I'm doing the crappiest and most cliché fanfic ever. And I need help.
What could make a queen neglect her kit? Let's say she has three kits - a son and two daughters. What can make her neglect one of them? Not like abuse them or hate them, but just stop caring about them completely. It can't be some disability they or their siblings have, or the death of one of them. This might help - she never really wanted kits, and she never was the loving type. Kind of like Daisytoe, but not exactly Lizardstripe.

Perhaps she never wanted to have kits in the first place and got into an unwanted pregnancy.

Is the one she's neglecting the male kit? Maybe she has a grudge against the father, and because of that hates males. Or he resembles his father the most (this could also work if the kit is female).
She could also neglect the one kit due to personality. Maybe the other two are strong, boisterous kits, and the one is like Ravenpaw--shy, timid, etc. and it annoys her.

Realistically a queen will abandon her kittens if there is something wrong with one of them.

She has an issue with vision so that if something is a certain colour, she can't see it. One of her kits is this colour, so the kit is invisible to her.

Realistically, if a kit is weak or there is something wrong with them, a queen could neglect or even abandon him/her (Rainflower did that to Crookedstar).
Another interesting case would be if one of the kits is part of the prophecy and the mother learns of it. The mother grows jealous or fearful, and neglects her kit out of anger or fear. If it's jealousy, then the mother is angry one kit the special while the others aren't. If it's fear, the mother is afraid what future her kit, and thinks that by not treating him/her as someone special or treating him/her badly, the prophecy won't come true.

One kit may be a little annoying or ugly and she would neglect them because she would be easily ticked off be her unwanted kits. |

well, you said that they were unwanted, right ??
maybe she's feeling upset about being a mother, and the two other ones are timid and don't try to disturb her, but one is fiery and constantly tries to make her act like more of a mother, because she only does the bare essentials, like cleaning them and feeding them. the fiery kit makes her feel sad and angry, and therefore, she tries to stay away from them ?? |
