I never liked Shadowhunter till she complained about Cloudspots choice of mate... Then I just simply started to dislike her. She doesn't seem to believe in Shadowface, nor has she been willing to fill out any information for a good while. Even when she was introduced she gave out little information. As for her involvement with the Curse, Lionshadow mentioned that she didn't seem to care about his dead son. (Linking to why all dead toms must go... Which reminds me: KIlL MY LITTLE TEMPESTKIT, AND I WILL BE VERY ANGRY WITH YOU, SHADOW. You have two she-kits to slaughter anyone, kill them.) Anyway, she's a poor advisor that hides information and berates her current chance at success and Shadowface's lineage. I do not like her.

While I loathe him still... Lionshadow is a cunning villain and he challenges Shadowface at every turn. However I would be lying if I said his motives seem to be very skewed now. Why punish someone's kin, when said cat who deserves to be punished (Shadowhunter,) seems to not even care anymore about her current descendent? I understand this goal but at the same time, it simply isn't working anymore, in terms of actually upsetting Shadowhunter. He is also lacking in his own judgement judging by his loss of control and slipping into a more... subdued state. Other than that recent form of development, he's a cat who seeks revenge and does not care for the lives of the she-cats under his curse or their family members. They're merely pawns in his long, over-arching game... That brings up a question, is he looking for endless suffering or, does Lionshadow have another goal in mind?

Also I'm rather curious to see what people, well Mint, in my case, says/thinks about my villains... You've given me an idea, Shadow.

Hm. Two very different feelings about Lionshadow. And one mostly negative quality(s) about Shadowhunter. What bothers me is I can't explain because it's spoilers!! >.<

Well, since you two are awesome for humoring me first, I'll give up a little bit of my rough draft for Chapter 32. It's just dialogue, but I think it might help understand a bit more on the situation. (?) No promises. This is Ashpaw, Shadowface, and Nightfang having a conversation.
“Shadowface…exactly how long has Lionshadow been dead?”
“Um…I know it was before Jadestar’s time. Jadestar, the famous MountainClan leader.”
“That’s…that’s unprecedented.”
“How so?”
“A spirit roaming the living realm for that long…he wouldn’t even be himself anymore. Most likely he has gone mad. Psychotic even. At some point he wouldn’t even be able to hide his actions from non-cursed cats. He would be a ghost haunting any and all who cross his path.”
“He does seem…unhinged.”
“Have you ever seen him hang around a certain place or an object?”
“No…not that I have seen.”
“Yet, he’s always nearby. It must be instinct by now. When you remove the soul from the spirit by force, you will have an equal force try to bring them back together. He is drawn to you because you hold a vital piece of him.”
“Is there any way I can give it back?”
“No. It’s been too long. His soul; his curse, has become yours. Trying to give it back would kill you and only make him more restless and dangerous.”
“I don’t need that…”
“No. You don’t.”
“Why are his eyes still green then? If he doesn’t have his curse anymore, he shouldn’t have the eyes nor the flame, right?”
“I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he has been collecting your ancestor’s souls as they die, so that slowly he can regain that part of him back.”
“Would that have worked?”
“Early on, possibly. But after a certain point…it would just make his predicament worse. It would be like having another you, but only dead.”
“So he suffers…and then makes us suffer…only to make himself suffer more…”
“It’s a vicious and very pointless cycle, but for a spirit that old, it’s all he can do to feel whole.”
“Sounds like you two have some things in common, Shadowface.”
“How so?”
“Oh please, any cursed can see it. You are an artificial hybrid. You are broken in half. Two sides split constantly fighting for control.”
“She does have a point.”
“But the difference is I don’t kill innocent cats to make myself feel better.”
“But you would kill cats. Maybe not innocents, but cats you think deserve to die by your claws.”
“Isn’t that how he sees it though? Cats he believes deserve to be removed from this world?”
“Yes…you’ve never explained that. Why does he want to bring so much down upon your family? Why kill so many just so the one daughter can live to see it and then die after giving birth to a new victim?”
“And why do it for so long? Surely a tormented spirit such as him would want peace and a way to move on, not make himself into more of a ghost.”
“I…I don’t know.”
“How can you not know? You’ve lived your whole life with him, right? He’s always been there, and you’ve said you have talked to him.”
“Yes, I have spoken with him, but you must understand…he is…lost.”
“Lost? Are you feeling sympathy for him now?”
“He is mad, as Ashpaw has said, but he still has moments of clarity. He’s stated more than once that Shadowhunter is the enemy. Not him.”
“Well, there’s your answer. She did something to make him take this war path.”
“It can’t be that simple, Nightfang. Think about it. Shadowhunter has shown little care or hope toward her descendants. She’s practically given up. So this is no longer about making Shadowhunter suffer.”
“Then…is he just going through the motions? Or…”
“Or, Shadowhunter is in fact suffering more than she lets on. You yourself have said that she is cold and distant. She’s seen this happen over and over and over again. Don’t you think you too would just…give up?”
“No. I would never give up on my family.”
“Ha. Well, you are a rare one, Shadowface. Most cats would fight only for themselves.”

