing that any cat incapable of caring for themselves should be left to die. She is very dedicated to the bushido code, and would never, ever consider breaking it. Rukia does not understand love, and sees it as a weakness that must be avoided at all costs. Despite her abrasiveness, she she has a soft spot for kits deep inside, and wants to be a mother.
Kaihime (Kai) | 20 | Female
Ragdoll in breed, Kai has a medium-sized build with silky semi-long fur and a plumed tail. Faded brown points cover her face, plumed tail, and large paws. Her pretty eyes are a mixture of green and bright blue.
Kai is a she-cat raised since birth to be a samurai. Wanting to protect her family back in the Hojo Clan, she fights with daring, masculine pride. However, she secretly desires to live as a normal she-cat of her class. Most cats in the Clan call her a "bear" because of her tomboyish and barbaric attitude. She has adopted Hayakawa as a "little sister" of sorts, as the two are very close and desire to protect their former Clan.
Hayakawa | 19 | Female
Hayakawa's pelt is simplistic - a white canvas with two large orbs that are the right shade of sky blue. As she is an Angora, her fur is longer, complete with a feathered tail. She is a bit smaller than average, but sports longer legs and a fluffy body.
"Daddy's girl" might be the best way to describe her. She would do anything to protect her home land and her father. The delicate and refined Lady Hayakawa does everything she can to trim the stark class inequality between herself and others. Her words are perfumed with the scent of nobility yet they are kind and candid. Her composure is poised yet friendly, and she hopes to inspire the other samurai someday.
Arata | 20 | Male
Arata, the pretty boy of the Clan. This tom has a somewhat feminine build to him, but that is not to say that he is girly. His body structure is made up for by his tall stature. Arata is a Siamese mix, but the other breed is unclear. His lithe, thin body and short mahogany fur make for excellent running tools. Arata's eyes have to be the most captivating of all his features - sharp blue orb flecked with gold and green. This tom...is a bit of a hopeless flirt. He is vain and rather conceited about his looks, never going outside unless he is perfectly clean from head to toe. One could say that he's narcissistic, in a way. He often clashes heads with Daisuke, whom he secretly thinks of as a big brother.
Daisuke | 21 | Male
Daisuke is a large, robust tom with strong legs and rippling muscles. He appears to be a mix of a tabby and a Korat. His fur is very dark, almost black, with flecks of white dappling his pelt. His intimidating orange eyes pop out against his dark fur. Daisuke is a very hardworking cat who believes that one must do their job and do it right. He is rather imposing, releasing an air of authority about him. Although he can seem scary, he is actually a gentle cat who cares for others.
Yukiko | 30 | Female
Yukiko is delicate, pretty white she-cat. Her name, 'Snow Child', is a reflector of her fur. Her coat is solid snowy white with a long tail. The only other colors on her coat are her pink nose, amber eyes, and a grey spot over one eye. Yukiko is kind, motherly, and desperate. She treats all cats with respect and doesn't hesitate to give her life for SakuraClan. However, she stutters when around handsome toms. She has a crush on Hyosuke, and she often laughs evilly at her prey after catching it.
Ichirou | 17 | Male
Ichirou is a sleek, black tom with large muscles. His belly, chest, and back paws are dark grey, and his front paws are white. Ichirou also has white ears and a white tail tip. His eyes are hazel. Ichirou is gentle, loyal, and ambitious. He loves kits and watches Aoi's kits a lot. He wants to train a minari, but is too young. He has a crush on Hayakawa.
Ichiro was an only kit. Due to being a tom and having one white spot in his shoulder, he was given the name- "Ichirou" which means "One son".

Kakashi | 25 | Male
A thin, yet strong, albino Burmese tom with a short, silvery-white pelt and a gray muzzle. He has oddly-colored dark red eyes with a long scar over the right one. He wears a navy blue sash over his face.
Kakashi typically retains a languid and almost bored attitude, never getting too worked up. He tries to avoid serious responsibilities, doing as little as necessary and being modest about his battle skills. Nevertheless, Kakashi will always step up for the sake of his clanmates, even if that means showing up on time.

