Well, I'm glad you liked my theories. I suppose you could say that I'm honoured that you're honoured... In light of the above revelations...
1. Who know there are several cats that should be dead - Darkestday, Blackheart and Mintfeather - and one that outlived her welcome, so to say - Nighthawk. It stands to reason someone is protecting them, presumably Eaglecurse. We know that each generation of the Cursed has a set protector - "Thank you for being my guardian" - Cloudspots to Maskstar - so the next logical step is to assume that Eaglecurse was bullied into healing Blackheart by Ospreyflight. That accounts for Blackhearts survival, and from that theory, it can be inferred that both Nighthawk, Darkestday and Mintfeather have someone watching out for them, but it could not be a Cursed she-cat, as they are in Purgatory. We also know, if I interpret the prologue correctly, Eaglecurse was supposed to break the curse way back when it started. We also know that Shadowhunter thought he was dead until Lionshadow revealed him. It is possible he is still trying to fulfil his role - Shadowface has the 'right name and the right marking'. Perhaps the circumstances of her birth allow him to influence the living world more strongly.
2. Itzala shows the physical effects of both Curses, while Shadowface does not. Going by Falconwing's words, perhaps Shadowface was meant to be affected by the yellow curse, but it's effects were smothered by the awakening of the green curse.
I suppose it is always possible Nighthawk worked a ritual to prevent the effects of the curse on Darkestday, and to possibly transfer it to someone else.
3. Darkestday's eyes are hereditary. We know it was passed on to Spottedmoon, and possibly to Snow. If the Curse gene lay dormant until triggered, perhaps whoever fathered Snow provided the genes to 'activate' the Curse, although this would not explain Darkestday's prolonged life. Perhaps the silver eyes mark him as exempt from the effects of the Curse by counteracting it somehow, but a greater power was awoken within Snow through the correct accumulation of genetic material. This somehow gives her the ability to manipulate not only one, but seven - no, six curses. Either she has no idea Darkmoon exists, or Darkmoon is immune to her powers.
Further thoughts -
- the linage of the different curses still remains ambiguous. Shadowface's curse is unnatural and effects a single line of she-cats.
Darkmoon's curse is critically endangered. Prior to her (temporary?) cursing of Tempestkit - yet another cat related to Shadowface to cheat death - she was the only of her kind.
The orange and electric blue curses seem to be doing ok.
The yellow curse seems to be extinct, yet yellow flames have manifested in several occasions. It can also be inferred that this curse should have been Shadowface's. Perhaps this curse lay dormant, carried along Shadowface's line (perhaps co-existing with the green curse) until it too was activated by the correct genes. Shadowface's parentage is obviously important. As far as we know, she is the only she-cat effected by the green curse who has one parent born outside the valley.

interesting theories! This is such a fun thing to participate in, Shadz, because we get to see everything unfold slowly, see the planning and love that you put into every little detail, and that's something that not everyone gets to see with authors. It makes everything much more understandable, especially with how we can see you working through each step of Curse. Seeing that makes me have a new appreciation for everything that gets written. And having other people to toss around theories with, and you to hint things at us makes this a whole new experience for us as well, cause we have the creator of the story right there in front of us able to answer our questions, or hint at things happening later on, which makes everything so brilliant!

OK, CURSE THEORY TIME Ok, I'm going to put this under a spoiler tag for the people who haven't read the whole thing yet. I don't think there are any spoilers, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Ok, so, lately I've been thinking a lot about Darkestday, and I've been trying to work out why he is still alive. By the rules of the curse, he should have been targeted specifically as both Cloudspots' brother and Nighthawk's son. According to the rules, he should be dead.
So somehow, Darkestday defied Curse logic. Then I started thinking about his eyes. He is unique as the Cursed cats, and as far as we know, his eyes have been silver since birth, unlike the Green Eyes, which appear around four moons or so. I'm convinced his eye colour has something to do with why he is still alive.
Then it hit me - Darkestday had grey/silver eyes, as if the colour had been leeched from his eyes. That made me think of the short story where Itzala absorbs her brothers curse and breaks the rules that are in place.
What if, by some genetic marvel - we already know that Shadowface has the right name and the right marking (but the wrong parentage) to break the curse - the part of the Curse that was supposed to affect Darkestday was somehow absorbed by someone else - Cloudspots, Nighthawk, Wanderer, etc - and given to Shadowface, much how Itzala absorbs Striker's curse in the prequel.
It may seem far-fetched, but on occasion, Shadowface has been known to produce yellow flames which seem to counteract the effects of the green curse. So, Shadowface, somehow, contains two curses, just like Itzala did. We know she had to get the yellow curse from somewhere, the same way Itzala did.
I'm sure there's also a prequel/one-shot somewhere where the last of the yellow-eyes Cursed is killed, so what if the gene that codes for the yellow curse then lay dormant within the Cursed bloodline until it was re-activated.
In short - Darkestday is still alive because Shadowface has somehow absorbed or counteracted the part of the curse that should have targeted him, allowing for her to contain two curses instead of one, like her (presumed?) ancestor Itzala.
We know time is cyclical in the Cursed world, with the same events reoccurring throughout different generations, so in theory it is possible, although unlikely. |

It's pretty hellish today. I have not one close friend who isn't LGBT+, or POC. We're all terrified. My teacher broke down in tears, the one who always omits strength and willingness to take on challenges. He cried about not being able to protect those he loves and wants to help. And I didn't cry, but I held those around me who did. It's not going to be a fun few years. Oh, Razz. *hugs* I wish I could say something to cheer you and your classmates/friends up. But I don't know what the future will hold. Know that people will stand by you and try not to feel bad, we don't know what will happen yet. <3 |

Don't worry. It's not as bad as i appears. This old one was happy with the results-its was out Brexit, our way of saying enough with the corruption andineptitude on so many levels in Government
I've seen many elections and changes over the decades and in some cases people are overreacting. Protesting is fine as long as its peaceful. In this election no matter who won half the country was going to e upset, as I was in 2008, because I did not believe in that candidate's policy and platfrom.
I lived in the 60s when riots and protests were over the Vietnam war and civil rights issues. I was a kid then and it was scary, so I do understand.
Things will calm down as they always do, and in the long run, I believe this is a GOOD change for our country, which needed a bit of a shakedown to expose the rats eating the foundation from under us.

And I didn't cry, but I held those around me who did. It's not going to be a fun few years.
Before I made my choice I researched all the candidates, not listening to the hysteria swirling across the airwaves. He was pictured as someone who is homophobic etc but this is not so. Trust me, things will be ok. He is NOT anitgay or anti-LGBT, or racist. In fact its the opposite-he's done so much good with his own money helping people that the media never mentions.
During this hellish campaign the media ignored all that painting him as a monster. I learned it is not so. He isn't perfect, but under that brash exterior is a good-hearted person who will do his best.
Though it may not seem like it now, it will, in the long run, be good for the country, if what I saw past the media hype and hysteria proves true. Don't despair. |
