Loretta arched a dark eyebrow. "Oh, as opposed to you, who clearly has pandered with every eligible girl in the kingdom?" she challenged, marching up the stairs. She had to admit, it was kind of fun to let him follow her. Like she had her own personal assistant--or admirer. She rolled her eyes at herself and kept walking.
~~~~~~~~~
Augustus grinned and let the girls sort out the names. He smiled and nodded to Cordelia, hoping she didn't resent him much for having drawn her out of her comfort zone. In his defense, though, she should probably get used to the testing of those boundaries.
~~~~~~~~~
Miranda pursed her lips for a moment, the looked out over the green toward the stables. She raised her cool glass to her mouth and took a sip. "You are of course welcome to visit and ride the horses anytime. Our home is your home as long as you are here. Just be sure you telll the prince or the stablehands before you go."

Silently thanking Sierra with a smile, not only for agreeing, but also for changing up the conversation, Cordelia drew her gaze back to the three kittens on the blanket. Three? Where were the other two? She swiveled her head in an attempt to locate the two. The first cat she spotted was the mother, demurely basking in the sun away from all the hustle and bustle of the picnic. Nearby, one of her kittens, the cream one, neatly bathed in the sun next to its mother. One down. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear then thought better of it, and quickly untucked the strand. When she placed her hand back in her lap, a small white floof batted its tiny paws at her arm. She covered her mouth with her hand as she giggled at the little scamp’s antics before urging the kitten forward onto the blanket with its siblings.

Lilianna smiled graciously at the queen, "Thank you Queen Miranda." She blushed slightly. "Would it be alright if I wandered over there now, just so see the horses." She added in the last part so the queen would know she did not intend to be gone long.

(Lol the kittens exist in a magical world where they don't have to abide by the laws of genetics. And great job, torr!)

Patience giggled as the kitten walked over to her. "Hi... Kryslyn, right?" She asked, holding her own kitten close to her chest. "Aw, yours is so cute!" Holding her kitten, the black male whom she had named in her mind Manny, in the crook in one arm as she reached out and scratched the ears of the other. "Did you name her yet?"
Andrew scoffed. "Excuse me!" He flicked some of his sandy colored hair out of his eyes. "Don't you dare act like you never wished you were one of them." the guard teased, following the maid to... wherever she was going. "So to what adventure are we off to."

"Um--it's kind of a pretentious name." Kryslyn reached out and held the kitten closer, in between her and the other girl, as if the little animal was some kind of shield. "But Evanescent. Eve for short." Eve mewled and attempted to climb up Kryslyn's arm. She clicked her tongue and held the kitten back against her chest. "What did you name yours?"

"I like that name, she looks like a little Eve." Patience's kitten had fallen asleep in her arm, his fuzzy black hide rising and falling as he breathed. "I named him Manny... He's goofy enough for the name to work." The Selected girl smiled, looking down at him. "He's asleep now, though.:

Ellie made her way over to the other ladies with her blanket. "Oooh, kittens! Can I hold one?" She smiled excitedly, setting up her blanket in an open spot between a few of the girls. "Has anyone named theirs yet?"

Tigerlily: The queen took a moment to consider the request. Technically, Lily ought to be asking Augustus, not her. She glanced over her shoulder, then back to the younger girl. "I think Augustus would like for all you ladies to be here when they activities begin. But you may certainly visit the horses if you wish. I will tell him you needed a private moment, if he asks," she answers, a small, secretive smile on her lips.
Sky: "Oh, yes, my dream has always been to be one of meaningless dozens," Loretta shot back, turning left down a hall. "And don't you dare tell me what to do, Officer." She stopped at the doors to the prince's suite and turned to push against it with her back, glancing at the cockish guard as she did so. "Not adventure. Chores," she corrected him. "Even the Crown Prince of Illea gets his room messy."
All: Augustus laughed. "Manny, Eve, and Fable. What a variety we have." He paused for a moment, running through everyone's name once more in his dad before continuing, "I regret pulling you away from your new charges, but the staff were kind enough to set up a few games for us before the ice cream will be ready. Would anyone like to join me for badminton?" (Which I know sounds really lame but besides basketball or--ooh, maybe volleyball!--and musical chairs I couldn't think of anything else. Help!)

Layla gave an appreciative curtsy, "thank you." She turned and walked towards the stables. Memories were flowing through her as she got closer, her emotions riding high.

(Better than trying to play baseball in dresses! Ha ha! Kick off your shoes and you're fine. Like I said, the only alternative is like musical chairs. ) Augustus moved toward the net that had been set up and pulled a racket from the pile. He spun it in his hand, assuming--hoping, really--someone would follow him.

(Happy New Years guys!)
Andrew scoffed. "You think too poorly of me." He said with a smirk, walking into the prince's room after the maid. "Ah, lil Andy's room. Where do you want these?" The guard asked, motioning to the pile of sheets and pillows in his arms.

True true! lol
Happy New Years! c:
Turning her attention away from the kittens, Cordelia watched the prince stand and head towards the net. She glanced back at the other girls to see what they were doing before she stood and followed suit, assuming not playing wasn’t really an option. Picking the racket nearest to where she stood, the girl gripped it lightly and awaited further instruction. She attempted a swing with one hand, adjusting her grip to her liking.