A minarai, or 'apprentice', is a cat training to become a samurai. They have a sensei (teacher) appointed to them at their ceremony and usually taken out for battle training or hunting.

Hanako | 12 | Female | Mentor: None
Hanako is, to put it simply, a very cute cat. Her base-fur color is white, and eyes are a soft blue in color. Despite this, she is not blind or deaf. Her form is fragile and small, typical of a new apprentice.
She's friendly to just about everyone in the Clan, and loves to play. But a downside to her persona is that she's very sensitive, so she cannot take sarcasm without feeling teased. Hanako can't control herself around attractive toms, so she becomes a flustered, stuttering mess when it comes to love. Although Hanako can be made of glass for the most part, she will not hesitate to protect a friend in need.
Mizuki | 12 | Female
Mizuki is a fairly smaller sized spotted bengal cat, but don't be mistaken by her smaller size. Being a spotted Bengal, Mizuki's coat is extremely thick and soft with light beige brown arrows decorating her creamy white fur with her stomach bearing more of the darker beige arrows. Her long tail tapers down to a darker brown point and her legs are striped horizontally. Mizuki's eyes are bright pools of light blue and almond shaped rimmed with black. Being slightly smaller than her breed is known for she has been slightly more built for speed, despite her thick coat which could add some more bulk to the lithe she-cat she prides herself on what speed she has to offer.
Mizuki is a clear-headed and brilliant young minarai who tries her very best every day. She is friendly and cheerful, always being curious and not worrying much about things. She usually tries to raise the spirits of others, making her the mood maker of the clan. However, Mizuki can also be very stubborn and rather proud, causing the young apprentice to be quite confident in her abilities, to a fault and the only nice thing about that is that she bounces back quickly when things don't work her way.
Mizuki has been told by her father that ever since she was a kitten she had a habit of stumbling outside to look up at the stats, which is a habit that has stuck with her ever since. Also Mizuki has a terrifying fear of rushing water why she is is something that she has never revealed.

Mei is a nimble cream-and-white Japanese Bobtail. He has curled ears and long legs. Mei has a bright pink nose that stands out against the black mask covering his face. Mei is a nervous, shy, yet determined young tom. He prefers focusing on training than anything for he can hunt. He has no interest in a mate or kits. Mei has an irrational fear of claws and faints at the sight of them.

Miu is a long-haired large grey tom with a single, solid black stripe running down his back. Miu takes after Mayu with his well-muscled, lithe shape and large build. Miu is determined, silent, and albeit creepy. He loves to hunt, but is an overall great fighter. Miu gets distracted when he sees sakura trees. He stalks his clanmates and knows a lot about them all. Naoki is a thin, tiny tom. He has a sturdy build, like a tree.

Aoi is a small, long-haired Ragdoll she-cat. Her face and ears appear to be squashed. Her face, back, paws, and tail tip are a much darker grey than her pale grey main coat. Her muzzle and ears are black, and her eyes are a soft sky blue. Aoi is a calm, collected, protective, kind, and sweet she-cat. Though seeming nice, if you make her mad, she will become aggressive, cold, and sassy.
She has a crush on Arata, but her mate, Atsuko, is dead. Her child is Haruki.
Aoi fears that one day she will permanently lose a kit. She takes moonlight walks often.

A kitten is a cat who has not been made an apprentice yet. They are under the age of six months, though sometimes they are held back from being an apprentice for a certain amount of time, sometimes due to injury or misbehaving. They are forbidden to leave camp, unless accompanied by an older cat, such as a samurai, a healer, or an apprentice.

Haruki takes on his mother's looks. With a pale grey coat, black patches and small ears, he stands short in stature. He has short, thin legs. Haruki is shy, timid, and always tired. He doesn't play often and prefers to stay in his nest. Haruki has an irrational fear of larger cats' paws and also hated them. He loves staying with Aoi and sleeping.

Ayame has sleek lilac fur, with fuzzier textures on her tail and face. Her face is squashed and so are her ears. Ayame is playful and calm, yet shy. She is graceful as an iris and very, very snooty. Ayame loves irises and has a strange connection to predators. She loves to play mossball.

