Since we're talking about Breezepelt's family, I figured I'd put my ten cents and say my opinion on Nightcloud. Here's my honest opinion: I do not like her or feel sorry for her, even though the situation wasn't entirely her fault.
I never liked Crowfeather's parenting. I do like Crowfeather as a character, and his personality, but I never liked the way how he treated Breezepelt. He should have been a better father, but I do believe that he cares for his son. I also believe that Nightcloud cares for Breezepelt as well. This is proven in The Sight just before the game ends:
Both parents definitely cared about Breezepelt. They both saved his life. But do I agree that they're both good parents now? No. Nightcloud has shown signs of possessiveness and anger toward Crowfeather. While the anger against Crowfeather is definitely understandable, being possessive during a relationship is not healthy. An example of possession would be when Nightcloud dug in her claws into Crowfeather's back and dragged him away from Leafpool:
Now, I do not have the book, but I believe it was stated in Cats of the Clans that Nightcloud is shown to be short-tempered and possessive. Now, there is nothing wrong with being short-tempered, but Nightcloud never really controlled her emotions around Breezepelt toward his father or Leafpool. Again, the situation is understandable, but as a mother, you should give good examples of parenting to your children. I do not remember Nightcloud doing this job as a mother to Breezepelt except in The Sight.
Really, if both parents just talked everything out, things might not have ended off the way they did. I do not understand why people blame Crowfeather entirely. No, not everything is his fault. Nightcloud is also no better as a mother because she's been shown to be possessive and angry around Crowfeather, which makes Breezepelt think that this behavior around everyone is okay.
But I also understand why Nightcloud is angry with Crowfeather. He doesn't truly love her, even though they're mates. Crowfeather obviously still loves Leafpool, and Crowfeather also doesn't love Breezepelt as much as a father should love his son. But that doesn't mean he doesn't care about Breezepelt.
Do I agree that Crowfeather should have been a better father? Of course! Breezepelt should have had a better father-figure in his life to give him enough attention that he needed. Crowfeather should have been more proud of his son. Do I think that Crowfeather was abusive? Yes. Crowfeather didn't show a lot of pride for his son when he truly deserved it, clawed him away from Leafpool, and ignored him often. However, there were times when Crowfeather did care for his son, like when he saved his life during the journey to the mountains with Leafpool's kits. Crowfeather isn't heartless. And in the end, Crowfeather even agreed himself that he understands why Nightcloud was angry with him. But he's right: Breezepelt made his own choices, and it's too late to change anything now.
I think both parents really should have just broken up a lot earlier. I can't support either parent because both were not good to Breezepelt, but in the end, Breezepelt made his own choices and he chose to betray his Clan. That wasn't Crowfeather's or Nightcloud's fault, but his own.
I really think that things would have been better off if they just never had a son together. Nightcloud could have simply had kits with someone else. It's not like it hasn't happened before, and you don't have to have a mate in order to have kits. Plenty of cats mate when it's the season even though they're not together.
Crowfeather could have just proven his loyalty in another way, and Nightcloud should have had kits with someone else. I do not feel sympathy for either parent but I do not blame one of them for the whole situation. They both should have been better parents for Breezepelt. Because of the way how they both behave around each other, in front of their son, Breezepelt has grown up with their behavior, thinking that it was okay and grew to be an aggressive, short-tempered traitor himself.

"What's going on?" Crowfeather's shocked cry sounded behind him.
Without stopping Jaypaw screeched at the WindClan warrior, "The den collapsed. Lionpaw and Breezepaw fell in!"
Crowfeather was at his side in an instant, sending soil flying in desperation to save his son.
Claws scrabbled up the boulders behind them. "Crowfeather?" Heatherpaw's mew sounded breathless.
"Breezepaw's still buried!" Crowfeather panted.
"Breezepaw?" Nightcloud's horrified gasp sounded close by. The WindClan she-cat must have leaped up the boulders with Heatherpaw. She pressed in beside Jaypaw and began digging. "Oh, my precious kit!"
Then Jaypaw felt another movement in the earth beneath his claws. "I can feel him!"
Crowfeather burrowed his paws toward Jaypaw's and lunged down. A growl of effort rose in his throat as he heaved his son out from the suffocating earth. - The Sight, pg. 352-353

"Get away from her!" Nightcloud had crossed the ditch. She sank her claws into Crowfeather's pelt and dragged him away from Leafpool. - Night Whispers, pg. 203
