I was thinking maybe they both become leaders of their respective clans in the time-span... and which time period is this based in? Just thinking that maybe they could drive out the Roman rule In this area? Just reading up on when the troops were withdrawn from Britain and stuff but I'm no good at time lol))

I like that idea! Also, for time periods we are looking at probably about the AD 150s or 60s because the Romans captured the Votadini tribe in the AD 148 and it's at least seven years after that. It'll be longer after the skip.
Also, how many years are you thinking?)

Enough to cause Aedan to be salty over damianos not coming back, and for Damianos to mature a bit more, and for Esca to have grown up a bit? It's up to you of course I'm honestly not fussed))

(OMG if it was like five years Esca would be 12 omg that would be amazing because Esca could have started to mature into something of a warrior. Maybe Esca is the first to see Damianos and they don't recognise each other at first?
Okay, do you want to start this or me?)

I can if you want )) Damianos silently slunk through the bushes of his forest, gaze cool and calm, focused on the large branches of the buck-deer he was hunting. He felt he recognised the area he was in; he felt a strange tug in his chest to go west whenever he came here, but he ignored it- feed the pack. Feed the pack. He leaned back his arm to ready the spear in his hand, breathing in deeply, before launching it forwards swiftly and skilfully. The buck fell the second it thudded into his chest- a clean kill. Damianos smiled and stood, walking over and kneeling at its side; he touched its neck and murmured thanks for its life- he removed the spear, cleaned it off, then sat to begin to skin it. He felt a weird sense that he wasnt alone in the woods today, but he again brushed it off; Damianos could take anything that came at him, especially if it was alone.

A boy, who looked too old to be a child but too young to be a teenager, stepped lightly as he walked slowly through the forest, bow in hand.
Esca was growing up, and his face was looking very close to what it would probably look like when he was an adult. He was tall and lithe, like most of his people. He had dark blonde hair and grey eyes, and a face that was still rounded like a child's, but hinted that he would one day have a rather defined face, with a wide jaw and high cheekbones.
The boy froze as he saw a figure he didn't recognise, stepping into the man's field of vision as he reached back to put his hand on an arrow in his quiver, a warning that he could have his bow loads and an arrow shot in a moment if he needed to.
"Who are you?"

"Who are you?" Damianos tensed and cast his gaze upwards, swiftly surveying the threat within seconds. He felt familiar warmth spread into his muscles as he prepared to transform at the slightest warning from the boy. 'Someone wanting to skin this buck and leave.' Damianos said quietly. His accent was not as thick as it was before, but still had the soft lilt of Greek. He examined the boy with a frown, feeling like he knew him, but unable for the moment to place him in his head.

"Do I-- Do I know you?" Esca asked, brows furrowed in confusion. He couldn't place the man, he really couldn't, but he knew that he had at least met him before. He was sure...so sure...but who was he?

Damianos replied, standing and taking the buck by the horns, slinging him over his shoulder. He figured he'd have a better chance of skinning him without interruptions if he returned to his camp; he'd just have to ward off the pups from it and ensure they didn't eat the meat.

That was it. The nickname brought back memories of an old friend...
"Damianos?" Esca asked cautiously, still concerned he might be wrong "Uncle Aedan misses you."
If it was really Damianos, those would be the only words Esca would need to say. Hopefully it was him - Esca had missed him a lot.

If it was really Damianos, those would be the only words Esca would need to say. Hopefully it was him - Esca had missed him a lot. Damianos froze as his name was spoken, eyes widening to the size of an owls when Esca mentioned Aedan. The second his old partners name fell from Esca's lips, Damianos dropped the buck with a harsh thud on the floor and turned to look at him. 'Esca?' He croaked, before sprinting over and lifting him high up. 'Oh, my gods, it is you.' He breathed, pulling him into a hug. 'You've grown so much...' he put him down and crouched, brushing his hair curiously from his face. 'Really grown.' He added, smiling widely, his heart suddenly overwhelmed with the need to go west- west, where Aedan's village was. That was right. He'd pushed aside memories in order to provide for the pack- Medeia had forced him to forget before she'd died. Family before all- that was the Lykos motto. But in abiding by their words, he had forgotten about his most important family of all. 'I'm so sorry.' He whispered. 'I didn't come back.'

Esca grinned with relief as he was pulled into a hug "Thank the gods I was right. It's really you."
As he moved out of the hug and listened to Damianos' apology, he shook his head "It's okay. We all missed you, but you're back now and that's what matters. You can come back with me, can't you? Even just for a little while? It would make everyone so happy to see you again after so long."
He could already imagine the joy on his uncle's face. His uncle. His poor, overworked Uncle Aedan, who worked day and night for the tribe. He had given his all to his role as leader since Damianos left. And he had somehow found the time to tell Esca the true story about what happened to him in Rome. It had been shocking for him to hear it, but he had been ready.