A Wise One is a retired samurai, commander, mother, healer, or daimyo who is too old to continue with their duties. Wise Ones are taken care of by the whole Clan, and are given respect for the time they have served as samurai. They are responsible for taking the body of a dead cat out to be buried.
Yoru | 77 | Male
Yoru is a black tom (Bombay) with yellow eyes. He has a very long tail which has grown since kithood. He was discovered by the clan as a kit when he about to be attacked by a group of bakeneko. He was saved by the clan, and taken in. He became a great samurai for many years, but became a wise one a few years ago. He has on several on occasions been teased about his long tail and being accused of being a bakeneko.
He is shy around strangers, but once he warms up to them he is very kind and polite. He cares a lot about the clan and would hate to see them be driven out of their home. He prefers to not break rules and follow orders as they are given to him.
Due to his encounter with bakeneko as a kit, he fears them. However, the bakeneko seem to follow him around and think that he is a bakeneko as well (or close to becoming one). Whenever he gets sick, it is blamed on the bakeneko that are thought to be always following him trying to convince him to join them.

Tatsuya | 19 | Male
Tatsuya comes from a clan of elite ninja cats, and as such, he has the looks of one. Even though he has such a light fur color, he can still vanish into the shadows like any other ninja. His base fur of light golden-cream color is underneath fading points of what seem like golden-orange. The darkest parts of these points have faint, almost unnoticeable tabby stripes in them. Typical of a Siamese, he has an angular face, sharp ears, a skinny body, a tapering tail, and two almond-shaped eyes. His eyes are his best feature, being a mixture of sea-green and sky blue. Red makeup lines his eyelids and he wears a kitsune mask to hide his face.
Tatsuya works as a spy for the Oda Clan, and is very loyal to Nobunaga's orders. Not much is known about him, but he is known as mysterious, cynical, and impossibly fast. He excels at his job as a ninja, and can perform an assassination almost anywhere without getting caught.
Meiko | 20 | Female
Meiko is a light brown she-cat with amber eyes, with an appearance similar to a Burmese. She looks like this. She lives around humans, but doesn't have an owner. Rather, the many humans in the area take care of her. She lives not too far away from The Bamboo Trail.
Meiko seems to always be entertained by something, usually something that has caught her interest. She loves music that the humans make, and sometimes tries to sing along. Since she has been around humans for so long, she has learned that they can usually be trusted to be nice to her, although there have been a few rare occasions where this wasn't the case at all.
She doesn't want to be owned by a human, and fears that they will make her be a permanent member of the family. Because of this, she doesn't stay inside human homes for longer than she is comfortable with.

