Chapter 1: Chills The wind roared in Collie's ears as she tried to get to her den before it happened. She couldn't give birth yet! Without her mate nearby, how could she!?! Her body clenched in pain, and she knew she couldn't make it any farther. She would be forced to do this without him. Instantly she hurried toward an old fox den in the forest, as rain flew through the sky and lighting crackled in the air. The cream colored queen slowly crawled inside. It stunk, and her small pale nose cringed with distaste. But now wasn't the time to be picky. The cream cat flopped down and hoped that she wouldn't die from the horrible pain of giving birth.
LATER-
Three small bodies squirmed at Collie's belly, mewling hungrily. Before letting them eat, she critically surveyed them. They had to be perfect. There was one tom and two she-kits. The first-born she-kit was a petite black kitten and resembled her father, the handsome, charming, dark-gray tom, Illusion. Collie purred approvingly. She scanned the next kitten. She was an exact image of Collie, her pale fur blending in perfectly with Collie's own. The queen couldn't help but love the two she-kits immediately. They were perfect! Lastly, Collie examined the tom. Something.. something about him made her shiver. It gave her a horrible feeling. The last kit was fiery orange, with a white underbelly, chest, and paws. Collie nudged him away from her two perfect kits. Surely this.. this thing wasn't hers! It didn't look anything like her or her mate. The world outside of the den seemed to split, thunder roaring so loudly, it popped Collie's ears. Lightning flashed outside as rain pelted down from the night sky. That was its name. Thunder. This kit wasn't a creature. It was a force of nature. And it wasn't hers. Thunder gave a small wail, it's stomach rumbling loudly matching the booming sounds outside. Collie ignored it and proceeded to feed her she-kits. What were their names to be? Collie stared at her first-born. Holly. She gave a satisfied nod. Illusion would love it. Then she glanced at the clone of her happily suckling next to Holly. Her name would be... Thorn. If she was anything like Collie, which she had to be, the name would be perfect. After Holly and Thorn had fallen asleep -and Thunder had stopped crying- she nudged it toward her stomach, letting it eat. Yes. Thunder was an it. He wasn't anything related to herself. He never would be. Thunder would be some flea-pelted rat she had found of the streets. How proud her mate would be of their two children.
