It was too cliche and obvious for Hawkwing to be mates with her. He should've just forgiven her and become regular friends.
It was neither of their faults, but it's sorta twisted to mate with someone you saved that caused your brother to die. I don't think Duskpaw will look very happy by looking down on both of them dozing off together especially when Hawkwing saved her rather than him.
I know, neither of their faults. But, the relationship is too generic and doesn't fit together.
But, then again. Berrynose mated her dead mate's sister, sooo I can't say this is uncommon.

No offense but I have to disagree. Yes, it was very predictable, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't mind their relationship, I think they're pretty cute. Even though I thought it was gonna be Bellaleaf. Oh well. Besides, I don't think Duskpaw is the kind of cat to feel that way, I believe he doesn't blame Hawkwing and that he is happy for him.

Well, predictable plots tend to be a bit boring. And wild animals work differently than humans do, so I can't say they're wrong. I know Duskpaw won't feel bad about it, but having your kin die by the mistake of rescuing the wrong person might bring some trauma, right?

The only one who caused Duskpaw to die, was Duskpaw himself. He was the one who chose to go to the twoleg campsite. Not to mention Hawkwing would not have been able to save Duskpaw anyways. He was literally pinned to the ground, and if Hawkwing hadn't saved Pebbleshine, she would've died along with Duskpaw.
There was no saving Duskpaw in time, and Hawkwing made the right choice in saving Pebbleshine--since she was the only one he could have actually saved. I honestly don't think, given Duskpaw's personality, that he would be bitter about his brother moving on and being happy. He doesn't strike as the type to hold grudges or be bitter about things like that.
While it is cliche, I don't think it's wrong for them to have become mates. And I'm certain Duskpaw isn't bitter because of it either.

I still think he should've just forgiven himself and her, and moved on. I don't think being mates really match together. If I were him, I wouldn't have gone too hyperactive with Pebbleshine, so I don't grow to care about her more than him and also to remember his death. Welp, doesn't matter. Just stating this out.

He never forgot about Duskpaw, almost the entire book had him groping over his death--which is understandable.
Why should he have to suffer for his brother's tragic mistake the entirety of his life? That's no way to live--believe me, I've been through this irl. He deserves a chance to be happy, and move on. Moving on doesn't mean to forget. It just means to continue your life, at peace about what happened. Nothing will bring Duskpaw back, and it took almost an entire book for Hawkwing to realize that.
Being mates with Pebbleshine isn't horrible. They were both able to finally move past the horrible accident, and try to be happy and find comfort in each other. And in real life, this does happen more than one would think--especially if the couple had been through the same tragedy.

I think that while this is something that happens a lot in books, I also think it was a realistic outcome. They had been through the same tragedy together, and were finding strength in each other. That dimension that their relationship was given time to properly build up, and not be sudden or unexpected.

Sequel babies
I actually liked them as a couple, even if it was predictable. They reminded me a lot of Fire x Sand.

I don't like that they became mates. I feel it was too cliché, even though it may not have been rushed.
It seems like the Erins already used that story line for FirexSand, BramblexSquirrel, LeafxCrow. One of them (or both) being annoyed at/hating the other, then an event happens to change things between them.
I am glad I guess that he saved her, but that should have been it. Maybe an interaction afterwards, or even some reflecting on what happened, but not romance.

Personally I kinda agree, I feel like Hawk x Plum, or Hawk x Dove would be way more interesting than Hawk x Pebble.

I really don't like hate-then-love couples Yeah, I knew the second they introduced Pebble, they would become mates. It's always those hate/love couples. But, the main reason why I really wished they didn't become mates was because it would probably remind him of the tragedy. Since Hawkwing was furious at her in the beginning. Maybe, it's just because of the dramatic hate in the beginning that made me not want them to become couples, though. Oh well.