❀ T R A D I T I O N S ❀
Obon Festival (お盆祭り) - Done every year during summer, Obon is one of the most important traditions of the Clan. In this three day festival, the cats pay respect to their ancestors and the gods on this night, believing that their spirits come back to their homes to be reunited with their family during the festival. The bell in the nearby Ankoku Temple will not be rung until the lanterns, which represent the souls of the deceased, have been carried down the River of the Heavens. Only then is the bell rung - twice, for the dead spirits and their safe journey to Takama-ga-hara.
Sakura Matsuri (桜祭り) - This festival is the biggest and most important of them all. Beginning on the first day of spring, The Festival of the Cherry Blossoms lasts for a whole week, and takes 3 days to prepare for it beforehand. The samurai and apprentices will all go out to hunt for prey, bringing back as much as they possibly can and storing it in a special place. The next day, they will go out to hunt again while the kittens and mothers decorate the trees and camp with handmade flowers and bamboo poles, as well as creating ornaments and gathering ribbons for decorations that the Clan cats will wear. During these days of preparation, everyone gets to relax and have fun at different locations around the territory. Finally, on the third day, all the cats wake up early at dawn, and the temple bell is rung 5 times. The cats will celebrate Amaterasu's sunlight by day and Tsukiyomi's moon by night, eating the collected prey, dancing, and having fun with their loved ones. The festivities repeat for the following 5 days of the first week of haru, and afterwards, all the cats pray to the gods for a new rebirth of the season.
Coming-Of-Age (成人の日) - This is the day on which apprentices will become samurai. This promotion ceremony marks one's coming of age (age of majority), which reflects both the expanded rights but also increased responsibilities expected of new adults. The cats are expected to look and dress formally for this occasion.
Marriages (結婚式) - Marriage is a very large deal as far as the rituals of SakuraClan go. A matchmaker would usually choose the mates so both cats would know beforehand. But other times, a young tom would typically visit the young she-cat of his choice and ask for her hand in marriage. Should the she-cat's parents approve of their union, the young tom would be invited to a ceremony and get married when spring comes around. Before the two get married, however, they will both need to prepare for the ceremony, by giving one another flowers, decorating themselves, and conversing about the marriage to their peers. After the two are married, they will spend the rest of the night together at Hanasaki Valley, receiving their blessing from the gods.
Death (死) - Funerals are a very scared rite in the Clan. The Wise Ones will take the body and clean it before grieving, which may lasts for an hour, depending on who died. Even malicious cats get paid their grieving respects. Afterwards, the body is decorated in flowers then loved ones to the dead cat will carry the body to the River of the Heavens. The healer will pray for the spirit's journey to the High Celestial Plains while the decorated body is washed away in the river.
Becoming Daimyo (なって大名) - The new daimyo, his consort, and the healer. will travel up to Ankoku Temple. There, the healer will announce that the new leader will lead the Clan with their very lives and announce the marriage with gifts of lily flowers. After this ceremony, the two will spend the night in the temple.
The Blood Moon/Benitsuki (紅月) - This ceremony takes place on the day of the Blood Moon, also called a harvest moon. This is the sign of a very ill omen.
No cat is allowed to leave the camp, and those who are not in camp are to stay where they are until it ends. The Clan will gather briefly outside of the leader's temple, where the daimyo will utter a prayer up to the gods for protection from the evil spirits. It is said that if the Blood Moon is still visible in the sky by the next morning, then the demons are returning to the land.
❀ S A K U R A C L A N'S R E L I G I O N ❀
'StarClan' and 'The Dark Forest' do not exist. Instead, the cats follow a traditional Japanese religion called 'Shinto', or "the way of the gods". The Great Celestial Plains are where the gods live, while Yomi, the Underworld, are where the evil spirits and demons reside.
The gods take on cat forms instead of human ones; because if they showed their true appearances, it would most likely scare the mortals. The gods never show their faces, nor do they have descendants. The healer and daimyo are more likely to see them in visions or dreams, but even then, it's very rare to communicate with a god.
- Amaterasu Oo-kami is the benevolent goddess of the sun and ruler of the universe. She is the most respected deity in SakuraClan. Amaterasu was seen as a beautiful golden Siamese with sharp yellow eyes.
- Tsukiyomi, one of Amaterasu's brothers, is the god of the moon and darkness. He appeared as a dark grey tom with silver stripes and pale blue eyes.
- Ryuujin is the god of the sea. He symbolized the power of the ocean and was able to shapeshift into a dragon. He takes the form of a blue Korat with a long tail and blue eyes.
- Omoikane is the god of wisdom and knowledge. He was is always called upon to "ponder" and give good counsel in the deliberations of the heavenly deities. He was seen as a young, gray Burmese with yellow-green eyes.
- Hachiman is the god of war & strength, and his appearance matches his symbols. He appeared as a tall and well-muscled brown Dragon Li with sharp amber eyes.
- Inari is the goddess of foxes, harvest, and fertility. She was thought to appear as a pure white Angora with an elegant, fox-like build and gentle teal-green eyes.
❀ B E C O M I N G D A I M Y O ❀
- - When a cat becomes daimyo, he or she must travel to the Moon Shrine and share tongues with the ancestors and gods of the High Celestial Plains. The Clan's healer accompanies them on the journey but leaves them alone for the ceremony, in which the cat is granted eight extra lives and a new name with "Lord/Lady" at the end.
This process can be surprising and painful, but it is important for the new leader to be able to fight fiercely for their Clan and live long enough to pass along their wisdom and prepare a new leader. After touching the Moon Shrine, the cat cannot move for a short period of time, because their old life is being ripped away so they can receive nine new ones. During the ceremony, each life is given to the new leader by a cat whose life was significant to them in some way.
