hi friends!! this idea came to me randomly today and i wanted to see if any of you were interested in roleplaying it with me! however, i must ask that you are strong grammar-wise, as well as being able to help move the plot along. i don't want to do it all myself, so i implore that you write about a minimum of 1-2 paragraphs! now, onto the plot!
Muse B is new to a college campus that was founded for the sake of teaching teenagers / growing adults with "abilities" that would be deemed as abnormal to the outside world. Their invitation was late, seeing as how their ability did not present itself until a few months beforehand. Muse A has been at the college for a year already, going into their second year. They are seen as a social outcast in the school mainly because their ability is viewed as immoral. Muse A has the ability to view someone's nightmare through physical contact, whether it be brief or long-term. However, they have to undergo the said nightmare themselves before projecting the illusion upon their target. Hence, no one interacts with Muse A much and some often call them a "sociopath" to ensure that Muse A has no personal alliances. Muse B has a similar ability, one that deals with touch. Because they do not know much, they are assigned to Muse A, who has much experience and knowledge. Muse A tries to shake them off but to no avail, and still maintains a cool exterior despite the tremendous amount of time they spend together. Muse A promises themselves that they will never grow close to Muse B, and will never ever come into physical contact with them. However, Muse A eventually warms up to Muse B, feeling as if they aren't the same as the others. At one point, Muse A accidentally touches Muse B, immediately revealing Muse B's worst nightmare. Dismayed, Muse A secludes themselves away from both Muse B and the outside world.
.. and then i'm stuck, lol. hopefully it seems okay enough to start??
Muse A- Antoinette Troy Muse B-

i LIVE off of angst, so that perfect lmao. quick question: do you prefer describing your character throughout the roleplay instead of giving a major paragraph in the beginning? i tend to use a faceclaim and describe as it goes along, but i'm not too sure what you prefer. ^^

antoinette troy
Antoinette tapped her fingers against her thigh, keeping in tune with the beat of the music that seemed to blast from her headphones. If anyone talked to her, which rarely happened, she would not have heard a single sound that escaped their lips. And really, would she even respond? The other students here seemed to regard with some sort of distaste. The only respect she received was from the professors here, but it was only because she had a high work ethic.
Music was a nice escape from the world and was especially useful for someone of her sort. It blocked out the outside and kept her warm, safe even. It was as if she was a delicate flower and music was the vase that saved her from any harm.
Taking the stairs into the library two at a time, she breathed a heavy sigh of relief when she entered the doors. Her cobalt eyes drank in every little detail of her "sanctuary," and she observed that there were little to no students there. Perfect. It was just the way she liked it. If there was far too many people, she would have hightailed it out of there and retreated to her apartment off of the campus.
Maneuvering her way through the endless maze of bookshelves, she settled herself down in her favorite spot of the library. She had found it when she first arrived a year ago, immediately having a sense of adoration towards the window nook. The feeling of content embraced her body and she sighed into its warmth before pulling out an old book from her bag.
Her fingers absentmindedly traced the strange patterns etched on the front as she opened the book, leafing through the worn pages, She had received it from her parents ages ago in hopes that she would able to control her ability. She snorted to herself. Fat load of help that was.
Still, she held on to some hope that there was something that she had missed in the book. That there was something that she had overlooked and the one small detail would solve her problem. Her hopes were most likely in vain, but it didn't hurt to try, right?

➳ Daniel "Dan" Hui Getting powers had kind of been a really weird thing. It was weird, even, to know that there was a school full of people with a similar occurrence, and it seemed, somehow, that he was late to the party. A year late, in fact, which was a little more than just "casually late." It seemed everyone else in the university already knew what they were doing. At least, all his "Powers 101" and similarly named classes were full of freshmen. Even better, he didn't really know he even had a power until he found someone else with one, though he didn't know if he should really consider anything "his" power considering... well... his own power, apparently, was to copy everyone else's. Yeah, cheap. But in a place filled with people with powers, it wasn't exactly a bad thing to be able to do. That kid that was hella smart? He always made sure to locate him before the test and "accidentally" bump shoulders or something. He tried not to touch too often; he didn't want to be seen as that weird guy who touched everyone randomly, but it was just so hard to resist... Not only did it earn him a power for a little bit (sometimes one he could barely control) but he was also curious to see what everyone's power was, and he didn't want to feel rude asking. However, right, he couldn't really control said powers sometimes, and he didn't really know how to make them... go away without hiding out in his dorm or the nearest bathroom until they faded away. (His first especially bad case happened after touching a very experienced mind reader.) When he asked his scheduling counselor about this, she first advised him just to stop touching people if he didn't want to face the consequences, which was followed by some persistent puppy-dog eyes and arguing before she finally wrote down someone's name on a slip of paper. "Here. You'll probably find her in the library. She's a sophomore this year, and she has an ability to do with touch. She could help you." The counselor meant more for her to dissuade him from touching people so often, but he didn't know that, so the next instance of free time he had, he set out for the library. Stopping by the front desk, he asked "Is... Antoinette Troy here? I need to ask her something," he asked. The librarian gave him a glare (probably thinking he was sent here by a group of students to tell her something nasty,) and his eyes widened. "I swear it'll be quick!" he added hurriedly, in a louder voice. "Oh, and quiet," he substituted quite sheepishly.

