Inwardly, Wiltedpetal had known she was expecting kits. "The answer to my question was yes..." She breathed, her eyes slowly widening. A small tendril of happiness bloomed inside of her, but it was quickly stunted with the realization that she may not be able to train Cinderpaw anymore. Yes, expecting kits was one of the most fantastic things to participate in, but so was being a mentor to a young cat. She had a duty to uphold, and she must follow it. Still, that niggling piece of fear and uncertainty was temporarily shoved aside as the realization finally dawned on her. She was going to be a mother!
She grinned happily at her friend. Seeing Mudfeather's excitement only increased her own happiness. It was so nice to see someone happy for her.
"They are not Foxcloud's..." she managed to reply, a worried frown sharpening her features. Foxcloud cared so dearly for her, and she cared for him so dearly as well. She wouldn't want any part of hurting him, and she feared that this would be the case. She knew, eventually, that they would end up as true mates. Most likely. Because who couldn't resist such a charming tom that gave you all the attention in the world? Not for your whole life at least. He was slowly winning her over already. Now they could be classified as the dearest of friends.

Thistlestride nodded. "Yes, it shall be. I shall serve to the best of my abilities." He smiled at her, hesitating momentarily to observe her. "Redstorm will make an excellent deputy. I have the utmost of faith in her." She was a good friend of his, and he didn't doubt her in the slightest. "I heard there was a rattlesnake by the creek." He suddenly replied, hastening to catch up with her. When Appledew joined the pair, he dipped his head. "Care for a hunt?" He called softly, swiping at a thorn that threatened to prick his paw.

Mudfeather was more than happy for Wiltedpetal. She would make an amazing mother and any kit would be lucky to have her as a parent. All of this happiness for the warrior bubbled up inside of Mudfeather for it to only be popped. Wiltedpetal would be able to be an actual mother to her kits. She would be able to actually be there for them and truly watch them grow and learn... She would be there for them when they needed help. Mudfeather thought to her own unborn kits. For a moment she felt jealous of Wiltedpetal, how she could actually be a mother for her kits while Mudfeather would have to practically give them up the moment they were born. The medicine cat wanted to curl up and pity herself, but she couldn't. In her mind her kits were important, but being happy for Wiltedpetal was more important. Being there for the gray warrior was more important than her own predicament, at least right now it was.
Hearing they weren't Foxcloud's made Mudfeather pause. They weren't the ginger tom's kits? Mudfeather had noticed how close the two had gotten since Webwhisker's death... Webwhisker. Was his bloodline going to continue running through the Clan after all? Through these kits that Wiltedpetal was now carrying?
Mudfeather knew that a queen could keep the father of her kits a secret and it wasn't the most polite of things to ask who the father was, but the medicine cat was curious, and surely her friend would be alright with the question. So she took in a deep breath before asking, "Are they Webwhisker's?" Her tone was hushed. If Wiltedpetal didn't want any other cat to know then Mudfeather would respect the warrior's wishes and be quiet about it. Though she did have to wonder how Foxcloud would react to this.

Although this had been a pleasant surprise, worried thoughts still lingered inside of her head. How would Foxcloud react? How would the clan react? How would Chickenstar and Cinderpaw react? This had some sort of effect for nearly the whole clan. Truthfully, she wasn't too concerned about Foxcloud. She knew, deep down that he wouldn't be terribly upset. He would understand, or at least, she hoped so. For Starclan's sake, Webwhisker hadn't even joined Starclan a moon ago! No, it wasn't him...
"They are Webwhisker's..." She inhaled slowly, and then shuffled closer to the other she-cat. "Mudfeather, Webwhisker hasn't even been gone a whole moon. There is no way I could be that close to Foxcloud yet. He will understand that." Still, a small shard of doubt still lingered inside of her. She smiled at Mudfeather before continuing. Besides, she could keep it a secret, if the kits were all light colored like her. She assessed Mudfeather for nearly a minute, and then murmured softly. "What about Cinderpaw?"

