Let's hope this shows up. I'm taking these directly from my other social site. My group camped on the western rim of this structure (that you see in the picture) called the Solitario inside of Fresno Canyon. (You have to have four wheel drive to get here and back). The Solitario is what is left over after a Lacolith (a giant magma intrusion pushing through the crust from the mantle of the earth) erupted and threw back these giant plates (what you see in the picture are what are called "Flat Irons" and they are made completely out of limestone) and underwent more stress and folding from nearby mountain building and volcanic events. (There is a caldera in the middle of it but you have to go inside the Solitario to see it all; we could only see the flat irons and some folded beds above it) Basically draw lines from the edges of the flat irons and make a dome with your hands. That's where the top of the dome of the lacolith used to be. It's massive. This is awesome. Makes me wish I were 40 years younger and in your class. . .

and your mention of all the geology terms makes me realize how much little stuff like different types of intrusions etc I have forgotten!

EEEK SO EXCITING!! Old stuff is cool though! :'P And yeah that sounds right. I'm petty sure it's mafic. Felsic lava is more exlosive. (Like Mt. Saint Helens). I'm currently working out the geography and geology of the Clans of the Valley World. I think the entire continent itself is going to be very large ( a supercontinent much like Pangea was ) Old stuff is pretty cool. One day I must travel around and see all our old stuff.
Ah, yes. I remember now. I always got the terms confused XD Felsic eruptions are pretty cool... as long as they happen far away from people.
Ooh, interesting. A supercontinent would lead to some interesting weather patterns, so that would be really cool!

Here is the working map for the Clans of the Valley/Fate of Fire Universe. (': The Wanderer will be exploring a lot of this continent.

Looking fantastic so far, Shadow! I like how you have so many terrains.
Question - how much of this world are the Valley Clans aware of? Or do they not think much exists outside of the valley.

Thanks, Dingo! :'3
The Valley Clans are not aware of the rest of the continent at all. They only know up to the edge of the mountains to the north and east, Beast's Breath to the south-west and Raven's pass to the south. They don't even know what an ocean is.

Hm, I guess I can drop some fun facts about the Fate of Fire Universe.
The reason the southern most peninsula is called the "Indigo" Peninsula is because it is dominated by volcanic activity (it's slow mafic flows much like the ones in Hawaii. There is a hot spot located under this part of the continent which is why you have that island chain going off to the south east) and the lava that is coming out of the ground is actually indigo in color instead of orange or yellow! This is thanks to a different chemical composition in the rocks just beneath the surface. (There is a place on our planet where we have purple lava as well!!)
The Islands are called the Indigo Islands for the same reason. :'D

I always find ‘isolationist’ cultures super interesting to read about, because their cultural development differs so vastly from the world they’re separated from.
On the subject of digital maps, I found an awesome tutorial a white back. I’ll see if I can find it again, and I’ll link you to it!

Pssst. Shadow. What are courtship rituals in the Valley like? I need to know. For science.

Courtship rituals? Hmmm. I haven't quite explored that, but I can tell you about the bonding ceremony (instead of wife or companion or mate you have a bonded) which is basically a wedding in the Fate of Fire World.
I imagine it being slightly different for each clan and group. A bonding ceremony/celebration between un-pledged is usually filled with friends and family only. They are smaller and more intimate. A bonding ceremony between two clan warriors however is a giant party. The entire clan will celebrate: food, drink and gifts galore. The more well-known/prestigious the warriors the more lavish the celebration will be.
The un-pledged will dress how you would expect; dresses for the ladies with flowers woven into their hair while the gentlemen might sport a CLEAN shirt with flowers in their hair and a sword at the waist (something that shows their unique trade or skills, women can do this too but its not common for an un-pledged woman to wield weapons (most carry simple daggers for protection; whatever they can afford)).
As for the warriors, they will usually dress in their "warrior garb". Not something overly heavy (who would want to go to their "wedding" wearing a suit of iron armor?) Something breathable! Their clothing will be much more ornate than their typical fighting clothes. Think leather and soft, shiny copper plating with beads or metal trinkets.
As for the ceremony itself it stays the same. Vows are made (I am still tweaking with the wording but it's different from typical wedding vows. It's more focused on honesty, fate and more "having each others backs" than "cherishing each other for as long as they both shall live", ect. A red ribbon/string will be tied around each person's wrist and hand of choice and they will do the "first dance" as bonded.
It starts with them holding the ends of the string and then as they dance they are supposed to "tangle" themselves together with the string/ribbon until their hands are joined and they are facing each other. The dance can be unique to each couple.
(One particular couple does a "battle dance". :'3)
I hope this helps with your...research. :'P

They are! It's much more of a party/celebration than a serious/solemn ceremony. (:

There MIGHT be one in a Tale of Snow? I can't quite remember if anyone gets married within that time frame or not. Snow's life doesn't really involve love stories, lol.

I think time passes strangely when you’re older than ten. I’ve been telling people my brother is Twelve for the past four years. He’s 16.
So, you got any birthday plans?
