Young apprentice Spottedpaw is determined to become a warrior...until she realizes that to save her Clan, she must become its next medicine cat. - Blurb from Warriors Wiki
pretty sure everyone knew this but oh well it's news to me

Someone on this site here mentioned once that this premise would be okay if it means that Spottedpaw, despite desperatly wanting to be a med cat, accepts that she can't be because the clan already has two and so she instead focuses on becoming a warrior until her "realisation" (or something along the lines of this) - and if this is what is meant by that blurb then it could work... but yeah I have a strong feeling Spottedleaf will have a "warrior (apprentice) is forced to become medicine cat" story. Which is very, very unfortunate since even though I can comprehend that the job of being a medicine cat isn't very attractive, it can't be that nearly every single medicine cat was forced to do the job

But yeah, it's probably her being forced to become a medicine cat. I did notice that a lot of the 'main' medicine cats seemed to be forced into that for one reason or another? Not enitrely sure about Goosfearther and his "I see dead cats" thing, but Hawkheart(?) was warrior-turned-medicine-cat; Yellowfang had to, since she could feel other cat's pain; possibly Spottedleaf; Jayfeather due to blindness; Alderheart because he didn't hunt/fight well; Puddleshine because his clan needed one. There are probably more I'm thinking of, but I just wish that most medicine cats only went into 'the business' because they truly wanted to; not because of StarClan or something else. I know Jayfeather technically had to become a medicine cat, due to being blind, but it still bugs me.

I think she was enthusiastic because she had accepted it by then... Either that, or she was hiding how she felt...
And I think Jayfeather could have become a warrior, but he just wasn't very good at fighting. It was the same thing with Hollyleaf; she could have stayed a medicine cat, but preferred fighting to healing.

I mean she lashed out at Jayfeather once, and she gets in between Firestar and Sandstorm's relationship.

Great.
My least favourite character.
With a cliche medicine cat story.

@velvet
True, but that was after she died. There's not a lot of information on how she acted when she was alive, so maybe she hid more when she was living… In fact, I don't think anyone knew of her crush on Firestar…
And "saving the Clan by becoming a medicine cat may be different than what people are thinking…" At this time, Thunderclan really only has one medicine cat, because Goosefeather has gone mad (correct me if I'm wrong). So, they need a new apprentice, or else they won't have anyone to heal them. Plus, I don't think Featherwhisker lived that long after she was apprenticed, so she would have to take up the position pretty quickly…

On one hand, I hope it will expand her character.
On the other one though... I feel like it will lead to a lot of mistakes that contradict Bluestar's Prophecy.
