Aedan smiled, and placed a hand on the other man's knee "And you will. But we don't have quite enough yet to get there. A few more days and we just might. But until then we'll just have to deal with not being able to leave yet. And you have to understand that us being able to stay in Britain while everyone else leaves would require us both to have our freedom. We can't serve Atreus from a different country, and my people will not take me seriously as a slave" Damianos sighed quietly and nodded, closing his eyes. He released the excitement that had built up, and wearily looked up at Aedan again. 'I made a promise.' He said, smiling. 'I'll get you home.'

((Nothing in particular ^.^ want to skip to them trying to travel there? Damianos, Atreus and Aquila completely unprepared for the cold, Nu warming up to Aedan etc? Like they're IN Britain just trying to get over the moors and through the forests))

(Sure)
Over the last days of travelling, it had been highly bemusing to Aedan - and, he suspected, Nuellan - how Damianos, Atreus and Aquila had reacted to the cold. It was, seemingly, too cold for them in Britain, while it was perfectly comfortable for the two Celts.
There were just moors and mountains now to navigate, not much distance until they entered the territory of Aedan's tribe. Not long, Aedan knew, until he would see his family again. He knew he might not be allowed to stay, but he didn't want to think about that. He wanted to think about only the happiness he felt at being able to see his family.

Damianos was not sure he had seen so much rain in his entire life. Greece and its islands had a season for rain, with violent, raging thunderstorms and vicious, churning seas that they would try to placate with offerings to Zeus and Poseidon. But here: he'd been informed it rained MOST of the time. He shivered again, teeth chattering. Greece was far hotter than Britain; it was hotter than Rome. He was trying to keep his complaints to a minimum. 'Are we getting close?' He stammered, hugging his chest. Atreus was silent as he followed them.

"Very close," Aedan confirmed "And the rain will ease off soon, it appears. I did warn you it would be cold and wet"
There was a ridge before them, and Aedan confirmed to the others that his tribe's territory began beyond that ridge and that it was from there only a short walk of about a mile to his village.

Damianos nodded, teeth chattering too much now to talk back. He gazed around, still impressed by the rolling hills and wide-open spaces. It was then that Atreus stopped them, releasing a soft sigh as he did. 'Come here.' The gladiators did as they were told and approached him. He examined them all, gaze softening slightly as he did. 'I'm going to release you from service.' He said, after a deep breath. 'You don't belong to me anymore. You haven't really since we left Rome.' Damianos stared at him with wide eyes. Was this really happening? 'You're serious?' Nuellan asked. 'I have no need for slaves here- I have no place here.' He smiled weakly. 'This is your home; you should not be barred from your freedom whilst in it.' He bowed to them slightly, a great sign of respect. 'You are all grand warriors. Thankyou for fighting for me.'

There was a moment, just a moment, when Aedan couldn't catch his breath. Seven years, and suddenly it was over and he was back home like it had never happened
"Thank you, so much" Aedan breathed "I swear, Atreus, that while you are in this territory with me I can provide anything you need. From here I can make sure that everyone can go to any country they wish, even Italy once things have died down and it is safe. And everyone has a place hee should, do they ever want to stay, even just for a little while"
He was prepared to show his gratitude in any way it could manifest itself, and he saw offering the others a place in his home and a next step in their journeys as the way to do this.

Atreus blushed deeply and even seemed flustered as he straightened. 'I'd like to work for myself once we've settled down enough.' He replied. 'I'd rather not be provided for.' Damianos swallowed tightly and wiped his eyes, shoulders shaking. Aquila released a loud laugh. 'You've made the puppy cry.' He said, giving Damianos a tight hug, before scooping Nuellan into his arms to hug him as well. The celt squeaked then snorted, returning the hug. He still looked dazed from the surreal-ness of it all.

Hugs circled round from person to person for a few minutes longer, and it seemed that Damianos stopped crying after the first round of hugs, as the group set off again.
They crossed the ridge and a village could be seen a distance away, with little roundhouses, the smoke from their fires drifting into the breeze.
"My village," Aedan murmured "and it hasn't changed a bit"
This was an emotional moment for Aedan, but he swallowed it down before another round of hugs would impeach their progress,

"Go, go!" Aedan's master hurried the twenty-five-year-old as he climbed smoothly down from the pedestal, glad to be free of the eyes of the Romans, as he followed the Emperor's daughter. He was unafraid of Sabina's anger, if only because he could be reasonably confident that he himself hadn't caused it. He caught up to he but kept an acceptable and respectful distance, wary of the crowd. He chose not to ask her if she was alright because he was not the kind of person who needed the obvious pointed out to them and he figured it was best to let her speak when she decided to when she was his angry. She hadn't bought him, but she was his benefactor and his master couldn't complain that he was making Sabina happy, considering her status. He should be begging him to spend more time with her if he had any sense He took a deep breath as they began to slow down, suspecting that the woman would have a lot she wanted to get off her chest. Aedan, being a slave, was rather good St not bearing the brunt of misplaced anger if someone was angry, but Sabina was very different from an angry master. He knew how to deal with a frustrated slave owner, but not with Sabina. He would have to learn with experience, he supposed, just as he had with everything here in Rome She grumbled stuff under her breath and popped her neck to relieve some stress. "That stupid... thinks I'm gonna be his wife just because he wants me! Ha! I'd rather die then marry that overgrown child." She snorted at the thought of being his wife. "Can you believe he took my drink away? 'A lady shouldn't drink. If you were my wife that stuff wouldn't touch your lips.' The audacity!"