{{ i'm screaming, i love osric ahhh }}
She was instantly broken out of her thoughts when the gentle vibration of her phone brought her back to reality, her music softened down a tone thanks to the notification of a received message. Frowning to herself, she placed her book back into her bag, for safekeeping of course, before glancing down at the mobile screen. Her frown deepened even further with confusion as she read the texts, her brows narrowing together.
It was from Mary, one of the librarians who worked here. She was often found at the Main Desk, or near the antique fireplace located in the middle of the library. She claimed that the chilly weather ached her bones and the heat only softened her arthritis.
Antoinette had created a strong bond with the women of the library and she soon found herself embraced in the warmth that they energetically gave her. They seemed to have a soft spot for the outcasted girl, knowing full well that her life outside of the building wasn't the greatest. They often texted one another back and forth, giving each other book recommendations, random facts, images of cute animals, their favorite poems. And if someone suspicious came along looking for her, Antoinette was always warned immediately.
To her, it was almost as if she found the family she never really had.
Mary: There's a strange boy here to see you. He doesn't act like the others who we have had to shoo away. He's quite loud though, bothers my ears. Mary: Should I send him up to you? I can tell him to leave and say you aren't here. He wouldn't know.
Antoinette reread the messages for about two minutes, completely and utterly confused. Someone was here.. for her? It couldn't be good..
She bit her lip in thought, as if contemplating on her decision. She could go downstairs and if she felt something off about the whole thing, she could most definitely backtrack towards the Private Office for employees and leave without ever looking back.
Grumbling to herself, she hastily typed out a message to Mary before packing her things. It was best to get this over with, similar to ripping off a band-aid instead of peeling the sucker off inch by inch.
Antoinette: It's alright. I'm coming down. Definitely going through the office if things go bad.
Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she began to maneuver her way towards the stairs that led to the main floor. Her mind raced with thoughts and her body was filled to the brim with anxiety.
Her boots made soft noises on the floor as she walked over to the front desk where Mary sat. She clutched one strap of her bag with nervousness and reminded herself to breathe. She was safe here. This was home.
Antoinette's eyes roamed over the figure standing before her, her body poised and ready to dart away at any sense of danger. Her posture was similar to that of a frightened cat. "You were looking for me?" She questioned, her voice soft and tentative, the British accent making the tone come out far more sharply than she had desired.

➳ omg yesss he is my son also sorry it's kinda short }}
Dan waited impatiently as the librarian told him she'd find Antoinette for him and instead proceded to do something on her phone. He fidgeted with his hands, waiting for an answer for a minute before he heard someone walk up. He didn't bother to look at them until they said something that you might hear out of a weird spy movie or something.
"S-Sorry if you were busy. I just wanted to talk. I'm kind of new here, Antoinette, right? I'm Daniel Hui," he babbled, barely remembering to introduce himself. She was a distractingly beautiful, and the British accent didn't help on his account. Was his counselor trying to set him up on a date or something? He brushed the thought away but not before he started blushing a little.
He scratched his head. "Uh, yeah. Antoinette is kind of long. Can I call you Mary?" he asked a little bit playfully, smiling like usual. She seemed very tense; he just wanted to talk to her, though he was lying about just asking a quick question. He held his hand out for her to shake, completely forgetting her power was also activated by touch. Even then, he only did it as custom.
He hadn't exactly gotten the memo to stay away from her yet. Considering he was new and more or less kept to himself until someone engaged him (and then he usually scared them off with his non-stop jabbering,) he didn't have too many friends. It'd only been a few days after all. What did he expect?
Plus, even if he wasn't aware of it, people didn't exactly like someone replicating the powers they so delicately controlled, sometimes using them destructively on accidentally. If he was known for anything at this point, it was probably being reckless.

{{ ahhh!! don't apologize!! your posts are always hella long }}
She eyed him with suspicion, cobalt eyes flashing with something akin to fear before she shoved the emotion down to her core and her face resumed its blank slate. This was a coping mechanism for her, knowing full well that showing fear or any other sort of emotion to her opposers was nothing but weakness. And this stranger, or Dan as he called himself, had no need to see how terrified she actually was.
"Antoinette is just fine." She murmured, glancing down at his outstretched hand. Involuntarily, she clasped hers behind her back, nails digging into her skin. Didn't he know that she couldn't do that? It hadn't been possible for her ever since her ability came through when she was only ten years old. Imagine the trauma she had gone through to find out that her mother's worst fear was her own daughter.
She was sure that he must have heard some rumor about her, despite being new to the campus. It didn't take that long for the new arrivals to avoid her like the plague. His presence confused her and she wrinkled her nose in distaste, displeased that she didn't know something. Antoinette always thirsted for knowledge, believing that if she had the brains, she was untouchable.
But, she was raised with manners. And despite having some sort of buried hatred for most of the students attending the college, she struggled to maintain a sympathetic front. It was clear this kid wasn't used to the happenings of others with some sort of ability, that much was certain.
"I can't shake your hand." She muttered, a brow slightly raised as she looked down at his hand before back at him, as if making a point.

