He was bullied by his brother and sister.
He was hurt by Tigerpaw.
... that's it.
Scourge's mother Quince loved him. And he had support from cats in the city.
Was Scourge's life really that bad? He was alive. He had a home, and his mother loved him.
I really think the Erins might have tried too hard on Scourge as well. I can't really sympathize with him, especially when he chose to kill.
He never got over his grudge. If he calmed down about what Tigerstar did to him then he may have been a better cat.
Scourge is overrated. Only two had things happened to him. I don't think his life was all that sad.

In my opinion... no. I would say the only bad thing to happen to him was getting attacked by Tigerstar. He was just a kit so I understand how that could have traumatized him, especially since Tigerstar nearly killed him. The rest of his life wasn't that bad. Socks and Ruby were little brats but that doesn't warrent becoming evil. No matter what he went through though, that is no excuse for his actions. Scourge is nothing but a bully.

I'm not trying to excuse his actions, but I do think is best was worse than most people realize... Bullying, especially when young, can be incredibly damaging. And people who are bullied consistently, especially by those who are close to them, can become bullies themselves. That's essentially what happened with Scourge, on a grand scale.
He had support, sure, but someone is feeling that badly about themselves and that is no way to escape, that support isn't going to be enough. As for the incident with Tigerstar, how would he get over his grudge? He was a kit at the time who has been exposed to a lot of bullying; he's going to see that as another bully he has to destroy, and the only way he knows that to do that is to become a bully himself.
If anything, Scourge is a realistic depiction of what can happen to someone who is constantly made fun of or otherwise belittled, and rejects support because bullying is all he can see. It's something that can happen to people are bullied, and has happened in real life. In fact, thinking of it that way, his situation is almost scary...

He didn't have a great life, but I think many cats had it worse. The reason that Scourge left wasn't because he was bullied, but because he believed that unwanted kits get thrown in the river. Form there, he just made it to the top with tricks and lies and by instilling fear and intimidation in others.
While the bullying did hurt and being attacked by Tigerstar didn't help, either, the misery the Scourge felt for his bullying is not what set him on his path. It was the concept the bullying taught him, that even in tame kittypet environments, the strong thrive, and the weak suffer, and that strong cats are cats that defeat and control weaker cats. I think that Scourge went after Tigerstar not out of a grudge, but because he wanted to prove that he was stronger.