(Happy New Years!) (I'd totally play croquet.)
Kryslyn reluctantly placed Eve down, letting her run back with her littermates, before rising and starting over to where the badminton was set up. She'd played badminton some time ago, with those ill-fated enough to be on her team--or, really, on the other team too--and it was safe to say sports were not her element. She'd stick more to reading the rules, or refereeing, or whatever it was called.
Briefly she wondered if she could ask to simply spectate and dole out the rules, but she decided quickly after that was poor sportsmanship and definitely didn't advance her chances of going on. So she let herself inspect the rackets, choose one that looked good (they all looked the same anyway), and wait for further direction.
(Kryslyn's personality is changing? She was sliiiightly OOC when talking to Augustus so sorry)

"Ah, ah, Officer Scott. You're not trying to tell me what to think again, are you? You can set those on that desk there," Loretta answered, nodding to the wide, mostly empty desk in the room. She set the sheets she had been carrying on a nightstand and promptly set to work pulling the covers and pillows off the bed. "I hate changing sheets," she muttered.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Have either of you ever played before?" Augustus asked the girls, resisting the urge to nervously spin his racket again. Why was this whole competition suddenly making him so nervous? He'd hardly ever been self-conscious or nervous before in his life--except when learning how to ride a bicycle, but that was scary for a little kid! And besides, in comparison to the girls, he hardly had anything to worry about. They were the ones who were more likely to come out of this with negative repercussions. He could only come out of it with a wife. A wife I'm in love with, I hope. Maybe Andy was on to something. Most guys grew up surrounded by women and had a lifetime to figure out which they liked and how to interact with them. Augustus had no idea how to act romantically toward a girl, and he hadn't even picked these girls.
He suddenly felt as if he were getting a headache. Dont worry. They're more afraid of you than you are of them, remember? he reminded himself.
(Don't worry, Miss Hot Cocoa Dear. I change characters all the time. It's kind of like breaking in new shoes, you know? It takes a little while before you're really comfortable with them and know what they're like.)
Lilianna walked into the stables, her eyes widening in awe as she saw the beautiful horses. She approached a black one similar to the horse she used to ride when she went riding with her father. A few tears gathered in her eyes as she gently stroked its smooth and shiny mane.
Picking up one of the rackets- or whatever they were called in badminton, she had no idea- Sierra experimentally swung a few times. "You might have to give a lesson!" She called to Augustus, spinning the racket. "I think its safe to say that most of us have never played!" She said it lightly, but it was the truth. Sierra had never played badminton... in fact, she wasn't sure if she'd ever even seen anyone play, or heard anyone talk about it. This was going to be an interesting challenge. At least I've got strong arms, She thought to herself.
Patience set her sleeping kitten down and scratched his ears before walking up to where Augustus was standing, grabbing a racket for herself. "I agree with Sierra... I doubt any of us know how!" She teased, swinging the racket back and fourth a bit before holding it up. "We don't use balls, like in tennis, right? It's the little thing with the skirt-like-thing at the end?" Good terminology, Patience...
"Call me Andy, or Andrew if you'd rather. Officer Scott makes me sound old." Andrew said, setting the sheets down where he was instructed. As the maid worked, he looked around the room, curious. "So, do you clean his room, like, every day? Because I don't think it's that dirty." This guard was always good at speaking without thinking.
Kryslyn tried to spin the racket in her hand and ended up almost dropping it, but thankfully no one was looking her way and she could pretend she hadn't done anything. Everyone was speaking, talking, blah blah blah badminton blah blah blah playing blah blah blah lessons. She found herself zoning out a little--she understood the rules and seriously doubted any further lessons would give her any advantage, so it was better to simply act like she was listening.
Augustus laughed lightly, relieved they had not left him standing there by himself. "The rules are fairly simple, at least for how we'll play," Augustus assured them. More serious players had a few extra rules, but Augustus hardly ever observed them.
Patience's description of the shuttlecock made him laugh again. He picked it up and bounced it a few times on his racket. "The shuttlecock, yes," he explained. You serve it from the right corner, and each team only gets one chance to hit it back over the net. If it hits the ground or falls out of bound, the other team gets a point. We'll play to eleven. Usually the best two of three wins, but I see no reason we can't go one-by-one for now." When he had finished speaking, he batted the shuttlecock to Kryslyn. "Lady Kryslyn, why don't you pick a partner to get us started?" he asked. She didn't seem to be paying much attention, which he assumed meant either insane boredom or previous knowledge of the game.
Lilianna smiled as the black horse whinnied at her. She slowly let it smell her hand before resting it on the horse's nose. "What's your name?" She smiled at the horse, knowing it couldn't actually answer her.
Patience smiled, twirling the racket in her hand as she waited for Kryslyn to pick a partner.
"Yikes," Sierra said under her breath. Sounded like a challenging game. She'd probably make a fool of herself, but at least it'd be fun. I wonder if this is a test in our athleticism. It was a funny thought, the prince eliminating anyone who played badminton badly.
