Oh my gosh, I'm so happy. ;-; I was a wheee bit nervous because of how different I wrote this out. Lot's of POV switches and then a tense change at the end. o3o It gets a little disorienting if you're not paying attention.
BY THE WAY THE CURSE QUIZ HAS JUST BEEN POSTED ON A SEPARATE THREAD. SPREAD THE WORD!!

Aw yes! Time to go and take the quiz! It was an awesome chapter, really. I didn't mind the p.o.v switching - it made the two perspectives seem like they were happening st the exact same time, which I guess was the effect you were going for XD And as for the tense switch - it made it seem like Shadowface was finishing up the story told in the very, very first part of chapter one. It was kind of this huge realisation moment, like 'oooh, I get it now!' This chapter was really well written. The suspense was excellent, and it was really emotional (NO NO NO NOT HER!). I still maintain that Mintfeather knew a lot more about the Curses than she let on - she knew exactly how to treat Shadowface, after all... Some more thoughts, because I don't want to spoil anything; Thoughts;;
* Eaglecurse and Eaglefrost used to be the same person. After Shadowface changed their fate, they deviated from the set timeline and so Eaglefrost became an entirely seperate person with his own fate and path. * Shadowface has been changing fate for a long time. She changed Eaglefrost's fate, and Blackhearts, as her sister lived when she should have died after contracting Ember Fever. The yellow curse, rebellion, is still powerful enough to influence her. The fact that the green curse is dominant means that she cannot access this curse, but it seems to assert itself under extreme stress. * The rebellion curse may also be what kept Darkestday and Nighthawk alive for so long - they were unconsciously rebelling against their fates.
* Ok, the idea of alternate timelines. We know that Shadowface has existed in two seperate time periods - the one we are reading, and the one in which she was Shadowhunter's daughter - remember the conversation about the right name, the right marking but the wrong parents? My understanding is that Shadowface is the right one to break the Curse, but is stuck in the wrong section of the timeline. There's a theory in quantum physics that time is cyclical, and all things are happening simultaneously, but we can only perceive time as a straight line. That is what the Cursed timeline reminds me of.
- Lionshadows presence in the world of the living ensures that time continues to run in a circle. - Shadowface's birth has caused the timeline to split. - Shadowface and Lightfeather act out their timelines simultaneously, in two seperate versions of the Cursed world. - We know that two curses are inside Shadowface. In theory, the green curse is dominant in Shadowface, while her counterpart, Lightfeather, has the yellow curse as her dominant one, causing the variations in their respective times. - All things happen simultaneously, but in slightly different ways. - Basically, I see Lightfeather as 'what would have happened if Maskstar fathered Shadowface instead of Wanderer'.
That's just how I see it, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong XD

Yes, I was going for that, and also trying to have both of their discoveries mirror each other and flow together, like two halves of the same coin. Same coin, but different sides. Awesome! I'm glad you caught that, because that's basically how Curse is supposed to be told. Shadowface telling a story, but the story catching up to where she is at her "crossroads" which is, in a way, the turning point for this entire novel. I wanted Minfeather to go through a "evolution" throughout the novel. (Moving this into spoilers) This last scene that she was in is supposed to sum up the peak of her "perfect evolution" with the ultimate sacrifice and a really, really BOSS death. Like, who doesn't scream when they get lit on fire? Not to mention to keep WORKING while your slowly dying. It's like...you can't show a better death than that. She turned to ashes to keep her sister alive. That's love. <3 As for your musings: You are correct. While one curse is dominant, that doesn't mean the other still can't DO things. It's not just sitting there, it's constantly fighting for control over Shadowface's body. It's impressive that it has lasted this long, which goes to show how strong it must have been before the green eyed curse was introduced. BUT, there are a few things you are slightly overthinking, but I won't go into detail because SPOILERS. o3o' Great observations there, Dingo. I'm very impressed.

Well, you've done an excellent job!!!! The duality in this chapter is truly amazing. The relationship between Shadow and Eagle is my favourite in the whole story - not always friends, but always there for each other. We're all so invested in the story that it's really nice to see it round itself out. It's so badass. Mintfeather is an awesome character. The love she had for Shadowface is so strong that nothing, not even the Curse of Pain, can destroy it.
You know, I never really considered Mintfeather as a 'strong' character before this - not in the way that Darkmoon and Shadowface are - but now I've realised that she may have just been the strongest of them all. And yeah, I do have a tendency to overthink. You should rea day history essays O.o One of my favourite parts of Curse is figuring out what each chapter reveals and how it fits in to what we already know. It's a lot of fun!

