Actually....might be possible with Fernsong? Somewhat. The Erins implied a "Stay at home dad" type for Ivypool's mate, while she gets to stretch her legs now and then and still carry out warrior duties if she wanted.

I'm not sure where Erins said that, but I still doubt he is gonna become a king (I mean, he can't be a queen, right?). |

If he wanted to look after kits and expecting queens, I don't see the problem. Sure he would be unable to actually have kits or provide milk, but there's nothing stopping him from hanging around the nursery.

I think if the Erins were to write about this, it would be awesome!! I support the notion of a tom wanting to be a queen, and care for kits.
If this will be shown with Fernsong, I hope we will get to see this more.

Tbh, I don't think I'm a fan of this idea. I've never been a big fan of the permanent queens in the first place. If a cat is able to do their warrior duties then I think they should be a warrior and only become a queen if they're unable to do perform their duties.

✎ I really like this idea and apply it to original Clan role-plays. If it was put into the books, I think it could help out a lot. Kits would be given a father figure if their father is absent or deceased. If Ravenpaw wasn't going to be killed by Tigerstar, then he would probably be more suited to be a "king" than a regular warrior. There are a lot of duties permanent queens do besides watch kits. And the most I've ever seen is four at a time and they had litters all around a similar time. It also alleviates stress from the mother knowing she can step away for a moment and have someone that knows how to handle kits handle them.
Crookedstar would also have been a good "king" and maybe Brackenfur. |

I'm pretty sure the Erins are going to be doing this with Fernsong as they have implied in the past that there will be a character who's a sort of stay at home dad type while the mother focuses on her duties.

He would probably be like the guardian of the nursery and playmate to kits. He'd probably just be like Daisy or better yet Ferncloud without the ability to nurse, of course. I believe that he would be able to look after older kits. He's already shown to be fond of kits, and works great with them, so I wouldn't be surprised. He's some grade a king material. |

That's an interesting idea though I suppose the cats would just see it as something weird and tell that tom to leave the nursery since he can't have kits... Not sure how they would react if that tom's response would be that he wants to care for (his) kit/s though

I feel like it would be difficult, but it could be done. A tom could be a father figure for the Clan just like a mother, but it would be a bit tougher for the kits because he obviously can't nurse them.
I think instead that tom would be a regular warrior, but instead of caring for all of the Clan, his main duty would be to hunt for the queens and kits… Maybe he could also be taught some basic things about herbs, so that he can help the queens when they're pregnant/giving birth/nursing…
Basically, he would be a bodyguard to the queens, but probably a bit better and fighting, due to not being in the nursery all the time…
Interestingly, originally, I thought you were going to talk about transgender characters, because I was reminded of a fan fiction I read a while ago where a character was a she-cat, but was convinced he was born a tom, and the Clan tried to discourage his thinking by forcing him to become a queen… It was quite well-written, but the author never finished it…
