Both are awesome as heck, but Hollyleaf is definitely more interesting, better written, and has more development.

Not a fan of either to be honest... Feels like Hollyleaf is overused and that she should have had her original role as one of the Three. Also, I didn't like how Ivypool's main character was "jealous of my special sibling" (even if she grows out of it and said sibling loses her specialness later). But I voted for Hollyleaf just because I feel like we see more of her.

I didn't realize how great Hollyleaf was until she died and the pacing got super messed up because Jayfeather and Lionblaze were fine with just sitting around doing nothing for six books. I hate how they pretty much became background characters after Dovewing and Ivypool showed up. Power of Three could've probably ended cleanly in one arc if the Erins had planned out their story a little better, but I guess now we have the Dovewing love triangle. I'm Dying Inside Yay!

How is Hollyleaf better written when she returned only to die a book later? the amount of time a character stays around has nothing to do with how well theyre written. plus im sure most people are thinking of her character arc in pot rather than oots

Hollyleaf. Still pissed she died. Yeah but you have to admit that the Erins would have ruined her and made her stay in the background like they did with Lionblaze /: I dont like how they killed her off but the Erins would have destroyed her character into a bland and predictable character. They ruined Ivypool too by making her a bland character.

While I do think Hollyleaf is the more developed character I never found her very likable... on a list she'd probably be between hate and dislike, though tending more towards dislike I'd guess. After she came back in OotS#5 she seemed to be redeeming herself and I thought maybe I could like her a little bit now, especially since she was still loyal enough to help her clan undercover in Hollyleaf's Story... buuut then she had her cowardly cop out when Brambleclaw gave her an alibi about Ashfur's death and I resent her for that, though I do acknowledge that she did help her Clan when she came back just like she did when she was still in the tunnels.
Ivypool on the other hand I do like, though to be fair I only did after she got over her jealous, unreasoning phase. I think she did her job as spy wonderfully (though I do sometimes wish she weren't so stubborn when it came to sharing what she found out, but hey at least she told Firestar everything in the end)

Why not both
I enjoy both characters for different reasons. Hollyleaf does have some nice character development between POT, HS, and OOTS when she returns. I was sad that she died though. I'm also really annoyed how Jayfeather and Lionblaze didn't seem to give two shits that she died either. Like they didn't even seem that upset, and had little to no effect later on in BS. That really bothered me tbh.
Ivypool I also like for her development, and just her character. Even though she wasn't one of the three, she did do more than them most of the time. Her attitude changes from this resentful/jealous character, to a mature and brave one. She manages to grow up and focus on the bigger issues with the DF.

But I felt that the Erins tossed it after she left, and even more in her side story, then buried it after she died only a book later following her return. I'm not saying Hollyleaf isn't well written to a certain extent, but I never really thought of her as one of the best written characters overall.
