Crowpaw glanced at Leafblaze, hiding his disdain at her obvious panic. This was bad, yes, but that was all the more reason to maintain a clear and calm mind. What would happen would happen, and all the cats could do was their best. And even if worst came to worst, cats would join their ancestors in the eternal greenleaf of StarClan- unfortunate to be so soon, but hardly a bad fate. Still, it was not the time to point this out in front of the frightened queen, nor his place as an apprentice to criticize the full medicine cat.
Turning back to Coldfire, he shrugged. "I won't lie, the situation is... not ideal. And most likely dangerous for you and your kits. But at the same time, it IS possible for kits to come early healthy and safe. Sometimes they just... don't need as long, I guess. So all we can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Other than it being so early, though, everything seems to be going fine this far."

"Y-yknow your s-supposed to be comforting," Coldfire muttered through gritted teeth, using the last bit of energy to send some snark Crowpaws way. She was crouched down now, uncomfortable with sitting and waiting, but not wanting to be left alone either. Her breath was coming out in short, rapid breaths, only stopping breathing when she was hit by a wave of pain, but the breathing a product more of panic than anything. She might not be ready for kits quite yet, but she wanted them to be okay. Why hadn't they come yet? She had been having cramps since her talk with Amberwing, and that was a while ago. 'What if they don't come till tonight? Great Starclan, I won't make it,' she thought.

Crowpaw shrugged. "I would prefer to tell you the truth, because I know you can handle it. And as I said, everything seems fine at this point so don't panic unless that stops being true. The more anxious you are the more likely something bad will happen." He paused, watching her for a moment. "Another thing about kitting: sometimes it can take a while. I gave you some herbs for strength, so hopefully those will kick in soon."

Crowpaw placed a paw on the queen's side, waiting for a moment for another contraction before stepping back. "Not all that much longer now I don't think. Your kits should be here before moonhigh." He glanced at Leafblaze as though checking for a second opinion, though without feeling Coldfire's stomach herself there wasn't much input the older medicine cat could offer.

Coldfire shied away from Crowpaws touch, expecting the paw to bring more pain. She winced as he touched her, her entire body tensing up, the she cat uncomfortable with most forms of touch, unless it was her brother or... or her mate. She stifled any sound when the cramping came again, listening to Crowpaws input. She finally laid down, now crouching being too much for her. "I-I don't think I can make it that long," she muttered, sounding rather scared and tired. Suddenly another wave of pain hit her, and she cried out this time, the contraction taking her by surprise. She shuddered, before adding "im joking, Crowpaw."

"You'll be fine," Crowpaw replied, his tone more reassuring than before. "You're doing well. The hardest part has yet to come, but I think you and your kits will be alright." He hoped that was true. Still, he wasn't saying that just to make the queen feel better- he hated lying, or even stretching the truth, for that purpose. But he didnt feel a sense of foreboding as he often did in serious situations that later ended badly. Whether it had something to do with the prophecy of a medicine cat, or Crowpaw's natural intuation, or both or neither, the apprentice couldn't begin to guess. Regardless, he had the feeling Coldfire and the kits would be alright in the end.

Crowpaw blinked. "Stomach ache? Like cramps, or gas, or nausea or what?"

Crowpaw narrowed his eyes, thinking. "The chervil should've helped that," he murmured. Did one the other herbs have a nausea side effect that would cancel the effect of chervil? No, thay shouldn't be the case. Maybe the chervil just wasn't strong enough- after all, all the herbs were old a dried, left over from late leaf-fall at the most recent. He considered thay for a moment before coming to a decision.
"I don't want to give you more herbs unless I have to, because I don't know how safe it is. I'll have someone bring you water for now- drinking may help settle your stomach a bit. If that doesn't help, I'll get you more chervil, but I want to try that first. Besides, it's good to be hydrated anyways."
The apprentice got to his paws and stuck his head out of the entrance to the den, looking around for any cats nearby. He called out, "Hey, can someone bring some water-soaked moss?"

"Fair enough," Coldfire muttered, watching as Crowpaw was thinking. It must be nice, having the knowledge to help his clanmates. When she was younger she used to entertain the idea of becoming a medicine cat herself, but she quickly learned she didn't have the patience or tact for it, that she was more useful hunting and fighting for the clan instead of healing.
"We couldn't find any moss, Crowpaw," Sweetpaw responded. They hadn't left quite yet, but from what Fieldgrass was saying there wasn't much left to begin with.

The medicine cat apprentice let out an annoyed growl- not at Sweetpaw but at the general inconvenience of the situation. "Then find something similar, quickly!" he snapped, adding a softer "please" at the end when he realized he had sounded harsher than intended.

