'Wear.' He repeated, the name strange in his mouth. 'The deer probably passed this way.' He murmured, as they emerged and came to the gushing river. He crouched, amused by its tenacity; when he looked up, he froze, seeing a pair of Amber eyes and a black tail disappear into the fog on the opposite bank. 'Was that a wolf?' He thought to himself; 'or was that a Lykos?' Brushing it off as nothing he got back to his feet. 'Alright... the tracks went... this way.' He pinpointed them and began to continue travelling, feeling nervous but in his element here in the wilds. Esca didn't notice the possible wolf and just followed Damianos, looking at the tracks carefully as they went. "Do you like it here in Britannia?" the boy asked "I guess you must miss your home sometimes." He still couldn't understand why Damianos had come here when he could have gone back to Greece, but he supposed the man had his reasons, and he might not want to share them with him yet. 'I do enjoy it here.' Damianos replied. 'It is beautiful, and I am yet to get used to the cold, but I'm sure I'll manage.' He picked up a half-eaten piece of plant life, then continued tracking. 'I do miss Greece.' He said softly, 'but it is not home without my mother there.' He smiled down at the boy. 'I'm happy enough here.'

Esca looked sad for a moment "Did your mother die, Damianos? Maybe she'll come back. Mother thought Uncle Aedan and Aunt Eoghann were both dead but they're not."
The seven year old didn't know much about death, and all he knew about it was people being supposedly dead and then coming back.

The seven year old didn't know much about death, and all he knew about it was people being supposedly dead and then coming back. Damianos flinched, silently remembering the day he'd been told; the maliciousness in the trainers eyes; stark, cold truth- and the day he'd been captured, his mothers desperate screams before they had cut off. 'She's dead.' He murmured, 'and hopefully has made it to Elysium. She was far too beautiful and kind a woman to have gone anywhere else.' He sighed quietly, pain racking his chest. He stopped walking to sit down on a nearby can tree-root, smiling wearily up at Esca. 'Treasure your mother, Esca. Protect her with your life.'

Esca nodded and sat down beside Damianos, one hand on the other man's knee as if to comfort him.
"I will. My mother loves me very much and I love her too."
Idelle had relied a lot on Esca and his father when she first lost Aedan and Eoghann and then her parents. It had been a difficult early life for Esca because his family had disintegrated around the time he was born. He didn't know what was happening, of course, but for the first few years things were hard and as a result he and his mother grew very close.

Damianos seemed relieved at Esca's response, and found he was comforted by the boy's touch. He'd definitely bonded with the kid. 'Shall we continue after this deer?' He asked, trying to cheer the atmostphere as he got back to his feet. 'When we find it, would you like to try and take the shot?'

Esca nodded "I'd like to try, but I don't know if I'll be able to take it down. It'll be a lot harder than a rabbit, I think"
He stood too, shifting his shoulders to keep his quiver on his shoulder blade as he did so. He was looking forward to hunting the deer.

It took them a full two days to find the deer; they'd set up camp twice, Damianos had taught Esca to skin his prey, and how to use each piece of the animal so none would go to waste. The deer was stood in a clearing now as they approached, grazing quietly on the watercress beside a pond. 'Ready?' Damianos murmured, slowly prowling forwards on all fours- he felt a strange urge to run forwards like this.

Esca nodded and grabbed his bow, grabbing an arrow and notching it into the bow.
The boy was a little nervous about trying to take down such large prey. He'd never take down prey this large before and he was sure he only had one shot at taking down this deer because it would run immediately after the first shot if he missed it.

'Try and aim for the eye, or the ribs.' Damianos advised him, leaning forwards a little on his forearms. The doe lifted her head and looked around, slowly moving a few steps before continuing to graze, the sunlight filtering through the trees and warming her back.

Esca nodded, doing the same thing he had done before, straightening his back, shoulder blades poking out like the stubs of wings. He took a deep breath and let the arrow fly, aiming towards the creature's eye, since it was a smaller target and he could get more confidence if he hit it.

He took a deep breath and let the arrow fly, aiming towards the creature's eye, since it was a smaller target and he could get more confidence if he hit it. The doe heard the twang of the bow and leapt forwards just enough for the arrow to miss her eye, but still thud into a soft, weak part of her neck. She released a cry of alarm and pain and took off, and damianos' eyes widened. Suddenly, he saw nothing but the doe before him; her frantic footfalls, the stench of her fear and musky sweat that covered her hide. He pushed off with his legs and suddenly he was flying as fast as the deer, his footsteps becoming lighter and lighter, easier to traverse- he felt each breath as it was drawn into his lungs, caught up to the doe and pounced, snapping his jaws and sharp fangs down on her left hind leg to hinder her movements and- wait, what?? With a panicked yelp, Wolf-Damianos slid to an abrupt halt and fell head-over-tail, landing in a massive furry bundle on the ground. The doe lay nearby, crippled and unable to continue running from him. He sat up all-a-fluster, spinning in a circle as he realised he had a tail- he had ears he could swivel, paws instead of feet and DAMN he was huge, he realised, probably about the size of that doe, if not a little taller. He swung around, eyes wide as he searched for Esca- he couldn't lose the boy, how could he turn back? What was he going to do? Had he scared him? Damianos had scared himself. 'This isn't happening,' he whined, words coming out in a strange strangled cacophony of noises he himself didn't know the language of.

Esca had at first been terrified, the boy scrambling back against a rock, chest heaving and eyes wide.
But as he saw what was happening, he wasn't so afraid. He stood up and approached Damianos slowly, plunging his hand into fur so thick it swallowed his hand whole. A moment of wonder later and Esca was hugging the wolf.
"That was amazing."

