random rikey thing~
"imagine person a waking up from a nightmare. they wake up person b up and b starts to comfort them. then person a wakes up.
b has been dead for a long time."
Ray twisted and thrashed about in the uncomfortable bed in a pool of his own sweat, reliving the horrible nightmares he underwent all those years ago. The battlefield's gunshots rung through his head, the blurred memories of other men rushing in through the cold Pacific waters to their certain demise. The sounds of mines going off and the screams of agony were added into the horrible mixture, and only tormented him further in his slumber.
But one of the worst things about these nightmares were his comrade-in-arm Gerard's screams of intense horror as he yelled for his brother to get back, to not do it, to just stay there. But alas, he was being held down by his lover, Frank, and other men, so he couldn't go out and protect his family. Ray knew that was the worst of the sounds, but the worst of the sights was indeed seeing the lights fade from his beautiful amber eyes as Ray tried desperately to save him, to stop the bleeding, to do something to save the one he loved so much-
But it all failed.
Ray felt the heartbeat fade away, he could see his twisted face fall lax in death, and he swore he could see something else leave the body as well.
But suddenly, Ray's eyes opened, and he only felt his own heartbeat increase and his breathing become more and more laboured. Out of pure habit, he quickly rolled over to the other side, and felt his hands wrap around a familiar body next to him. With a couple of shakes, the other was up, letting out a hoarse "Yeah?" as his arm whipped behind his head for a good stretch.
"I'm sorry I just, I had a nightmare." The word barely covered the experience, but soon the other was turning towards his lover and his warm and comforting arms were being wrapped around the trembling Ray. He felt instantly calmed down at this action as he looked straight into the eyes of his lover, although, finding something rather... ethereal about them. They didn't seem quite right, almost... unearthly. But tears ran down Ray's cheeks and sobs escaped his mouth all the same as he hugged back, feeling the warmth surround his trembling form.
"Right... shh... it's okay." The other whispered into Ray's ear, his soft voice comforting Ray down to the point that sobs didn't wrack so painfully through his chest. "I'm here, I've always been here... don't you worry." The other spoke, taking one hand off of Ray's barely shuddering back to run it through Ray's tangled hair, calming him down further. "Even if it looks like I'm gone." Ray found his eyebrows raise questioningly at this sentence, to which the other let out a soft laugh.
"Mikey... what?" Ray asked, his voice weak as a worried expression over his features. Mikey let out another soft laugh, a 'shh' slithering out of his mouth once more.
"I know you are lonely, but I'm always right here." Mikey said, a small, sad smile appearing on his sharp features as Ray felt a finger prod at his chest, and before he knew it Ray found his eyes opening once more, and there he was laying in his bed, completely and utterly alone.
He felt sobs rack through his weak chest as he just broke down, tears freely escaping the confines of his eyes as he buried his face into the pillow, trying to keep holding onto that dream. It had to be real. Ray couldn't be left alone. The flashbacks alone were enough to drive him to suicide. It had for Gerard, the poor man lost so much when he lost Mikey.
Ray knew these would plague him til he took his last breath, for World War II ended a while ago, but his love for his fallen comrade would last a lifetime.
