This is set in a fantasy made-up town in the Northeast. Maybe Ohio? The point is that we can make up stores and places around the area as we go, with no relation to real places.

13 year old Preston Diener leaned across the backseat and punched the shoulder of his older sister. "Leigh, we're almost there." He said loudly, breaking into her sleep. The 15 year old girl swatted his hand away with an annoyed whine, sitting up and rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. She'd fallen asleep in the car. Glancing out the window, she looked at the street sign and confirmed that they were now turning onto the street of their new house. Her sleepiness was replaced with excitement as the car stopped in front of the yellow three bedroom house they were renting. "Mom, give me the key." Preston reached into the front and practically snatched the house key from his mother, jumping out of the car and running up onto the porch. He opened the screen door and unlocked the front door, stepping inside. This was the first time he and his sister were seeing the new house in person. His mother had made a trip a few weeks back to bring most of their stuff.

Sixteen-year-old Dante was perched at the window seat, as usual, sketching in his beat up, black-covered sketchbook. His black hair fell across his eyes, a ragged fringe sweeping permanently over his left eye to hide it. His skin was a warm caramel, straight from Italy. His father and twin sisters had moved here themselves only a few months ago, and Dante still carried a rolling, luxurious accent that had a foreign lift to it. Friendly, but different. Pleasantly.
When the Dieners' car had pulled into the drive way, he had glanced up from his sketch, letting the pencil roll into the binding of the paper. The eye that was visible was a warm, deep brown, respectful and open. He quickly shut his sketchbook closed, taking his combat boots off the window sill and standing up. For sixteen years old, Dante was rather tall, hitting just at six foot, one inch. He walked quickly downstairs, where one of his sisters - Who went by Tim - was playing a video game with their dad. They were playfully arguing, trying to sabatoge each others streak. "Papà, the Dieners are here."
"Go say hello, son. I'm sure they could use a welcoming face."
So with that, Dante had waltzed across the street, the slits at the knees of his black skinny jeans showing a bit of his tan skin each time he took a step. He wore a plain white t-shirt, just slightly fitted, and a leather chord around his neck that held a metal cross. "Hello, Mrs... Diener?" He asked respectfully, making sure he stopped a respectful distance away. His rich accent flowed from his tongue like water over a creek bed, and he gave her a welcoming smile. "Welcome to the neighbor hood. I was just wondering if you would need anything while you settled in? Oh, sorry - I'm Dante Rossi. I'm your neighbor."

Mrs. Diener stepped out of the driver's seat and looked up at the house. She'd already gotten most of their stuff inside, but the car was packed with a few boxes, mostly things from the kids' rooms that they hadn't packed up until last minute. "Leigh, start bringing this stuff in." Hearing the young man's voice, she turned to face him and returned the boy's smile. "Oh, hello. Thank you so much, it's nice to meet you." She was flattered that he was nice enough to greet them. She'd met a couple of the neighborhood families earlier that month. Leigh stepped out of the car and grabbed a box before shutting the door, noticing the boy walking towards them from across the street. She couldn't help but stare for a few moments. He was tall and dark, and as he spoke she noted that he had such a lovely accent. Probably not from the area. "Hi. I'm Leigh. Do you live over there?" She asked, curious as she looked across the street. He seemed friendly and although he was tall he was probably around her age. It would be nice to make a new friend who lived close by.

"Yes, ma'am. With my sisters and Papà. Hello, Leigh; I'm Dante. Yeah, I live just across the street from you, neighbor. Let me help," The italian boy gave a charming smile once more, leaning into the car and easily lifting one of the heavier boxed, his arms toned as he ducked back out. A breeze brushed by, whisking his hair away from his left eye. He quickly glanced down - unlike his dark chocolate right eye, his left was a piercing, shocking blue; caused by heterochromia, it have him an odd appearance. Once his fringe settled back into place, he read the label on the top of the box - Leigh's room.
"Where to?" Dante asked, tapping the box once with a single finger for humorous emphasis. "I remember being new - settling in alone isn't fun." He gave another smile, his one visible eyes twinkling cheerfully as he listened to the directions. "I'll be back out to help with the other boxes, if you'd like." He quickly followed the instructions, carefully stepping as to avoid anything loose underfoot. Setting down the box in a out-of-the-way place in the room it belonged, he quickly returned to the drive way. The cross against his chest caught the light, flashing once. "If there's anything we can do, just let us know. By the way, we're from Italy and all of us are cooks, so don't hesitate to just randomly stop by for dinner. Tonight. At six," He grinned playfully, "First meals are a bit hectic, so we've already made extras for you three."
Their other neighbors had told them about the Dieners moving in. The Rossi's had immediately gotten to work, bustling around the kitchen and preparing the meal. It was true that the four Rossi's were cooks - Dantes father was a professional chef, and had passed down some of the lesser skills to his children, especially the eldest; Dante himself.