When a daimyo loses a life, they black out for a short period of time, during which that cat visits the Celestial Plains and speaks with their ancestors. On returning to consciousness, the daimyo must recover from the injury or illness that felled them. Healers can usually tell how many lives a daimyo has left, though it is often kept a secret from outsiders and, in a lot of cases, the Clan itself.
Life-Giver: [ Touches nose to the top of the new daimyo's head ] With this life I give you [ gift ]. Use it well (to, in, as, for, etc). [ use of gift ] x9
When all of the lives have been given, normally Amaterasu herself says these words:
Amaterasu: I hail you by your new name, Lord/Lady ____ Your old life is no more. You have now received the nine lives of a daimyo, and the gods grants you the guardianship of SakuraClan. Defend it well; care for the young and old; honor your ancestors and the traditions of the bushido code; live each life with pride and dignity."
During the ceremony, nine lives are given to the new daimyo. Those lives are virtues or traits that they might lack in and aims towards making their leadership fair to all cats they lead. Getting nine lives does not necessarily mean that a daimyo will live longer, but they can survive certain accidents or injuries that would claim the life of a normal cat. However, they cannot survive if they have major injuries.
❀ C O M M A N D E R C E R E M O N Y ❀
SakuraClan's commander is chosen by the daimyo, to assist in taking care of the Clan. To qualify, a samurai must have had an apprentice and must be strong and brave, with the qualities needed to take on leadership of the Clan if necessary.
According to the bushido code, when a commander dies or steps down, the daimyo must announce a new one before midnight.
Commanders stop their jobs if:
- the daimyo dies, leaving the commander to take over as leader.
- the commander retires and becomes an elder.
- the commander commits a crime against the bushido code and is demoted or driven from the Clan.
- the commander dies or is killed in battle.
If the commander deputy dies:
Daimyo: "I say these words before the body of [ fallen commander’s name ], so that his/her spirit may hear and approve of my choice.
[ New commander’s name ] will be the new commander of SakuraClan."
If a commander retires or there's a new leader:
Daimyo: "The time has come to appoint a new commander. I say these words before the gods, that the spirits of our ancestors may hear and approve my choice. [ Name of cat ] will be the new commander."
❀ S A M U R A I C E R E M O N Y ❀
Samurai are the lifeblood of the Clan. They patrol the borders, keep the fresh-kill pile supplied, and defend their Clanmates against attacks from enemy cats or predators. They fight to protect the Clan for as long as they are able and are often called upon to mentor apprentices, passing on the skills they were taught.
Daimyo: "I, [ name of daimyo ], leader of SakuraClan, call upon my ancestors to look down upon this minarai. S/he has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him/her to you as a samurai samurai in his/her turn. [Name of apprentice], do you promise to uphold the bushido code, and protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
Apprentice: "I do."
Daimyo: "Then by the powers of the heavens, I now pronounce you as a true samurai of SakuraClan. The gods honor your [ characteristic of cat that stands out ] and your [ another characteristic ] and we welcome you as a new samurai." [ daimyo rests muzzle on cat's forehead ]
New Samurai: [ licks daimyo's shoulder respectfully, then bows low ]
❀ M I N A R A I C E R E M O N Y ❀
Before a cat can become a samurai, he or she must be trained to fight and hunt and defend the Clan. At the age of six moons, kittens leave the nursery and become apprentices. The daimyo assigns each apprentice a sensei -- an older samurai to guide the apprentice on the path to being a samurai. Apprentices are responsible for chores around the camp, such as tending to the elders, in addition to their training. If they work hard, listen to their mentors, and live by the bushido code, soon they become samurai, and hopefully, one day, the chance to be a sensei themselves.
Daimyo: "I've called you together for one of the most important moments in the life of a Clan; [ Name of kitten(s) ] has/have reached his/her/their sixth moon, and it's time for her/him/them to become a minarai. [ Name of kitten ], may Great Mother Amaterasu be your guide. Set your on the path you must follow to become a samurai."
[ Beckons cat that was chosen to be the new sensei. ]
"[ Sensei's name ]. You will be the sensei to [ name of apprentice ]. You are [ qualities that the cat is good at ]. I know you will pass these qualities on to [ apprentice's name ].
[ Sensei and apprentice now must touches their noses together. ]
❀ H E A L E R C E R E M O N I E S ❀
Most healers are born to their destiny. From a young age, these special kitten are drawn to the healer den. They are fascinated by the herbs and often have strange dreams of their own. A healer can spot which kitten would make a good apprentice. If the kitten agrees, he or she is brought to the sacred Moon Shrine and initiated into the ranks of healers through a secret ceremony.
The life of a healer is not easy, but it is very rewarding. Although healers cannot have a mate or kittens, they are beloved and respected by the whole Clan. They devote their lives to protecting their Clanmates in a way that ordinary samurai cannot. And they know that there is a special place waiting for them in the High Celestial Plains.
Healer Ceremony:
Former Healer (Sensei): "I, [ Sensei's name ], healer of SakuraClan, call upon my ancestors to look down on this apprentice. S/he has trained hard to understand the ways of a healer, and with your help s/he will serve his/her Clan for many moons. [ Name of apprentice ], do you promise to uphold the ways of a healer, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan, and to protect all cats equally, even at the cost of your life?"
Apprentice: "I do."
Former healer: "Then by the powers of the heavens, I now pronounce you as a healer. The gods honor your [ characteristic that stands out in that cat ] and your [ another characteristic ]. Now it is time for you to share tongues with the gods as a full healer."
[ New healer is to touch nose to the Moon Shrine. ]
Healer Apprentice Ceremony:
Healer: "[ Name of apprentice ], is it your wish to share the deepest knowledge of the gods as a SakuraClan healer?"

