I really don't get it, either. I get they all just wanted to help their Clans by becoming stronger, but come on! Ratscar and Thornclaw especially should've suspected that something was wrong, considering they both actually lived through Tigerstar's terror and both of Thornclaw's sisters were injured partially because of Tigestar. Then again, the same goes for Bramblestar when he trained with Tigerstar.

It doesn't even look like a friendly place either. I mean, StarClan cats don't really kill their own members.
It's just bad writing. They never explained Ivypool's physical and emotional health for being awake all day and night in the Dark Forest, Ivypool honestly should have known from the start that Tigerstar never changed, Cinderheart's reincarnation was never really even that but she was simply being possessed, pointless forbidden love drama to give Dovewing "development" and so on.
There's just so many unexplainable things that happened in OotS. How did the Dark Forest warriors break through the real world, as if these characters being dead was pointless now?

We know that Ivypool and Blossomfall knew and Breezepelt, Redwillow and Tigerheart also probably did. Antpelt ended up being evil, so he might have known as well. Birchfall was probably in the dark as he praised Ivypool for being there. Beetlewhisker obviously didn't know and judging by Applefur's reaction to Beetlewhiker's death, she didn't know either. As for everyone else, I have no clue.

Yeah, I was that it was odd that they didn't understand what was going on... But at the same time, the dark forest preys on their weakness and vulnerable moments. They take the darkest thoughts of cats and amplify them into something 100 times worse... It's something that can happen with jealousy and other things that are not treated (and knowing the Warriors world it wouldn't be).
If the cats training in the DF were consumed by some sort of dark thoughts and having amplified, they wouldn't exactly be thinking straight. And if they weren't thinking straight and only concentrating on getting strong and manifesting dark thoughts, then they wouldn't rebel.
Honestly, I feel like all the Dark Forest trainees should have stayed on their side… It would have made the recruiting the living have more meaning, and make the battle more tragic because they would be fighting against friends and family, along with the whole idea of them being consumed by their own warped dark thoughts…

I guess this just goes to show how well a cat can be manipulated.
