okay so i saw this come up on other threads and i posted something about it but then that thread (i think) was removed and i think this issue is big enough to be talked about, though please keep comments calm and courteous if your opinion differs from mine; i would hate for this to be deleted bc i seriously think it's So Important
anyway
i have seen people who believe that the majority of illegal immigrants (i assume they're referring to those from mexico/central america) are only coming to the us to smuggle drugs into the country.
and i'm going to start out by saying that i know a bit about this because i have seen it with my own eyes. i live in southern california, and am a citizen of a state which shares a fairly large border with mexico.
in my experience, people who come to this country illegally are trying to escape the violence and horrors of their homelands. they're hoping to escape the drugs, and are not seeking to bring them into this country illegally. now, i am not saying that there are not any immigrants who are smuggling drugs. i am just saying that, from what i have seen, the majority of them are victims, themselves, and not drug lords.
so please, please, please try to find some compassion for these people. they have suffered tremendously. they need love. acceptance. support from the world's self-proclaimed "nation of immigrants". please try to find some kindness in your hearts.
after all, they are humans, too. they are of the same species as we are.
and ask yourself, if you were in their shoes, would you not try to save your family? would you not try to find a better life for yourself and your loved ones?
try to see it from their perspective. i implore you. things are not nearly as cut and dry as they seem.

if that thread was locked/removed it probably isn't the best idea to make another one i wouldn't expect for people to keep their comments "calm and courteous" when it comes to differing opinions; on this site, that seems impossible

it was still locked..? plus, i wouldn't be surprised if sarcasm and insults take over once again. i would love to keep debates calm and courteous, but like i said, you can't have an opinion that differs from the majority on here, and voice it, without getting attacked/insulted so

another myth- they dont pay taxes
nah man they dont pay income taxes but they still pay sales and property and excise taxes and they dont even get the rights with it they make up millions and the economy is basically on their backs so if someone wants to deport all of them well you better find another way to help it stand
and i like how drugs become a problem when it comes to minorities.... thes (upper mostly) middle class white kids doing cocaine and and such are still there and feeding the most money into the cartels kiddo

This thread has caused no harm. The other one was taken down and locked for reasons that should be clear; people were insulting each other among other things and it wasn't going to stop. I'd rather you not discuss the other thread (contents of it that would bring up another argument such as the insults.)

Absolutely
We really just need a much easier citizenship process so we don't have to deal with all this, but idk how that's gonna come about

Okay, I wasn't here to whatever thread you guys are talking about. But please refrain from insulting each other. Or this bundle of fun will close too. And the mods don't want that.

just a tip for everyone out there who thinks illegal immigrants are "evil";
1) they make up 5% of our total workforce, and over 50% of our AGRICULTURAL workforce.
2) illegal immigrants pay over 11 BILLION dollars in taxes every year.
3) their crime rate [excluding the obvious crossing illegally] is suprisingly low. 3a) there us no correlation between illegals immigrants and violent crime. 3b) native-born men are actually 2 times more likely to be incarcerated than foreign-born men.
4) illegal immigrants give us an average of a 1% raise in our pay.
5) since they work below the poverty level, companies can also keep the price of food products incredibly low.
the more you know.

most hispanics are just trying to find a better life for themselves and their children, trying to escape communism and corruption i mean it doesn't make it okay for them to come here illegally, but i am always shocked at how callously some ppl will talk about their predicament

quite a few generic google searches and alt. media statistics. it's really not that hard to find. Just did, I'm finding several websites with conflicting information. I'm just curious. generally, the alt-rightist / ultraconservative websites will try to downplay the effect illegal immigrants have on the economy. if you google search something generally, and find two opposing views, try searching more specifically into that subject to find solid sources.

I agree, the issue is how basically every group who runs these research papers and statistics have some kind of outside agenda to fulfill, so finding nothing but hard facts is a pain. I think I found like half of your facts though on different sites, and if I follow a path of sources linked in each one, I find different information, a lack of consistency. I am careful about believing anything anyone says statistically or factually if there's no solid proof behind it. In my opinion, if the general population didn't believe everything they get promised or told, the election could've turned out differently.
