Finally Sabina sat up more seeing the gladiator that she had given the favor to, she wished she had gotten his name so she could call out his name over the though the crowd calling for the roman gladiator. Carefully she followed her father to the edge of the balcony and watched carefully as her father started the fight. Though her father went back to her seat she stood and watched closely seeing the difference in the fighters she prayed to the gods to keep this warrior safe. The fight began, and it was at first very simple sparring. Aedan was proving himself to be weaker but faster. It would depend on how long Aedan could keep up his speed as to whether he could win the fight. It was still all to play for. If he could get this right he could just perhaps win. Maybe. If he lost there was no telling as to whether the crowd would have mercy on him or not, especially considering he was a foreigner fighting a Roman.

Aedan noticed the way the other gladiator bugged himself up to the crowd. Huh. That was Aedan's thing... That was a little irritating. He turned to the Emperor, calling out the salute in unison with his opponent "We who are about to die salute you!" He waited for the signal from the Emperor, and took the opportunity to look over his opponent. Looked tanned, so probably Roman or Greek. That meant he might have the advantage of a crowd who loved to see foreigners being bested by Romans. He was large and very well built. He looked immensely strong, and Aedan knew he would have to rely on his agility and speed. The signal came, and instantly Damianos backed as far away as he possibly could, sliding into a familiar, yet much more revised and steady stance. He held his sword with loose care, as though it were an extension of his arm. Damainos took a deep breath and released it, starting to circle his opponent. He'd have to block and find the correct timing to land a heavy blow. Knock him down. Tire him out. That was right- knock down, tire out... he could do this...

Aedan felt uneasy as he watched his opponent sink into his fighting stance, the Celt following suit. Was something almost...familiar about that stance? Perhaps he had fought this gladiator before - battle stances didn't much change, and Aedan's certainly hadn't changed in the past few years.
Aedan dealt the first blow, just to get the fight moving, moving quickly on the balls of his feet like he always did. He would focus mainly on defense against this man.

The Greek danced backwards and span quickly around him, raising his sword to thrust a swift jab towards his opponents ribs. Damianos frowned inside his helmet. He recognised that fighting style. He warded of the other gladiator's blows, mind focused only on where he'd seen him before. Pale skin. He- a pang of pain in his chest- he warded off his thoughts, refused to think about what he'd lost. He released a snarl and swung his sword at the other gladiator, a vicious and deadly strike.

She watched at he moved with a speed no heavy built roman could have, even with the extensive training the army could never create a speedy solider that could contend against this celt. As she watched she gasped each time the roman warrior swung his sword relaxing slightly when he missed the pale mans form. As the fight went on people called for blood and she saw the smaller gladiator begin to slow, now she felt true panic holding the balcony rail as she watched with worry.

Aedan jumped back, but a second too late, and caught a slash from the sword on his stomach. A slash was cut in the leather of his armour, revealing not just his new wound, but the scar tissue around it, from that battle 7 years ago.
That's when he noticed something about his opponent. Just a glimpse of it, but he saw it nontheless. A scar on his neck. That scar.
Aedan was sure now, and he thought his opponent suspected.
"Damianos?" Aedan asked, quirt enough that if it was not the right name the gladiator might miss it. But if it was the correct name, he had no doubt he would hear it.

He turned his head to look at the stands and saw the faces of the people- and now he knew this was a planned fight. They didn't need to act, or even play it up- the fight itself was a staged drama. He hissed an insult under his breath, circling Aedan. He'd cut him. Was it deep? Had he injured him badly? 'are you okay?' he croaked, his voice reduced to that of a scared teen once more.

Aedan jumped back, but not fast enough, and he gained a stab wound in his torso, making him sink to the ground with a cry. He raised his left arm, indicating that he had lost the fight and that the crowd should vote on his life

He said, stepping away.

As Damianos ridden himself of his helmet and sword, so did Aedan, and he welcomed his friend's hug.
"I'm missed you too," Aedan said "I have been wondering about you for years."
When Damianos declared that he would not fight him, Aedan nodded "And I will not fight you."
He looked at his friend now, no longer a teenager but now a man. Aedan himself had aged a little in face, his face starting to look older as he entered his mid-20s
"God," He said "I know I met you at nineteen, but you have still grown up since I saw you"

Many started to call for his life to end but the stubborn princes called out in her best "I'm a princess" call to save this mans life raising a thumb up calling to others to do the save. "Let him live!" She felt hope swell in her as she watched the crowd begin to put their fingers up. She looked at the smaller gladiator with soft eyes though her stance was rigid. Sabinas father Emperor Titus IV stood stepping beside her placing a hand on her shoulder, "As Emperor I say let this man live." She smiled and relaxed her arm. She mumbled her thanks to her father before he went to sit down, she watched as the roman gladiator walked angerly away. She called over a solider as she watched the Celtic gladiator stand in pain. "Get him a healer," she said dropping a silver and emerald ring in his hands as payment.