Of course they were Webwhisker's kits. Wiltedpetal had been getting closer with Foxcloud, but surely the two hadn't had time to have kits with one another. Or if they had it would be much too soon for Wiltedpetal to really be starting to show or even really notice that she was expecting. It only made sense that the kits belonged to Webwhisker. Wiltedpetal was carrying the legacy of a noble warrior, and while Mudfeather didn't want to think of it, that also meant Walnutpelt would continue on his legacy as well. But these kits would be nothing like that lazy tom. These kits would grow up to be respected warriors. They would perhaps even become deputies or even a leader in their lifetime. These kits were destined for greatness.
The medicine cat nodded when Wiltedpetal began to speak once more. "Foxcloud will understand, of course he will. I'm sure he'll support you and love your kits as if they were his own," she mewed softly and then leaned forward to lightly nudge the new queen. Your kits will have wonderful parents.
All thought of the kits vanished for a moment as Wiltedpetal asked about Cinderpaw. What about him? "You're in the clear to continue training him as long as you don't overdo it. I would speak with Chickenstar about this, and I'm sure once you can't go about your warrior duties Chickenstar will elect a temporary mentor for Cinderpaw." That was the practical choice the leader would make. Wiltedpetal had no need to worry about holding off Cinderpaw's training while she was a queen. The medicine cat then purred. "And who knows, maybe another she-cat will find out she's expecting soon. Then once your kits are born you can train Cinderpaw yourself every now and then while the other queen watches the kits." Mudfeather didn't doubt that more queens would step forward soon. Larksong and Thistlestride were growing close...there was Flickershine and Chickenstar... And there were Mudfeather's own kits. But of course she couldn't step forward and announce that she was now a queen. She never could. Mudfeather would never be able to claim her kits as her own.

A few heartbeats of silence passed between them, the pale ginger tabby looked around the camp to see who all was coming back from patrol and who was leaving. She liked knowing where others went, it made her feel a lot better if she knew her clan mates were leaving and where to. It was a strange habit of hers to always ask. She didn't think anything of it but others thought it was a little strange her asking where they were going. Turing back to the other warrior, she nodded at his question." Sure! I'd love to go on a walk with you," she purred softly as she got to her paws. "Where will we be walking to? I don't mind where we go," she mewed happily looking over at Galefoot. When a smile was shown to him, the warrior brightened a bit. He gave a light nod to her words, thanking the chance to glanced around camp. It seemed a patrol was returning unharmed, which was fantastic considering recent events. Looking back to Oatshine, he grinned a little at her answer. "Wonderful," Galefoot paused as she stood and followed up her answer with a question. He took a moments though, but answered with, "Let's just see where we end up for now." |

What was the deal with the snakes these past few days? Usually there was one snake bite every other greenleaf, if that, and now there was at least one snake bite and an almost snake bite. It seemed as if the snakes were out more than usual this season, which wasn't good at all. Chickenstar would have to be informed about this. Perhaps even Redstorm so she can send patrols out in places where snakes aren't as common. A question then came to her. "A rattlesnake by the creek? That's odd..." Usually rattlesnakes were up by Pine Ridge with cottonmouths and copperheads controlling the creek. Something was up with the snakes this season. Mudfeather perked her ears in interest when Wiltedpetal admitted to this not being why she had come. The medicine cat tilted her head to the side, wondering what the warrior had on her mind. "Whatever's on your mind you can tell me," she mewed softly, wanting Wiltedpetal to know that she was there for her. Was this something about Webwhisker? Was she curious to know if Mudfeather had seen him anywhere in StarClan? Or was it something entirely different that Mudfeather had yet to know about? Only time could tell it seemed. - - - - The moment she was called a kittypet was the moment she felt all of her fur bristle up and her fangs bare. "Who are you calling kittypet?" She spat, claws digging into the dry ground beneath her paws. "I'll show you what a true forest cat can do, you no good mange-pelt." Crystal took a few steps closer, amber eyes narrowed and fangs still bared. She was more than ready for a fight, and she was more than ready to beat down this Clan cat to show him who was boss. Ahhh sorry I disappeared!) Are u ok, Lark? They definetely do not deserve your friendship) Leafgaze bared his teeth followed by one angry growl. That's it, he was trying to calmly ask for her to leave, but it clearly wouldn't work. The white and grey warrior lept onto Crystal, claws unseathed at the start of a fierce fight. He wasn't sure if he could win, but he knew he had to do what was best for his Clan, and that included his possible death. |
