I dislike him for all the normal reasons. He did lots of things wrong, he over-reacted, he claimed that he "loved" Squirrelflight, while in reality, if you loved someone you wouldn't try to burn what you thought were their children alive and then try to ruin their lives... ect.

But I like him as a villain. I'm not exactly sure why, but I like that a normal clan cat suddenly turned into a villain because of his own twisted reality. He thought that Squirrelflight was the bad guy and that she deserved it. He's not a villain because of his past, or because he is evil, or because he wants to take over the clans. He wants to "punish someone who hurt him" and he doesn't care if he hurts the lives of his clanmates and the clan as a whole while doing that. It's new, I guess. Or at least that's how I see it. Plus he caused drama and character development in Hollyleaf and probably Jayfeather.

If he had the slightest bit of shame I wouldn't care about him. Hollyleaf ultimately did what he did but she tried to patch things up out of shame. Nothing about dead Ashfur's actions or the writers actions indicate a degree of self awareness. I like to stand by the notion that since he is dead he can't realistically repent, however nothing about starclan indicates static characters. Starclan drove Yellowfang insane.

If there's anything that grinds my gears, it's lack of priority. The ONLY thing that made Ashfur interesting at all was that he failed.

I'm neutral about him, but I hate the way it was handled... Ashfur should've said something other than his obsession with Squirrelflight and should have gone to someplace in between the DF and Starclan (he definitely did not deserve to go to Starclan, but did not do enough crimes to go to the DF either...)