You are angry at Cassius, then, am I correct? He wants to marry you, disrespected you, yes? Have I got the story here?"

'It's... wonderful.' He said, tilting his head. It was so different from Greece, but somehow looked cosy and full of warmth. Nuellan's gaze softened as he looked upon a gratefully familiar sight. He sighed and breathed in the air of Britain, before looking at Aedan. 'Aquila, Atreus and Damianos do not speak our language.' He said. 'We will have to speak for them until they learn.'

Aedan nodded "We will translate for them. It will be pleasant to be in a place where our tongue is spoken again"
Something inside him had warmed when he saw Nuellan's reaction to the sight of the village. It was clear he would greatly yearn for Germania. Aedan, though, was confident he could get him here, and was relieved to note that Nuellan seemed to have the same confidence.
Aedan smiled "Now to go and face my family again."

He was obviously scared, the fear showed in his eyes; but he had a strong confidence with him as well. Nu stepped back to walk with Aquila, silently hoping Aedan's clan would be welcoming; or at least willing to not kill those they didn't trust yet. Nuellan's own tribe had been rather unforgiving to strangers.

Aedan began the journey towards the village, and as he entered the gates he immediately heard the people murmuring, obviously recognised Aedan but not being able to place him.
He spotted a young woman, tall and blonde like Aedan, blue eyes focused on a quern as she ground wheat for bread.
"Idelle!" Aedan called, voice full of surprise. The woman looked up, and immediately her blue eyes lit up and she stood, flying towards Aedan to wrap him in a hug.
'Little brother?" She asked, almost disbelieving "is it really you?"
Aedan didn't need to reply, but as the woman pulled away she caught sight of the clipped ear and frowned.
"I knew it," She said "My brother comes back, bearing the mark of a slave."
"I'm fine," Aedan smiled, before throwing a glance at Atreus 'and a free man now, so all is well, Idelle."
"And your company?"
"Friends of mine." Aedan replied, introducing each man one by one "They're looking to stay here a while until we can secure safe passages for them"

Nuellan respectfully nodded his head at her, then lowered his gaze to the floor, not wanting to make eye contact with anybody. Damianos tilted his head as he examined her, noting the remarkable similarities between the two. He was wary to speak lest they not appreciate his own tongue. His anxiety grew worse and he nervously pushed his hands into his pockets. Aquila followed Nuellans lead.

"You can never be ready for the wrong person" Aedan pointed out gently "You'll never know if you're ready until you fall in love, Sabina. That's how it works. Nobody in an arranged marriage is ever prepared for it. You must realise that. But in a marriage for love you are almost always ready"

The only love in royalty is my parents only because they were friends since they were children. Aedan shook his head "I don't know. I was only eighteen when I was taken prisoner and I hadn't had a chance to really fall in love. But people say it's a feeling. I don't know how to describe it, but you're supposed to know it when you fall in love. You can meet someone and fall in love instantly or you can call in love with someone over a long period of time"

She sighed, "I'll never find love." Now calmer she fixed her hair and looked at him with kind eyes. "Could you tell me about your home? I bet its completely different than Rome, here its alot to handle. I'll have to take you to the market with me so i can show you everything." She patted the space beside her on the long bench wanting to get her mind off her responsibilities.

Aedan nodded as he settled himself beside her "Okay. Well I live in a place in the north of Britannia, just south of Hadrian's wall. It is very cold, much colder than here. I remember being constantly sunburned for the first couple of months of being here. It rains there a lot, but we are well used to it. There are many great mountains and forests, and there is so much nature. Where I live we gave this great and very beautiful river. It is where we get a lot of our food. We live in small villages, not in great cities like this. Little roundhouses that always have a warm fire inside of them. We work together as a village to provide for everyone's needs, even coming down to grinding the grain to make flour"

He settled himself so he was sitting with his legs crossed, then began to examine the grass. Nuellan watched him curiously, as did a great amount of the villagers. He plucked a thick piece of grass and carefully slid it between his thumbs, then looked up at Esca with a sly look in his eyes. He placed the back of his thumbs against his lips, then blew. A light whistling noise emerged from where his lips connected with the grass between his thumbs. Nuellans eyes widened and he crouched down, struggling to see how it worked. Damianos stopped blowing, then held the blade of grass out towards Esca.