Giving up so easily after countless deaths should make you stronger not weaker, Shadowhunter... I understand it, but it does not move my former opinion. I bet Lightfeather's death pleased the Alt Shadowhunter...
As for Lionshadow, I expected as much... Except is he now simply trying to recollect the pieces?

So, first off, I want to hear theories for what you all think happened to cause this great rift between the two. (And how the curse got started).
I feel like kittens were definitely involved here. We know that Shadowhunter was with Foster, who was Jadestar's father. I think the Shadowhunter started 'dating' Lionshadow while she was still with Foxstar, and at some point Lion found out. I can almost imagine Shadow telling Lion the kits were his, only for Lion to find out that they were really Fox's kits. A stupid theory, but thats really the first thing that comes to mind XD
Secondly, I want to know your general thoughts on the two as characters. Are they good/bad characters? Do you feel they lack in some areas, or do they provide and help drive the story forwards? And of course, do you enjoy them as the "bad guy" and the "adviser". (Or do you think their roles are blurred?)
On Shadowhunter: I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Shadow in the sense that I love to hate her. Her actions frustrate me, but at the same time I feel like that sense of frustration really brings something to the story, so I don't really mind. Her motives actually intrigue me - why is she so defeated, when the rest of them are so defiant? The only thing that matters to her is Jadefox - breaking the curse doesn't even come close. It's almost obsessive, and it's mystifying. Really, I'm looking forward to learning more about her past and her relationship with her daughter, since Jade clearly doesn't feel the same way. I do feel though that, compared to some of the other characters, her personality is quite flat, so id like to see a little more of her personality shining through in the human edition, unless the mysterious-ness is part of the story, in which I think its an effective plot device c: While I enjoy her as a character, I don't really feel like she fits the 'advisor' bill, since she's done very little actual advising. To me, Darkmoon is more suited to that role, or one of shadow face's more immediate ancestors (Falconwing also comes to mind, but not as much as Dark)
I'll do the rest later

I bet Lightfeather's death pleased the Alt Shadowhunter... As for Lionshadow, I expected as much... Except is he now simply trying to recollect the pieces? Think of it as weathering. What happens to a rock when you add wind and water for many years? It slowly changes and becomes weaker/unable to hold itself in place. (Hey I can answer this sense it's not spoilers! THANK YOU LIGHTFEATHER) Shadowhunter got excited when Lightfeather got to the point of fighting Lionshadow. It was a tense and close battle, but in the end (as we know) Lightfeather lost. Shadowhunter grieved harder than the other deaths (besides her own daughter Jadestar) due to how close she was to freedom. In the CotV world, it is not natural for a soul and spirit to be apart. Think of the spirit as the glue between soul and body, and when the body leaves, the spirit is supposed to leave with the soul as the kind of "escort" to the afterlife. So when an anomaly, such as Lionshadow, is left alone with just his spirit (essentially the shell of who he is) it's gonna act in more basic terms (revert to its needs rather than its wants). He isn't recollecting the pieces. That's not his goal. It's simply what his spirit is trying to do so it can move on to the afterlife.

Just an update guys: I am currently getting ready for finals so I won't be here for a while. Hopefully when May rolls around I can be active again. I am still planning things out and working on the series as a whole, but there won't be updates till may.