The life of a samurai is difficult and dangerous, and many die young -- in battle, of disease, or from a natural disaster. Those cats lucky enough to live a long life may eventually retire from their samurai duties to become elders. These elderly cats are viewed with the deepest respect by the rest of the Clan. Many months of experience make them an invaluable source of advice for the Clan daimyo, and they keep alive Clan history by passing down the old stories.
Daimyo: "[ Elder's name ], is it your wish to give up the title of samurai and go join the elders?"
Elder: "It is."
Daimyo: "Your Clan honors you and all the service you have given us. I call upon the gods to give you many seasons of rest."

The cats of this RP are slightly more humanized, of course. So you must put your cat's age in HUMAN YEARS. Not cat years, not moons. Human years. This makes it easier to do instead of trying to find a suitable age in months. c:

❀ Healer: Regular samurai age, usually 18 - 22.
❀ Healer's Novice: Regular apprentice age, usually 12 or 13.

❀ Description - Alluring, tender features have been doled with unimpaired ease throughout the entirety of her delicate figure. Discoid, aegean optics, set buried within their sockets, exude a passionate, motherly smolder. She sports a luxuriant, silvery pelage, the purity of the color solely being disrupted by additional specks of a blackish tinge. Her nose ridge has a sloping aspect to it, highlighting her visage with a rather wise impression. Ears rest daintily upon their hinges yet are somewhat too large for her cranium. As a result, their extremities often droop downward. Curvilinear limbs flow from underneath her, rather average in length, though not terribly so. A whipcord of a tail trails behind her, complementing her overall sylphlike physique.
❀ Personality - Timid wouldn’t quite be the word to describe Izumi. Perhaps discreet or intimate would pose more of a correlation given her wily nature. Though innately gifted in the art of healing, she often has troubles socially connecting with her patients. Coupled with a sense of unforthcoming and an overall taciturn psyche, this makes for a rather awkward scenario - given patients typically do away with time sparking a conversation with their caretaker. For this, she often remains silent, deciding it better to simply get to the point rather converse. This persona does little to change when exposed to a familiar, though one is to notice she’ll become a bit more loquacious.