It had been shocking for him to hear it, but he had been ready. 'I...' His words fell away- he'd been about to agree, to throw himself back at his old family. But... he had mouths to feed himself, his own pack to lead. He glanced back at where his camp was. 'I... give... give me a day.' He said, looking back at Esca. 'My pack... I can't leave them.' He explained. 'I'll bring them with me. Perhaps... we can make some kind of alliance.' He added, feeling a surge of hope and excitement in his chest. The Lykos wouldn't have to hide in the shadows anymore; and they would provide border protection to Aedan's clan. The setup was perfect. 'Tell Aedan.' He said, standing. 'Tell him you found me, that I'm bringing my family to meet yours.' He stood, heaving the buck back over his shoulder. 'I'll see you soon, Little Bird.' He said, smiling widely, eyes bright at the thought of seeing Aedan, his Aedan, again. 'Tomorrow morning.' With that he jogged into the bushes; the fog washed through the trees and concealed him, the discreet disappearance of a Lykos.

As soon as the man left Esca too disappeared into the fog, the catches from his hitting trip not weighing him down as he disappeared.
When Esca got back to the village he put his kills with the food store and went to find his Uncle. As usual, he was in the family roundhouse, sitting by the fire as he worked on polishing a sword.
He was thirty-two now, but his face hadn't changed a bit. He looked up as Esca came in.
"Esca," He greeted in surprise "What are you doing here? I am busy. You shouldn't bother me when I am busy"
"Nice to see you too, Uncle" Esca said sarcastically
"I'm sorry, Esca" Aedan sighed "It's been a tough day. What is it?"
"It's Damianos. He's back, and he's coming tomorrow. With the Lykos"

Damianos made it back to the pack den within a matter of a few hours, dumping the buck carcass inside the small shack they used to keep prey. He walked into the centre of camp. 'We're leaving tonight.' He announced. Wolf heads and human heads alike rose, staring at him intently with blue eyes, Amber eyes, orange eyes and brown. His were the only shimmering green as the sunlight hit them. 'We go to a village in the west, to create our first alliance and take a step into society.' There were shocked murmurs and excited whispers. 'We cannot hide in the shadows forever.' Damianos continued. 'Family before all; honour over none. We live in the shadows but we live as one.' He quoted, the werewolves chanting it with him. 'We are still one if we live in the light.' He said, stepping into a beam of sun that filled through the trees, the soft warmth rippling across his dark skin. 'Tomorrow, we find a new place in this world. We take our first step for future generations of Lykos, and we become known to the world.' The pack cheered and raised their fists. Damianos, pleased with their reaction, turned to face west, a huge smile on his face. 'I'm coming home, Aedan.'

(Skipitty skip)
The next morning, Esca was awake before anyone else, and went and sat outside the roundhouse to watch the sun rise, excited to see Damianos again.
A few minutes later Aedan came out and say beside him, leaving his sisters to sleep inside the roundhouse. He looked excited but also relieved.
"I'm sorry I haven't been a great uncle these past years," Aedan said quietly to the boy "but I've been trying so hard. To run the tribe and make things right. To make sure the tribe is in a prosperous position for when you come to rule. I hope you understand that."
'It's okay," Esca replied "I understand. But I felt that you were so distant. I mean, in a couple of years I will be of age. But I feel as if I barely know you."
"I know, Esca. But there's only so much you can know about me. You might think you know everything of my past just because I told you I had been a slave, but you haven't even begun to scratch the surface. I've been through so much and sometimes it makes you feel like you shouldn't let people get close to you. Esca, seven years of slavery messed me up. For seven years I was being whipped, and I thought for seven years that my little sister had been killed and that it was my fault. I had to fight to the death all the time, Esca, and it was for a game. If those things don't make a man scared of commitment, nothing will"

(Aedan got commitment issues should he and Damianos go see a relationship counsellor XD))
Damianos silently led his pack through the trees, his shaggy chocolate-fur keeping him nice and warm against the cold of Britain. The pups ran around his feet; they never listened to the alpha, before being scolded by their mothers. They finally left the trees and Damianos saw the village in the distance, the deep fog no trouble for his keen wolf eyes. He tipped back his head and howled, his pack joining in to announce how close they were, before he continued silently on his way, placing one large paw after another. They grew closer and closer to the gates, but Damianos stopped before they reached them. The pack stayed in a small group, a few meters behind him as he sat further ahead, in front of the gates, and waited to see his Aedan again.

