I never got this either. I would've been alright with Hollyleaf not being meant to be one of the Three from the very beginning, but not giving her a power just because Vicky couldn't think of one for her just feels cheap. This is why I always plan ahead before I start writing anything, especially if it's for a series.

It was hell.

If you ask me, it's some poor excuse and the reason (unless it was an intended plot twist and Hollyleaf was never planned to be one of the three) was way more embarrassing for Vicky to reveal.

Yeah, that pissed me off. I like the plot twist and all, but not thinking of a power is no excuse to throw Hollyleaf aside like that.

That would make more sense... Not to mention we already have a future telling medicine cat (Goosefeather), so it would be redundant to have one again... Especially since Goosefeather went mad (Not the same as turning evil, but still. Although, if the book wanted to show Hollyleaf’s downfall from the very beginning, what would've happened to the prophecy? Would the Three still have saved the Clans? Would Dovewing still have to be born to replace Hollyleaf?
And I always thought couldn't think of a power was a poor excuse as well… But then again, it's hard to fit magical powers into a realistic setting like Warriors (e.g. they cannot just have her breathe fire or something and call it a day), so maybe that's where the problem was…

Hollyleaf was created before him. Hollyleaf debuted in 2007 but Goosefeather didn't come along until 2009.

Really, I thought BP was written first…
But then, the Erins missed a perfect opportunity to elaborate on Goosefeather’s past (they could have had him as sort of a mentor to Hollyleaf, if she could tell the future). I mean, we got the novella, but it wasn't very good…

Judging by earlier drafts of pot, it seems that by the time the erins started writing the sight it really wouldn't have mattered if Hollyleaf had a power. In earlier drafts it was humored that Hollyleaf was going to be an evil medicine cat and /or have future telling powers. This was probably scrapped in favor of Jayfeather's character. Power of Three was always going to be about Hollyleaf's downfall so she probably would have been kicked out if she did have a power regardless. Humored?
