I really think Permanent Queens deserve more respect than they get sometimes in the fandom. Like, the Clan's future rests on the kits so the first six months of their lives are crucial in teaching them the code and right from wrong and everything.
Depending on how well the Queen does her job, she's shaping the future of the Clan for better or worse. And it's not their fault if a cat turns out bad, but Queens are good with helping kits learn about the world and right and wrong from a young age.
Permanent Queens help those who are newly expecting--which is scary. Cats die in childbirth, the newly pregnant queen might have witnessed that. The whole idea of having children is terrifying and the Permament Queens are helping to a newly expectant Queen. Not to mention, they're there for when the new Queen needs to clear her head and being away from her kits for a while. A lot of my friends are young parents and they'll be the first to say that's crucial for your sanity.
Not only that but Permanent Queens can help out in other ways. Daisy and Ferncloud basically were second mothers to Holly, Lion, and Jay since Squirrelflight slept in the Warrior Den and whatnot (which tbh I find slightly annoying because hey at least pretend they're your kits and sleep in the nursery for a bit O.o) and other Queens played an important role in Clan cats' life. Like Echomist (I think it's her) from Crookedstar's Promise.
And think about this--what if there was a Permanent Queen in ShadowClan when Brokenstar was born? It would've given him a chance to have motherly affection and a relationship with someone other than Lizardstripe.
Not to mention the Queens are always helping around camp--especially when they need to rebuild and/or fortify it.
Another thing I want to talk about is what I dubbed "Nursery Warriors" which is my word for when a tom prefers helping out with kits to other duties. Does anyone else see how useful that is? To have a warrior solely dedicated to protecting the nursery and the kits and ensuring their wellbeing in ways Queens might find hard? It's pretty hard to battle while pregnant or after having given birth and the nursery is the one place they like to hit the most so wouldn't a warrior who's duty in a battle is to protect the queens and nursery and kits be of a lot of use? Think about Cinderpelt and Sorreltail--what if a warrior was guarding over them when the badgers attacked? Not to mention they could be father figures to cats with distant or unknown fathers. Would Breezepelt have been better if he had some type of father figure in his life? Who knows, maybe. They could even do things like take kits for walks when they're really energetic to ensure that they're not sneaking away from camp but instead are supervised by warriors. Not to mention they could also give other queens a break and a rest.
So. those are my thoughts. What say you?