Damianos whined again, alarmed as Esca hugged him. He really wasn't sure what to do, other than properly get to his feet; the moment he did, Esca's own feet were dangling a good half-meter from the ground. Damianos turned to look at the deer, which had succumbed anyways to her neck-wound. He tried to say, 'you did it!' But all that came out was a very weirdly high pitched yip, and he snapped his jaws shut. Alright then. So he could turn into a wolf.... but how did he turn back? Now facing a new dilemma, he started to turn in circles again, barely paying attention to the hanging weight of the boy around his neck.

Esca gave a surprise yelp as he was lifted off the ground but didn't move, settling himself to sit on the wolf's back.
"I can't believe you can turn into a wolf." Esca replied "but maybe you should turn back. Can you turn back?"
He suspected the answer would be no, but it was worth asking anyway.

Esca replied "but maybe you should turn back. Can you turn back?" He suspected the answer would be no, but it was worth asking anyway. Damianos grumbled as Esca asked him the question, then looked up with a sad whine, a very obvious 'no'. He decided it would probably be best they start to make their way back- he lifted the deer with his large muzzle, then turned and began to head home. He found the weight of Esca on his back was minute; he could barely even feel him. His new strength astounded him, and he was slowly adapting to the feel of it. He calculated it would take another day for them to get home, and dearly hoped Esca had learnt enough from him to be able to set up a shelter, fire, and skin some meat for their dinner. Could he eat cooked meat? Did he have to eat it raw? Man, this was confusing.

(Okay I'm crying with happiness. I just got the grade for my Physics mock exam and it was an A. Physics is one of my worst subjects)
When it began to get dark, Esca slid off Damianos' back and found a little clearing where they could stay. He pulled together some sticks and tinder for a fire, which he started with a couple of pieces of flint he always carried for sparks.
With that done, he bag an dashing around collecting materials to make a shelter.

Sorry for poof I've been at work xx)) Damianos watched him helplessly, before realising he COULD help. He began to dig out a pit large enough for the two of them to fit in, as a base for the shelter- he wagged his tail when Esca returned, glad to have made himself useful. He needed to get back to Aedan; he was utterly lost at what to do. He hoped that maybe overnight, in his sleep, he might turn back.

(Hehe thank you x If I can just do that with all my exams...at my actual GCSEs...I'll be golden)
Esca smiled when he saw that Damianos had helped, and he began to build the shelter, making a leaning shelter our or branches and leaves, which he shook out carefully before adding them to the shelter.
Finally, there was the food, something Esca had never dealt with on his own before. But right now, he didn't have a choice.

Damianos soon found he could still instruct Esca even like this; he growled whenever Esca made a mistake or was about to do something wrong, and rewarded him with happy tail-wags when he did something right. Soon enough Esca had produced a meal all on his own, and Damianos couldn't help feeling a large bout of pride, pushing his cold nose against Esca's cheek and licking his ear, allowing him to eat first before he ate what was given to him. When they'd eaten they retreated to the shelter; Damianos' soft warmth was enough to keep the child well-insulated, and he would end up not needing to use his sleeping pack; Damianos was pretty much a bed on his own. It took them another full day to finally get back to the village, arriving just as dusk was falling over the country. Damianos sighed with relief, flicking an ear and looking up at Esca on his back. As they'd travelled, Esca's light weight had been a constant, comforting presence, and Damianos missed him whenever he climbed down. He walked through the entrance of the village, keeping his head low so that the people would see Esca first on his back, before they thought of him as a threat. Nuellan slowly backed into the roundhouse. '...Aedan... Id, Eo? Esca is back. He's. Uh.' He stared outside. 'Maybe you should just... come see for yourselves...'

He froze at the sight of Esca standing in front of a huge wolf, trying to defend it from panicking tribe members, who were trying to tear Esca away so they could deal with what they thought was a threat. "Stop!" Aedan called, and everyone froze to look at the man "don't harm the wolf!" The man approached the wolf, moving Esca with the soothing words that he would take care of all of this. He knelt in front of the huge animal so his face was level with the wolf's. "Damianos? It's alright, okay?"

Damianos had been more concerned with the tribes treatment of Esca than the fact that they wanted to kill him, and had been viciously snapping at anybody that attempted to touch the boy. When Aedan came out he calmed down almost immediately, tail and hackles lowering. He sat down in front of him and blinked slowly at his partner, releasing a low, long whine of helplessness, which was enough to convey, 'I'm stuck!' He butted his head softly against Aedan's, not really expecting the male to be able to help him.

Aedan understood somewhat the dilemma, and moved a little closer to the wolf, trying to calm him down.
"It'll be okay, relax. Think you could perhaps howl for Medeia and ask for her help with this? I don't see any way to learn how to manage this without her help" He suggested calmly.
The tribespeople were still obviously a little shocked and confused, but Aedan didn't move to explain anything. They would find out what was happening in due course.

Shaking himself with annoyance, he turned to face the forest and sat down. He took a deep breath and tipped back his head, before releasing a deep, booming, haunting howl, which reverberated through the village and echoed back to them over the moors. When he finished he wagged his tail slightly at Aedan as if to say, 'that was great.' A few minutes later, a higher pitched howl answered him, slowly joined by the chorus of Medeia's pack, telling him where they were- they sounded close. He nervously looked at Aedan. Nuellan stood nearby. 'Will they come to you, or are you going to leave and go to them?' He asked. Damianos made a shrugging motion with his shoulders, unsure himself.

He turned and silently padded out of the village, towards the murky darkness of the forest, where his family was calling to him.