They could choose to kill two of them, or perhaps send in animals to fight, or paid them up against another two gladiators

Aedan was immediately hit by a wall of pain not just from the wound but from the stitches the medic just so happened to be putting in his wound. He groaned when hit by this pain, putting his head back on the simple straw bed on which he had been laid,

As he looked up at the emperor, he knew their fate. 'They're sending in animals.' He said. 'Don't worry.' He raised his arm, revealing vicious claw marks on his biceps. 'They usually pit me against lions or bears.' He cracked his neck and lifted his sword. 'I suggest you lose your armour.' As he spoke, he removed his own. 'Depending on what they send in, you need to be faster than it, and thinking on its level.' He smiled wearily. 'I hope it's not wolves.'

Aedan nodded "Don't worry if it is wolves. They're my forte - they are run common in my country and they are often hunted"
He got rid of his armour, leaving just his tunic and his sword as any sort of barrier between him and whatever animal they were about to send in.
"I bet they know I can fight wolves. Damianos, it's going to be wolves" Aedan said with a large degree of confidence. Of course they would pit the Celt against a British animal.

'My last name is Lykos.' He said, looking at him. 'They're probably finding this irony hilarious.' He stretched, shaking his head. Lykos meant 'Wolf' in Greek- his family had earnt their name many many years ago; rumoured to have tamed the wolf packs existing in Greece, before they were all slaughtered, hunted for their pelts to extinction. The gates slowly began to open, and he shivered at the sound of starving snarls and glowing Amber eyes. A small pack of wolves slowly prowled into the arena. They were thin, angry, hungry, and very large, with slavering maws and sharp teeth. 'Good doggies.' Damianos murmured, sliding into an animalistic crouch, his eyes focused as he slowly circled with the beasts.

Aedan did laugh "Yet another reason why it was always going to be wolves"
And when the wolves did come in, Aedan moved slowly, sinking to his haunches only so that he could stand quickly and run if needed.
There was one he noticed was bigger than the others, and was even snapping at the other wolves. That one had to be the leader of this little pack. He indicated this wolf to Damianos

You mean to give us time to take out the others.' He sheepishly finished, grinning at Aedan. 'Sorry.' He glanced up as a she-wolf ran at him. He flung out his sword, smacking her hard in the side with the flat of the blade, knocking her into the air. She yelped and rolled to her feet, limping away behind the group.

"Or you could just do that, that works." Aedan commented, laughing as he watched the wolf yelp "I tell you what - I'll focus on the alpha. You start to take out the others and cover me if you can. Like always, Damianos, you're on defense"
So Aedan turned to the alpha wolf, watching as it growled and backed up, ready to lunge. As it did, Aedan stuck out his blade, hitting it's chest and making it yelp. He turned then so his back was to the rest of the pack, separating the alpha from the rest of the pack,

With the alpha dead, Aedan turned again to assist his friend with the remainder of the pack.

Damianos misjudged the distance between himself and the beta, and released a shout of alarm as it jumped on him and knocked him to the floor, forcing him to drop his sword. He grabbed its fur around its neck, leaning and flinching away from snapping jaws. He heard the crowd gasp with excitement and knew he needed to play on this- he allowed the wolf closer and closer to his throat until he felt his arms shaking from the effort of holding it off. Then, he released a roar of effort and threw it to the side, sliding onto his feet and scrambling for his sword- it ran to him and almost succeeded in its kill, but as it jumped, he swung up his sword and felt it sink into the Beta's chest. He pulled it out and stood, panting heavily.

The wolf stared between them, then ultimately decided it would have a better chance of survival by attacking the one it's packmate had almost 'brought down'. Damianos slashed it across the throats and knelt beside it as it died. The crowd roared, and he stood, waving his arms to them, even blowing a cocky kiss, before he looked at Aedan. 'I do listen.' He said, grinning widely. 'Besides- sometimes it's fun.' He held out his arm to Aedan, gaze soft. 'We survived another fight together.' He said.

Aedan smiled, placing an arm on the Greek man's shoulder "Indeed we did. And I wouldn't want anyone else by my side in a battle. But all I can say is that it is good fortune that we recognised each other, is it not?"
He couldn't help wondering whether or not they had intended the two to recognise one another, and whether the wolf pack had been a backup or not.
But he joined in the celebrations, waving his own arms to the screaming crowd.

He replied, walking inside and slowly putting away his equipment. 'I've just been training since. He's vicious but fair.' He murmured; it was as though there was no will to escape left in him. 'I fight for him now.' He hung his sword up on the rack, before smiling wearily at Aedan. 'And you?'