"I can't shake your hand." She muttered, a brow slightly raised as she looked down at his hand before back at him, as if making a point.
➳ He frowned, confused by her reaction. She seemed utterly terrified of him for a split second, which in turn made him nervous. He'd said something wrong? Or maybe she had guys bothering her all the time. God, he was probably just bothering her for no reason, chattering and all that.
"Yeah, sorry. I just... cause the queen of France... it was a bad joke," he added quietly, almost to himself. Right, she wouldn't want to be called that. It wasn't even a shortened version of her name; why would someone want to be nicknamed after an assassinated queen?! He'd have to think of a different nickname later. Anti? That just sounded weird.
She was awfully strange, but he wasn't exactly a prime candidate to judge. In fact, he barely noticed it. He only thought it a little odd that instead of reaching out for his hand, she instead hid her hand behind her back. Right. Did he really say something to totally upset her? Man, he needed to practice meeting new people.
He frowned, scrunching his nose at her when she refused to shake his hand. However, stopping himself before he asked why, he instead pulled his hand back. "Right, you have a power like mine, with touch and all. I was wondering if you could help me with that. I sometimes get a little... out of control," he asked her. He chuckled afterwards, returning to his cheeky self. "Oh, and I copy people's powers for a little bit after touching them."
He mentioned this because he was more than curious about her at this point. Why did the librarian get angry at him when he asked for her? Why'd his scheduling counselor recommend her? She must be very experienced. Maybe she was one of those really talented students at the school. Wait, if she was good at controlling it why wouldn't she shake hands with him? Well, scrap that. Maybe she was moderate, or maybe it was a good excuse not to shake hands with people.

Antoinette tilted her head slightly to the side, as if confused by his words. Her mouth formed into some sort of pout, something she did when her brain was often lost in thought.
"Out of control?" She questioned, speaking the words in slower syllables, as if talking at a far more leisure pace would help her understand. Her nails were dug deeper and deeper into her skin as she listened to him continue his spiel. She was positive that welts would be left behind, but shrugged that thought away. It only assisted her in refraining from touching anyone. Antoinette often found herself performing that action during times when she felt uncomfortable (which was basically all the time) or when she found herself to be in large crowds where contact was nearly impossible to avoid.
"If what you say is true, that your ability relies on touch, then the simplest answer is to avoid physical contact at all costs. It's what I do every second of my life." She gestured towards herself, feeling awkward and dismayed at having to talk about herself, especially about her ability. Opening up to those around her was something that Antoinette did almost never. No one asked and she was happy confining to her own thoughts and ideas.
She soon felt an overwhelming surge of jealousy swell inside of her and she flinched slightly at the strong emotion, pushing it away. If he thought his ability was dangerous, then he was certainly in for a treat once he was told about hers. She was certain that he would be told about what a "monster" she was, and she would then be left alone again.
She was slightly glad that she didn't shake his hand to begin with. No one deserved to feel the way she did. No one deserved to go through the experiences she had. In her own selfish mind, she thought of Dan as lucky.
"Of course, if that does not suit your tastes, you would most likely have to undergo a certain amount of training to strengthen your state of mind. This includes meditation, psychoanalysis, things like that. The training will be long and there will certainly be many trial errors." She shuffled her boots on the marble floor as she explained the steps he would have to undertake if he wanted to take part in physical contact without his ability being unleashed.
She glanced over at Mary, who seemed to be busying herself with the computer at her desk. Despite having a close bond with the librarian, Antoinette felt as if talking about her ability around open ears was still an uncomfortable thing. Standing around by the front desk was almost awkward, so she began to move towards the antique fireplace. Small cushioned seats were placed around the fire and Antoinette hoped Dan would follow her lead instead of standing in the place she had left him in.

➳ At first Dan thought she was just walking off, maybe annoyed at him. However, after a few seconds of watching her go, he concluded that was not her purpose, and followed.
The spot by the fireplace was nice; it was strange that people tended to stick to the tables for studying.
"So you just… don't touch people? Ever?" It seemed like the wrong way to get around the problem. He couldn't imagine not touching anyone with powers ever again, especially since he was in a university full of them just so that he didn't have to deal with a few unusual cases. "Seems like the wrong way to go about it," he commented.
"What about all that stuff you mentioned… meditation, all that. Maybe we could do it together!" he offered. He realized she would probably just tell him that she already had tried, or maybe that she didn't believe it would work, but he thought it might be worth a try at least. Then again, it might take years before he got any results, and when he back to the "real world" where people with abilities were a minority, would it really be worth it?
Nevertheless, he kind of liked Antoinette, and he decided it wouldn't be that bad to stick around, maybe spend some time with her. Hey, if it ended in a relationship, good for him. If it didn't, at least he'd have one good ally while he was here.