In truth, however, this tom is very lonely at heart and oftentimes will get jealous of others who have living kin, particularly living parents. In an effort to curb his crippling loneliness, he trains very hard and as much as possible, having become a sort of perfectionist that seeks recognition from others for his capabilities. This has made him a very hard worker, but it has also caused him to become slightly brash and proud. Towards his loved ones, Akira is usually very loving, loyal, protective, and defensive. Unfortunately, his quick temper and ego makes it hard for him to connect with others and converse with them without getting offended, even by a little joke, although he is still an extrovert. To that end, he is extremely sensitive and cannot stand being criticized in any way, even if it is constructive, tending to pout and sulk for a long time afterwards and having a tendency to hold silly grudges over next to nothing. ❀ Personality - Ruri is a naturally shy she-cat who is polite and reserved to everyone, even those close to her. She gets flustered easily, stuttering when uncertain, especially around toms other than her littermate Kamui who she looks up to and admires. Although she is uncomfortable with anything outside of her comfort zone and oftentimes turns to her brother for assistance, this timid she-cat knows that she cannot rely on him for everything forever and as a result is always seeking to better herself and grow stronger, to be more independent. As a result, she is very dutiful and loyal to her clan as well as naive and kind-hearted, but still despite all her efforts, tends to give up easily and can be self-depreciative and pessimistic at times. She often wonders if she truly deserves to be a samurai since she is completely and painfully aware, as well as self-conscious, of her own flaws and lack of bravery.

As is typical of her breed, her fur is silky soft and she has large pointed ears. Orange, black, and cream tortoiseshell markings splash this she-cat's back, tail, and face, most notably a cream blaze near her rose pink nose.
❀ Personality - A naturally energetic and bubbly she-cat with a passion for life, Kotone is very vivacious and high-spirited. Though she loves learning new things from her sensei, her playful and high-strung nature often leave this she-cat bored more often than not. During these times, she tends to bother her fellow Minarai and sticks to the cats that she finds entertaining. Being the naturally extroverted she-cat that she is, this competitive and outgoing molly is undoubtedly the type of cat who is unafraid to approach others and make conversation, but when she gets scolded or lectured for her behavior she gets very depressed and mopey. Although fearless, Kotone is so stubborn that she often ignores the advice of others unless she deems it absolutely necessary. Furthermore, she takes very good care of her pelt and is a bit vain when it comes to her appearance.

❀ Description - Kamui is a pure-blooded Japanese Bobtail with soft, silky fur. He is somewhat larger than his littermate Ruri, but like her has a more lean and slender frame with long legs. His face is also uniquely shaped, with the same finely chiseled cheekbones, forward-tipped ears, and triangular shape that is typical of his breed. Again, like his sister, Kamui is a short-haired feline. His eyes are a dark amber, almost red, and his pelt is primarily white with some pale silver splashes on his back, legs, tail, and face.
❀ Personality - Kamui is the more confident between him and his sister Ruri. A caring and compassionate tom that is very loyal to the clan and the daimyo, he is a very sociable cat that is surprisingly charismatic. Although he will dutifully fight for SakuraClan and Lady Akiko due to his duties as a samurai, Kamui is surprisingly pacifistic and hates killing. It's not unheard of that he will freeze up if he is given the choice to kill. Despite his laid-back personality, he grew up rather sheltered by his parents and as a result is even more naive than his sister, being surprisingly quick to trust others which both adds to his charm but at the same time leaves him vulnerable to being tricked or betrayed. Furthermore, he is very stubborn and opinionated, refusing to budge on his values, particularly on peace. Consequently, Kamui can be pretty argumentative and hot-headed if he comes by someone who disagrees with him and insists on going down a violent path.

