Everyone, I am here to calm your nerves.
You are worried about Trump. That is understandable, as he has said and done some scary things. However, the same can be said for nearly any politician who has ever run for president. Sadly, that's politics. I'm here to tell you, though, that a majority of the things being spread on the internet is lies, and you are being fed through fear tactics and fear mongering breeds ignorance and perpetuates stigmas and chaos.
I'll tackle a few things that you are all worried about.
1) Trump is against LGBT+ people and wants to do conversion therapy.
Incorrect. Trump has only really spoken on the LGBT+ community once, and said blatantly that he supports them, and really didn't say anything further. He does not want to enforce conversion therapy. Anyone who has told you that has lied, because Trump has never even mentioned it. In fact, Trump isn't even concerned with any potential lawmaking about LGBT+ people--he is far more concerned with financial problems and foreign affairs. What you should worry about is Pence, who endorses conversion therapy. Luckily for you, the vice president has literally zero power.
2) We could make things better by impeaching or assassinating Trump.
Incorrect. Firstly, assassination is by far illegal and you all know why. Secondly, impeachment is when a president has committed a criminal offense and is then to be brought to trial. Should the president be declared guilty, they are then out of office. If the president is impeached, found guilty, and out of office, then the vice president takes charge. Remember what I said earlier about Pence? Trump is by far the lesser of two evils, and you do not want Pence in charge of our country.
3) Trump is going to deport everyone who isn't a US Citizen.
Incorrect. Anyone who is a Temporary Resident, a Permanent Resident, or an immigrated and now legal US Citizen is going to be fine. Legally all of those people are legally residing in the US. Who should be worried is illegal aliens. Which they can go through the process to gain residency, and from residency it is a fairly decent process that will allow them to gain citizenship. I encourage you, if you know any illegal aliens, to advise them to become residents and citizens.
4) Trump is racist and sexist.
Correct. However, a lot of what he says and does comes from ignorance. He was taught in his upbringing that it is okay to say and do what he did. The good news is that now he has a whole system of government checks and balances as well as a ton of advisers who can tell him otherwise and can, well, advise him on how to proceed with literally everything. If we want to go into sexism in particular, take a look at the Clinton family. Bill Clinton committed plenty of sexual assault in his day, cheating on Hillary multiple times. Hillary helped him try to cover it up. Make sure you take a look at both sides before accusing one of what another is also guilty of.
5) Trump is going to take over and turn this into the apocalypse.
Incorrect. There is a system of checks and balances for a reason. Trump cannot and will not be able to get 90-95% of things through that he might want to get through. Besides, nothing will change overnight. It's not like the day after he's inaugurated that he's going to be able to turn the country upside-down. It takes a long time for anything to get passed.
6) I'm not going to have healthcare now.
Incorrect. While Trump wants to and likely will overturn Obamacare, people are widely uneducated about what Obamacare actually is. There's a reason it took so long to pass through the Supreme Court--it's a mess. In fact, no law or referendum in our country is allowed to be unreadable, and the "Affordable Care Act" is definitely so complicated that the Supreme Court had troubles understanding what it entails. As well, it is anything but affordable. My family's premium has nearly tripled for this upcoming year, and we can't afford it. However, my mom's friend's sister-in-law just had her husband pass away--he had a very, very good life insurance plan, and now they have over one million dollars to their name. His wife is now set for life with her three kids, and she is going to remain unemployed because she has the money to do so. Now that she is no longer on her husband's health insurance (since he passed), she went to sign up for health insurance and, because she is an unemployed mother of three, she gets free healthcare by law. She's a millionaire, she can afford it. But by law, even though she is a millionaire, she gets free healthcare. Makes you think about the law, doesn't it? So it's likely going to be reformed, and that's probably a good thing in the long run.
7) The Republican party is going to ruin us.
Incorrect. I saw a post on tumblr that mentioned how the last time the Republican party held the presidency, senate, and supreme court was in 1928, and the year following the stock market crashed and we had the Great Depression. The thing is that the government didn't cause the Great Depression--people did. In the 1920s the concept of Credit was established. Credit is the basis and what we use for credit cards and the like today. People did not, at the time, understand that Credit is not free money. Therefore everyone was quite literally putting their purchases on their "tab", thinking Credit was money, and then never paid their debts. This excess spending and unpaid debt is what dragged us into the Great Depression. We are not going to go that direction because of the party holding the government right now.
Essentially there is a lot of wild speculation circulating the internet and a majority of it is highly unlikely or even impossible to happen. People are using fear tactics to put all of you into a widespread panic over this, and that is not the right thing to do. Go do your research and get better educated rather than looking at what very ignorant (and mainly underage) people are saying on platforms like twitter and tumblr.
I hope that this helped you to realize that the spreading fear is illogical and irrational. What we need to do is make sure our educated voices are heard so that we can keep our country going in the right direction. Everything will be okay and four years will be up before you know it. Stay strong, loves. It isn't going to be the end of the world, I promise.