(I'm sorry guys, I made a stupid mistake. I took a photo instead of a video of my mom sledding on accident... and she flipped out on me. I'm grounded for one or two days. You guys can do the kitting without me, since I'm probably not going to get around this.)

(I'll put my appearance last so I can sort of fill in the traits the others didn't use. I also want to be on my computer for that so I can reference the descriptions if the kit's kin. As far as gender goes, male, name is whatever Coldfire decides)
Crowpaw shrugged, thinking. "Uh, big leaf if you can find one? Hollow stick? Hollow rock?" He winced as he heard the cry- that must mean they were getting close. Coldfire wouldn't shout out unless it was entirely involuntary. "Also, a solid stick for her to bite down on, if you can find one. Sorry I can't be more help, but please do what ypu can." He took a deep breath, calming his nerves. In the time he had been training as a medicine cat, Crowpaw had witnessed a decent number of kittings, but this would be the first that he played an active role in. He managed to remain calm, but as the kits' birth neared, he started to become nervous. He didn't want to make any mistakes. Still, he tried not to take it out on Sweetpaw- like him, she and the others would do what they could.

Leafblaze paced around the den, letting Crowpaw handle the situation. She was slightly to paniked to be of much help at the moment, and Crowpaw seemed to have everything under control. The she-cat felt a pang of guilt, knowing it wasn't like her to let her fear take control of her, chose what he cations would be. She just couldn't push it away, and she was worried it was rubbing onto Coldfire.
(I'll have to give my cat's description and stuff tomorrow. I'm planning on making her look quite like her mother.)

Coldfire shuddered, wishing Crowpaw would be back, because Leafblaze was being of no help whatsoever. Honestly it felt as if Crowpaw was the mentor, not the other way around. Whenever she turned to Leafblaze the panic returned, as she was much easier to read than her apprentice. The Queen laid her head down, exhausted, feeling as if she didn't have the energy to do anything. "Where'd Crowpaw go?" She asked quietly.
"Got it!" Sweetpaw responded, dashing off to see what she could find, wanting to help Crowpaw and the queen as much as she could. The calico spotted a large leaf nearby and grabbed it carefully, and after a few moments of searching found a stick as well. She made her way back to the apprentice and dropped them at his feet. "There ya go!" She mewed, flinching as another cry came from Coldfire, this one weaker than the last.

Crowpaw swiveled his ears toward the den, hoping the situation hadn't deteriorated too much since he had stepped out. Then the apprentice crouched down to look at the stick and leaf. "Alright, these will work," he meowed to Sweetpaw, nodding approvingly. "I'll bring her the stick- it sounds like she'll need it now. Could you either melt snow in the leaf or find water nearby? Even if she can't drink now, I'm sure she'll be thirsty when the kitting is over." The white apprentice grabbed the stick in his jaws and returned to the warm interior of the nursery, casting a glance at Leafblaze before setting the stick at Coldfire's paws.
"Sorry I took so long," he meowed. "There's no moss, but hopefully Sweetpaw will bring a leaf of water soon. For now, I have this." He nudged the stick towards her. "Bite down on it when the pain comes; it'll help you focus, and distract you from the pain a little. Are you still nauseous?"

Coldfire stiffened when Crowpaw dropped the stick. She frowned at it momentarily, head resting on her pause. She listened to the white time, flicking her ears to show that she heard him, stretching out a shaking dark paw to touch the cold, wet wood, and pulled it closer to her, ready to bite down if she needed to. "Thank you," she rasped, clearly grateful.

(Tbh the main thing I need in my life rn is fanart of Hearthstone x Blitzen from Magnus Chase. Though I'd be satisfied with just Hearthstone fanart. I don't usually look up fanart but I may do that bc I need more of my gay elf alter ego)
Crowpaw dipped his head before shifting and laying his paw once again on Coldfire's side, waiting for another contraction so he could judge how long before the kits were born. After a moment, he nodded. "Alright, get ready. Not long left now."

(Me af rn) Crowpaw glanced at Leafblaze, wishing the older medicine cat would help, even if just by helping Sweetpaw bring water. He pushed his frustration to the back of his mind, however, and focused on Coldfire, his paw still resting on her side. "Alright, push when I tell you. It'll be over soon," he meowed, trying to sound soothing, though he wasn't sure if he succeeded. (I feel like he should get his full name for this lol)

(Yeah let me think it would be Leafblaze or Spiderfang who would give him his namer rather than Ravenstar. Probably Leafblaze since she's on more and also the one listed as Crowpaw's mentor. Speaking of which, are we waiting for her before the kits are born?)