Leigh was about to deny the offered help, not wanting to bother him, but her mother was already thanking their friendly neighbor and Dante was leaning into the car and taking out a box. As he stood up straight and the breeze rustled his hair, she caught sight of his eye and found herself staring again. Sure, it might be a bit strange for him to have different colored eyes. He obviously had heterochromia. Yet she thought it was fascinating and quite a beautiful sight. Much more interesting than her plain brown eyes which she inherited from her mother. At least Preston got their father's blue eyes. "Um..." A blush tinted her pale cheeks as she glanced down at label on the box Dante held. "Just take it upstairs and set it in the hallway." She instructed, heading towards the house to out the box she carried in the same place. They didn't decide which room she got and which room Preston got yet. "Yeah, I'm a little nervous to be the complete stranger around here." She admitted as she put the box in its place and started back outside for another. "Oh, that's so kind of you!" Mrs. Diener exclaimed as they came back out. "It sounds great. I suppose we can't decline such a generous offer, right Leigh?" The girl nodded quickly in agreement, excitement rising inside at the thought of having dinner with their new neighbors.
The screen door slammed and Preston hurried back outside. "I already picked my room." He announced. When he and Leigh were arguing about it in the car they played rock paper scissors and Preston won, so he got the privilege to pick his room first. He grabbed a box from the car and looked curiously at the stranger helping to carry things inside. "Hey." He greeted casually.

"Hey, kiddo," Dante said, his rolling italian accent shifting to a more young-teen appropriate tone; a bit more playful. "Congrats on the room, i remember when I got first pick to. My sisters still hate me and try to drive me out. Hint hint Leigh - zip tie a febreeze trigger down and toss it under his bed." He gave the girl a playful wink before looking over at Preston, then glancing at the box. "I'm assuming this belongs to the younger one. Alright, how do I get to your room?" Dante asked Preston, before following the kid into the chosen room. "You know - Preston, is it? - my sisters are around the same age as you. They're both twelve - twins, actually. I can introduce you to them when you three come for dinner. I hope you like video games."
Once Dante had finished with his help, the boxes all inside and in respectable places, he gave another friendly, polite smile. "Well, I better go back for now. I promised my sisters that I'd play a few rounds of Dungeons and Dragons with them before we did our chores. See you around six," With one last, charming smile, he waved goodbye and jogged across the street. Seeing him from the window, his twin sisters bolted outside along with their giant Great Dane. Tim and Tam tackled their older brother onto the soft green grass of their front lawn, wrestling around. Dante's rich laughter traveled across the street along with his sisters giggles. They playfully threatened each other in Italian as they wrestled, the massive dog bounding around the writhing mass of siblings. Dante was eventually pinned, his two blonde sisters pinning his arms onto the grass as the dog went mad pouncing at his feet. "I'm dead!" Dante cried playfully, but it faded into cheerful laughter as his sisters kissed his cheeks. Standing up, he put an arm over each of their shoulders, holding the door open for them and their dog before entering himself, with a final wave over to the naw family before shutting the door.

(( sure ))
Leigh picked up her phone from the floor beside where she was sitting, checking the time. Almost six o'clock. Standing up, she kicked the box of clothing she'd been emptying into her dresser against the wall so it was out of the way and grabbed her hairbrush. Standing in front of her wall mirror that leaned against the wall, not yet hung up, she ran the brush through her hair so it didn't look so messy. She decided to leave it down. She hardly did anything with her hair, she simply liked the way her brown waves looked when she let them loose over her shoulders. Her hair almost reached her elbows, but not quite. The young girl paused and looked quickly over her outfit. She was wearing a pair of pale pink skinny jeans, a loose dark gray no sleeved top, and her black converse. No need to change, she looked fine. She hurried down the stairs, checking Preston's room on the way but it was empty so she assumed he was already downstairs. "I was just about to call you down." Her mother was by the door, looking like she was ready to go. "Preston's waiting outside, let's go." With a nod of agreement Leigh walked outside with her mother, stepping off the porch and looking around the street with a small smile. It was strange stepping out of the house and met with unfamiliar surroundings.
Preston was several houses down the road, petting some man's dog. He had no hesitation greeting the stranger and asking to pet the dog, waiting for his mother and Leigh to come outside. "I live right there." He said, motioning to his new house. "Oh, do you?" The man smiled politely, but he was more interested in something on his phone. "Yeah. We just moved in." As the boy said this, his mother called him over and he said a quick goodbye to the man and his dog, running over to join his sister as they walked across the street. He was wearing a pair of loose black shorts and a plain yellow t-shirt, his curly light brown hair a little messy from running around in the backyard. He ran ahead of the others a bit so he got to the front door before them, knocking and stepping back to wait for an answer.