Thank you, Dingo. ^^' I honestly feel like Eagele's and Shadow's relationship has become the back bone of this story even though I never intended it to be. It's something that is always re-visited, no matter what is going on in the plot. Also, it seems the readers enjoy them a lot, so it helps balance out the "heavy" topics. A story can only be so depressing, you know? x'D It's a huge relief for me to see it starting to come full circle. I swear for these few years I've felt like the crazy doomsday person screaming: IT'S COMING! GET PREPARED NOW! That was my goal with Mintfeather. Have her kind of "rise in the ranks" to be able to stand alongside characters like her sister Shadowface and Darkmoon. It makes me really happy (and sad) to see her accomplish that. She has proven her worth ten times over.
I was actually debating whether or not to throw in the actual death scene in detail, but whenever I thought about it it felt too gruesome and cruel. I wanted her to be remembered better. Lol, no worries, I am the same. xD I'm glad! I want it to be a puzzle. Those are my favorite kinds of stories.

A story is only as good as the characters in it, you know. Their relationship is truly incredible, and it really is a nice thing to come back to. Even when they are at each other's throats, it's always intriguing to see how they band together and overcome things. I love them together. I started off shipping them, but now I see them as the dynamic friendship duo. Shadowface is a strong independent women who don't need no man. I'm sorry Rushstorm XD Mintfeather the Martyr has a nice ring to it XD
The epicness of her death scene is well deserved. Looking back, I see her very much as the rock that the others stand on. She's so level headed. I once lost marks for going ten minutes overtime in a history speech I put that much detail into it XD

I once lost marks for going ten minutes overtime in a history speech I put that much detail into it XD That is very true. Speaking of, I'm reading Jackalstep's "The Fox and the Pigeon", and OMG I am in love with the characters, especially Pigeonfur because I can relate to her way too well. x'D You should check it out if you haven't already. It's a fun read so far. Good. I want them to be seen as a partnering duo instead of a love pairing. A solid friendship should be formed before any inkling of romance goes on (for the most part). They compliment each other but still rub each other the wrong way. :'P Mintfeather went through big changes. She was the one enthralled with love stories as a kit then became the one to challenge Shadowface on her curse and then go on to save her life. It's like a longer, more drawn out evolution of Ospreyflight if Ospreyflight had lived longer. Oh my gosh! LOL that sounds so much like you.

Mosspool - Lol x'D Yeah, it was hard to kill her off, but once again her death serves a purpose. Two purposes really: saving Shadowface's life, and pushing Shadowface to her critical point. Yay! I'm glad ^^" I'm hoping to do better on the next chapter, especially now that the tense is present instead of past. It should make the story feel more immediate and dramatic.

Post by Mosspool on Mar 22, 2017 13:21:40 GMT -5
Yeah I totally get that! In my opinion that's what makes her death so sad. I've read some books where characters are just randomly killed for no particular reason, so I'm glad she died for a purpose. That'll be so exciting! I love reading present tense though I rarely write in it.

It's super weird to go from past to present. It took me a few tries with that last scene to make sure I didn't switch back over. o3o

I'll add it to my list of holiday readings! They're awesome together. Haha, yes, totally. Almost like siblings XD She's an awesome character. She has come so far from the early chapters - her maturity astounds me. I think I have to draw Mintfeather fan art, since there's none of that yet XD Yep XD Said speech was on JFK and conspiracy theories. I think I enjoyed it a little too much.

phantomstar57 - I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say! I didn't have time tonight but sure is exciting to know its waiting for me! Well, I went over and read it. Had more time than thought! Fascinating chapter-and I eagerly await more. Saw one misuse of you're in reference to Shadowface's curse-should have been your, and in one sentence no ' in Gaurdians. I'd have to go back to grab the exact sentences but my old eyes are falling out! If I can toorrow I'll find them. But love the characters and the magial elements involved! 5 star read!
