Is anyone else surprised by the fact that Dovewing wanted to have kits?
She had a lot of troubles during the time and she actually was thinking about kits?

I'm not, actually. I mean, if she had time for Tigerheart and arguing with Ivypaw, then I see no reason why she can't have time to at least think about having kits one day.
Seriously though, Dovewing clearly wants romance in her life and hoped to have a future with Tigerheart someday, even suggesting that he move to ThunderClan at one one and she too thought of moving to ShadowClan at least once as an apprentice. It doesn't surprise me that these feelings would extend to wanting kits.

I personally don't see Dovewing as a mother, but I agree with Mothflight.

Not really, she was thinking of the future future, not the current time. Meaning she was interested in the idea of being a mother as long as it was with someone she loved. That's pretty normal imo.
