“Hearing it right from you makes it all the more meaningful.” Rosefrost purred, her eyes bright with the energy she had when she was alive. She looked between Cottonheart and Echosplash, before she mewed proudly. “In the same way Starclan saw the potential in my daughter, we see it brightly in you, Alder. But, you’re right. The timing is less than ideal. These… creatures. They’ve made this… more difficult. To see you all.” She murmured, before she brightened again.
“Cottonheart, Echosplash, would you like to do the honors?” She mewed respectfully to Earthstar’s mother and her former elder and friend. This was technically a ceremony, after all! How exciting, to actually be a part of it now!

Cottonheart looked pleased with Alder's answer, and even more so that he had made it here despite their setbacks. "Earthstar will recover, and he will continue to lead RiverClan with all of his heart. I know my son well." the she-cat winked. "He wouldn't have done this if he didn't believe in you and your true place." She mewed, flicking her ear. There was... something unexpected with this arrangement, but now was not the time for Alder to take on unexpected change. "I do believe we're ready, yes? Let's get you safely home."

Relief filled him at the assurance that Earthstar would be okay. He’d grown to have a deep appreciation for the clan leader, and couldn’t imagine saying goodbye just yet.
Alder watched as they spoke amongst themselves, wondering what they would decide.

Cottonheart looked to Rosefrost and Echosplash with a nod before beginning the ceremony. "StarClan! I call all of you to look down on this cat. Though Alder wasn't born and raised under the ways of our code, he has followed his heart and his destiny to his true calling: RiverClan's medicine cat." she blinked warmly. "His pawsteps have taken him to the place that will need him most, and his patience and wisdom in learning our ways only proves that he will be a true medicine cat. Alder," Cottonheart's warm gaze suddenly intensified. "Do you promise to uphold the ways of a medicine cat, to stand apart from rivalry between Clan and Clan, and to protect all cats, even at the cost of your life?"
(totally didn't take half of this from the newest book haha)

“Yes,” he breathed, and meant it with every part of his being. “I promise it.”
He bowed his head respectfully as the words were said, and didn’t look up again.

Rosefrost eyed Cottonheart with a vibrant gleam in her eyes, her excitable personality having not left her when she had passed in the Great Fire. She waved her tail, awaiting the ceremony to finish and for Alder to begin his new role in the clan she had loved so deeply.

"Then, by the powers of StarClan, I give you your true name as a medicine cat." Cottonheart continued, fully satisfied with his response. "Alder, from this moment forward, you will be known as Alderbark. StarClan honors your curiosity, patience, and wisdom, and we welcome you as a full medicine cat of RiverClan!" she yowled, whisking her tail and inviting the rest of the StarClan cats to chant his fully-realized name.

Alderbark blinked in amazement as the sound of his new name washed over him. He didn’t feel any different, and yet, his new name brought an overwhelming gratitude rushing through him.
“Alderbark,” he repeated happily, as in a daze. Looking right up at Cottonheart, he said, “I’ll make Starclan proud. I promise.”

Rosefrost lifted her muzzle, voice echoed by other cats as faint outlines began to appear around them. Swaths of long passed Riverclan cats seemed to flicker into sight around them, though they seemed fainter than usual, like a signal blocked. Even so, they called out the new medicine cat’s name.
“Alderbark!”

"Alderbark! Alderbark!"
Cottonheart met the new medicine cat's gaze with confidence. "You already have. We'll be watching over you, always." she purred, beginning to see Alderbark fade back into the land of the living. "Earthstar and RiverClan are waiting for you!"