It was Esca who saw the wolf pack first as they approached the gates, and he pointed them out to Aedan.
Both males rose and started towards the pack, Esca picking up speed as he ran towards Damianos to give him a hug, wrapping his arms around the great wolf's neck
It was Aedan who them emerged out of the fog, his eyes settling on the large wolf around which Esca, as if reverting back to his seven-year-old self, was currently wrapped.
Aedan didn't hug Damianos like Esca, for he was so shocked at seeing him again that he froze, disbelief mixing with happiness and relief on his face.
"Damianos? It's really you, after so long?"

Damianos wrapped a huge paw around Esca's back to return the hug, head tightly over his shoulder, before he let go and proudly raised his head to face Aedan as he spoke. He stepped forwards and his wolf form seemed to melt away until he was human again. He'd grown at least an extra two, three inches during the five years, now standing at at least 6'8". He held himself with the air of someone with power, but his eyes held nothing but love and warmth as he examined Aedan quickly. 'You haven't changed a bit.' He softly said, stepping closer to gently touch his cheek, a slow smile spreading on his lips. 'I'm... im so sorry I didn't come home.' He whispered.

Finally, Aedan couldn't resist hugging, and he pulled the other man into a tight and emotionally charged embrace.
"I want to be angry at you for not talking to me in so long," Aedan admitted "I really do. But I don't think I can, I'm so happy to see you home and safe again"
He pulled out of the embrace to look at the other man properly, a grin spreading across his face.
"Dammit," He said "Stop growing. You're already taller than m"

Damianos blinked as he realised this, and his eyes lit up with excitement. 'I am!!' He exclaimed, bouncing on the spot. 'That's amazing.' He laughed. 'Nobody is bigger than you, Damianos.' Called out a girls voice from his pack, whom had mostly all turned into their human forms. A small girl around the age of Esca had spoken, and was grinning devilishly at them all. 'Well.' He replied, smiling warmly back at her. 'That wasn't always true.' 'Really?' 'Really.' She giggled and began to whisper with her friends, before running after one of the wolf pups to ensure they didn't wander. Damianos looked at Aedan, examining him carefully. 'Did you take a partner?' He asked, expression very serious all of a sudden.

He caught sight of Esca talking with some Lykos boys around his own age and smiled. It was good to see his nephew, who was quiet, making friends. He didn't know what had made him decide to make friends here, but he was so happy to see it that he didn't really want to question it, Damianos felt a huge weight fall from his shoulders and his entire demeanour relaxed, a warm smile returning to his lips. 'Why would I take a partner when the only person I have ever genuinely cared about was here?' He murmured. He'd lost his shy boyishness over the years, and appeared much more confident in the way he approached Aedan. He glanced back at the pack. 'Medeia passed away a few weeks after she'd taught me to control my shifts.' He said, referring to the transformation. 'She anointed me pack leader. Drilled the importance of it into my head, and forbade me leave them.' Sadness was in his eyes now. 'My job is to protect the young; especially our male young.' He said, nodding at the group, which was clearly 3/4 female. 'They either get sick, or die at the age of 15, when they start to shift.' He explained. 'For some reason they can't handle it as well as the females. The story goes that the goddess which cursed us with this originally cast it on a male who deceived her and broke her heart; from then on he could have only healthy female heirs no matter which wife he took, and it continued down the line.' He looked at Aedan. 'I was a rare occurrence. And we have Mishka to thank for those lovely boys that Esca is talking to.' He said, nodding at a young woman, around Aedan's age, her skin tawny and her hair a light brown. She smiled shyly over at him, then returned her gaze to her children. 'May we speak alone?' He then asked, looking at him.

Upon being asked if they could speak alone, he nodded "Of course. I was thinking the same thing, to be honest."
He led the other man into the family roundhouse, taking a seat by the fire and indicating for the other man to do the same, his hair gold in the firelight.
"What did you want to talk about, Damianos?" He asked gently, wanting the other man to start the conversation first.
He was still somewhat in shock that Damianos was really here again - he had resigned himself to never seeing Damianos again years ago, and now he was here again Aedan's heart was filled with so much happiness he didn't think he could handle it. He longed to be able to discuss his home with another Celt, and it would he an opportunity he was sure he would have before long. Hopefully, anyway - Sabina had said that he would be seeing Wila when Sabina was away with her family. So he would hopefully get to see more of the other Celt.

We need the protection and we certainly could use the boost in communications between the tribes. We would definitely be willing to provide your pack with knowledge of how we live, though of course our village may begin looking increasingly Roman before long, despite my attempts to preserve our culture. We could also help with medicine, which might help those boys in your pack who become ill. It might help to save the lives of many young male pack members though I obviously can't guarantee anything for you in terms of that, since I don't know what illnesses they get or if they are curable . But I can certainly try, so that's something. I have to say, you are making a very impressive pack leader, it would seem, if you are getting them to have involvement with my people. Like I said, we can give them anything they want"
