Apparently being upset and showing anger is a type of mental manipulation

That sounds like bs... Who's telling you that?
Expressing your emotions, especially on something like this, should never be verbally abusive.

My favorite person in the entire world and that's what I thought but apparently not

I have to say - They're wrong. Showing emotion isn't abusive unless you're physically attacking someone verbally or physically.

Just fyi
Verbal abuse includes: Petty insults (stupid, ugly, loser), unproductive accusations ("u looked at that person's face u like them more then me!!!!"), threats (towards victim, themself, others), belittling ("no one else would want u!!"), guilt tripping, "payback" (excusing their actions or doing things just because victim had done "worse"), pressuring victim to do things that make them remarkably uncomfortable, manipulation, possessiveness, excessive jealousy, comparing victim to others in a negative light ("why can't you be more like ____?"), screaming or yelling, wishing misfortune on victim (death wishes, hoping victim gets cancer) and more Everything here would need to be taken to the extreme to actually be abuse tho
And tbh falsely accusing someone of being abusive, as long as its just to make victim feel bad and not genuinely believing their being abused, could be considered manipulation and guilting
