Any discussion of politics or any anti-American or anti-military statements will be reported for spam. Have some respect.
If you are currently serving, plan to serve, or know somebody close to you who has served, is serving, or is planning to serve, then please mention it! I'll add it to a list that I'm making that will become it's own separate dedication post.
So it's Veteran's Day. Regardless of what you think of the wars in the Middle East, the United States, and our military as a whole, there's no denying the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform make every day. Of course, every service member is important, but today is the day of the American soldier.
Unfortunately a lot of us these days forget how much our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Coast Guardsmen and Marines do for us. Without them, we'd lose our freedom. It is thanks to the soldier, not the politician, that you have the right to express your opinion on all of these political threads. It is thanks to the soldier, not the preacher, that we are able to have a Christian thread on here. It is thanks to the soldier, not the lawmaker, that we are able to openly identify as whatever sexuality we want. It is thanks to the soldier that Americans have the ability to burn the very flag they die for.
It is important that we remember that, not just on this day, but every day.
It is also important to remember this:
You complain about not getting to see your significant other over the weekend. The soldier wonders if they'll ever see their's again.
You stab your friends in the back. The soldier keeps their friends from being shot in the back.
You complain about a mile run during sports practice. The soldier runs with forty pounds of gear in the desert heat, knowing that they'll die if they stop.
You yell at your mother for being unfair. A soldier's child sits knowing they'll never see their's again.
You complain about it being hot outside as you sit in your air conditioned house. The soldier refuses to lift their helmet to wipe the sweat off their brow, fearing what will happen if they do.
You groan about a headache. A soldier lays in their own blood wondering if they'll make it out.
You criticize your government for its poor decisions. They see what life is like without one.
You preach what you see on the news. They know what's real and what's not because they've seen it with their own eyes.
You sit around and waste your time. They know how valuable it is.
You protest your government's decisions. The soldier fights for your right to do so.
You think you're tough with your big words and your bold statements. Tough is a teenaged soldier on the front lines fighting just to keep you free, praying for just one more day from God above.
I'll close with these two videos, because they highlight perfectly the two sides of war- the tough and the sad. I extend the biggest thank you possible to all of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Coast Guardsmen, and Marines for the unimaginable sacrifices they make every day.