Alongside his triangular-shaped head, Shun has almond-shaped blue eyes and a slender neck which leads into his long, yet muscular body and oval-shaped paws. Lastly, he has a chocolate point pelt which means that he has the typical Siamese markings on his paws, tail, face, and ears in a more distinctive brown color than that of a seal point.
❀ Personality - Being a Chief Samurai, Shun has seen plenty of fighting for his lifetime. Although a trustworthy and loyal member of the Clan who is very passionate about defending it, he has grown battle-weary as a result of all the fighting and death he has witnessed. As a result, he can come off as rather pragmatic and cold-hearted, always prioritizing logic over the feelings of circumstances of others when coming up with battle strategies. He has a sharp tongue and a sarcastic sense of humor, and despite his wariness to fight is very confident in his own skills to the point of arrogance. Despite how realistic and focused he can be on duty, outside of it he can be rather impatient and brutally honest, not considering the feelings of others. He is also rather anti-social and keeps to himself, and is overprotective of his loved ones who are few and far between. Surprisingly, this tom has a soft spot for kits.

❀ Description - Due to her Khao Manee ancestry Yuki gives off the impression of being an athletic cat. Her long limbs and powerful muscles make her adept at jumping, and she's very agile, being able to climb high anywhere and anything, and do it fast, too. At first glance, her short fur looks almost purely white, but once you get a closer look, you can see a very faint cream coloring starting from her lower back and run down to her tail, gradually branching out in faint tabby stripes. Her almond-shaped eyes are icy blue in color. Her head is small and round, with slightly big ears and a very pink nose, followed by a creamy patch on the bridge. She has an overall soft look about her, aided by her small size.
❀ Personality - Yuki is by nature a very friendly and cheerful cat. Always energetic, she is always up for a game, or a race, or anything that's fun for her. It can be both endearing and very annoying, seeing how she's always waking up at first light, and can be very loud. Yuki can get overenthusiastic about something, as well as act in a kit-like manner. She has thick skin though, and frankly, can get oblivious to other cat's feelings, so she hardly ever lets it get to her, or even notice it. As a cat with an overall positive outlook in life, she feels that life is meant to be enjoyed to let pessimistic feelings take over, so she takes every day to enjoy it.

❀ Other - In spite of her optimistic nature, Yuki is haunted by something, though she's not aware of it: mommy issues. However, his fur deviates from the usual, being a ginger tabby-and-white color rather than the customary white. His eyes are green with a yellowish tinge at the outer fringe. He's pudgy and heavy, and not very fast, agile, or strong.
Personality - Masaki is a philosopher, a thinker, and he's very sensitive, being very attuned to his feelings. He's a strange tom, to put it bluntly; he often has a blank, unfocused look most times, like he's looking at something far off. Curious and studious, he likes to observe things as they happen; from prey habits, his companions, plants, anything. He prefers to be alone, and has poor social skills, though he knows enough to use the proper honorifics and to know who he's talking to. He maintains a calm demeanor, and it's very hard to get his fur ruffled (unless if his life is in danger of course). He loves the world with a passion, speaking with amazement as if he's experiencing it for the first time.

He is a far better hunter than he is a fighter. He's very proud of his shimmery fur and likes to keep it groomed and neat.
❀ Personality - Outgoing and friendly cat, Kyou is a very social cat. He's easy to approach and start a conversation with and continue it. Kyou is a big gossip, and he will swallow it up like it's his lifeforce; any instance of drama and trust him to be there, or to be one of the first to find out about it. In spite of that, he is a trustworthy cat, and if you ask him to keep something a secret, his lips are sealed forever, and nothing, except, maybe, the menace of death, will make him open his mouth. He's also a hopeless romantic, and instantly goes mushy when it comes to matters of the heart. He's transparent on his feelings, and has no problem whatsoever to show them like it's nothing.

❀ Personality - A soft-spoken tom, Haru prefers to listen to others and offer advice than he does asking for it. He does have a soft spot for kits, but begins to find them annoying once they near the age of becoming Minarai. He's very overprotective of his littermate, and often gets caught up in her antics, but wouldn't have it any other way. He's well aware of his talents, and works on strengthening them, which results in his late-night training sessions that he only discloses to his sister. He worries constantly about Akane's health.
